What a joy to see the beginnings of late night television. To see Steve Allen again was wonderful. He charmed audiences in the beginning and set the gold standard for those who followed. Then, there was Jack Paar. He was the nervous, intellectual, petulant genius, who took everything personally. And that's what you get here. We see the delicate balance of getting your message across and the heavy handedness of the networks. But the clips make this worth every minute.

10 stars for content, but...

...why the loud music?? Some faint whispers of background notes can add to the production, but what's even the point of the narration and interviews when the dialogue is drowned out by music? I was enraptured by the history and commentary, but struggled to understand what was being said.
