Loved it!

Back to proper Inside No 9.

It was almost like they gave us the first episode just so we'd love up on this one.

Almost like the plot eh...?

Loved how dark this was, with PROPER twists and as a GoT fan it made it even better. Banger of an episode!

Fingaz MC.

So.. turns out that last weeks episode wasn't considered by all to be the triumph that I thought it was, indeed, it split the audience quite a lot. I feel like this weeks is much more likely to universally praised, though for me, whilst great, never quite hit the heights of invention that "Wuthering Heist" did.

Spencer (Steve Pemberton) a TV producer comes home with blood literally and figuratively on his hands having been involved in an altercation with a fan. Simon (Reece Shearsmith) comes to his door and tells him that he has footage of the incident, that the fan has died and that he has taken steps to hide the body. Simon is a fan of "The Ninth Circle" a fantasy epic TV show that Spencer was the producer for, that concluded with a final season that the audience found divisive and underwhelming. With the incriminating evidence as his trump card, Simon forces Spencer to revisit his series and produce a new run, righting his perceived shortcomings of the ending.

Though apparently "Line of Duty" would apparently be a more recent example, the inspiration point for the show is clearly Benioff and Weiss, who have been targeted for vitriolic abuse from the "Game of Thrones" fanbase, since the final season aired. The show does explore the concepts around fan ownership of a property a little bit, particularly when Gavin - a second fan of the series played by Nick Mohammed joins the story. Naturally though, as writers Shearsmith and Pemberton are mostly on the side of the artists, rather than an entitled minority. (He said, posting a review of their show that nobody asked for).

Good as though it was, this episode is familiar territory for the show, shifting balances of power in a dynamic, before a murderous and heavily foreshadowed conclusion. Which is not to say that there are twists and turns along the way - just that I felt this was the usual high standard that I've come to expect, whereas last weeks was (for me) a class above.

A class act, Shearsmith and Pemberton on form.

This was such a clever episode, I wasn't exactly blown away by the series opener, but in my eyes the guys were well and truly back on form with Simon says, this felt like vintage Inside no.9.

Ninth Circle is clearly code for Game of Thrones, they reference the abysmal conclusion.

The show is at its best when it has you scratching your head, and feeling a little uncomfortable about the events unfolding on screen.

Mocks the fan fiction element, I can't help thinking there may have been a reference or two about Dr Who as well, it felt like they were taking the Mick perhaps ...

Lindsay Duncan is definitely one of the best of all, she's someone I've hoped for years would pop up in the show, I'm so glad she did here, and as always she doesn't disappoint, one of the very best.

absolutely breathtaking

This episode was fantastic and a colossal improvement from the 1st entry of this series. Spencer was a horrifically dark character and Simon portrays the obsessive fan in a tremendously realistic way. The episode wasn't that funny, but the tension and suspense throughout made the episode entertaining to watch. The setting was decent with the story using it to full potential. The side characters were a bit forgettable but charming non the less. To conclude, this episode is not perfect, but one of the best episodes of inside no9 since the 12 days of Christine. Watch it NOW!

Relief to see to this fantastic series back on track after last week's mediocre opener to series 6. Darkly multi layered in its exploration of fan obsession with a TV series and how the most ardent are far more invested than the the writers themselves.

Inside "Inside no.9" 's comfort zone

Following last week's pyrotechnic, thrilling (if chaotic) comic outburst, this is a retreat into the safe zone for Inside no.9, a straight-down-the-middle effort. It works, for sure: this plot is from a formula which they have perfected over the years. But for me, playing it safe is not the show's main selling point.

Really enjoyable while being deeply disturbing

Everything from direction, music, to acting. After last weeks pretty mediocre outing I didn't know what to expect from, "Simon Says", but I am pleasantly surprised. Really great episode.

Okay, a bit obvious

Better than episode 1 but just okay. Obvious twists and highly implausible scenario. Also lacked anyone at all to empathise with by the end, so hard to care. Could do with the new contemporary references calming down.

Great episode

Warning: Spoilers
I loved this episode almost as much as i loved the first episode of this series. Episode 1 was a laugh and intelligent writing and this one was dark as usuall but maybe a bit predictable. Offcourse the first fan is going to end up dead and that is your twist no1 and because there is always a twist no 2 the other fan is alive until he also ends up dead. It is the series format. That is why i give the first episode a 10 because it was funny and different and this one a 9. I hope the next episode is going to be a surprise again.

An episode for true fans. It might be aimed at Inside No. 9 obsessives and even holds a mirror to them.

The kind of fans who will vent a spleen especially if they do not like how a series ends. Game Of Thrones, Lost, The Sopranos, Line of Duty. Just read the reviews on IMDB of the finales of these shows from some people who thought it was all underwhelming.

Pemberton and Shearsmith have maybe anticipated the day Inside No.9 will finish and there will be those left disappointed with the final instalment.

Pemberton plays Spencer, an award winning writer of a fantasy epic. A hit television show with a low key ending the divided fandom.

Shearsmith plays Simon, a super fan who has his own podcast and ideas of reviving the show so it can have an ending that it deserves.

When a drunken Spencer gets involved in an altercation with another fan one night. Simon has video footage and leverage over Spencer.

Spencer is forced to dance to Simon's tunes but all is not what it seems.

Of course I could had done this better! It was obvious what Simon's game was. He kept saying he was a master manipulator so the twists were not that surprising.

That's more like it!!!

After last week's disastrous episode I was incredibly worried the new season was going to be absolutely dribble but I was wrong! This episode had so many amazing twists that the ending genuinely shocked me,this episode was obviously a nod to game of thrones season 8 and I found it absolutely hilarious with pemberton's character being a delusional snob like the writers of GoG. The whole concept of the episode was really great along with Spencer's character arc. Great episode guy's hopefully the rest follow along!

The final line was predictable, but that didn't make it any less impactful. After a bad season premiere this was a solid episode here.

Inside No. 9 & Poochie
safenoe23 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Even though I never caught on to The Sopranos and Game of Thrones, this season six episode of Inside No. Gets to the heart of fanatical fandom and the dire consequences of a series finale that deflates the expectations of the fanbase for sure. There are shades of the classic Simpsons episode Itchy, Scratchy and Poochie, which took a swipe against fanatical Simpsons fans who tried to dictate the writing and creative content at the expense of quality.

I can relate in a way because being a fan of the cult comedy classic Parker Lewis Can't Lose, I was bitterly disappointed by the series finale for sure.
