Loved the Many Nuances

Warning: Spoilers
You could definitely comment on how Drs. Browne, Allen, and Lim aren't OB/GYN specialists and that they were Lea's doctors for the whole episode, sure. But suspend reality for a bit and appreciate some nuances with me -

When Asher is speaking with his patient (I'm so sorry to forget her name), he tells the story of his bubbe dying while he was in med school. His patient says "May her memory be for a blessing," the English translation of a Jewish condolence message. Many may remember this phrase being brought to public attention during the death of Ruth Bader Ginsburg in 2020 in place of the Christianity-based "Rest in Peace".

Many open plotlines were continued in the back-and-forth scene of our ensemble of doctors giving Shaun and Lea advice. Claire's continued trauma from Neil's death, the IVF struggle of Dr. Andrews and his wife Isabel, and Dr. Allen's loss of "Junior". You might think that that's the possibly-aborted baby mentioned in 4.6, but some comedic relief is found in finding out that it's a tortoise. Who ran away. Ran.

Stepping out of the procedure room where Lea is receiving her DNC, Shaun sees Dr. Glassman and almost instantly goes for a hug. Remember that Shaun isn't all that big a fan of hugs, but he initiated one of very few here in his moment of grief.

For all of these tiny moments in the episode, I have to put it high on my list of favorite episodes of the series.

Episode full of emotions!

Captivating plots, with striking scenes!

"Dr. Ted" was by far the most emotional episode of this season, with spectacular performances by all the actors, but mainly by Paige and Freddie. The plot around life and death was very interesting to watch! I hope Shaun and Lea will come back and be happy!

Great episode

It's so good having the show get back to great storylines without pushing the woke PC agenda.

Writers and Producers; please stick to your strengths and keep making episodes like this that appeal to the majority and invoke genuine emotion instead of attempting to appease the minority by instilling guilt. Leave that to Twitter and CNN.

Sadly, another hospital drama series hasn't learned that lesson and have lost me.

Such a great and sad episode
olgairojasprado11 May 2021
I think we all could see it coming, but it was really sad. It just goes according to the show line, which is to show the reality of many couples, but staged in a respectful, emotional and well- performed way. Although very very sad anyway💔

Just stunning acting, as someone who has lost a baby in the past my heart just broke...beautiful acting and understanding of what it is to lose a child.

Excellent Episode

Warning: Spoilers
The episode titled "Dr. Ted" was outstanding! It showcased Shawn and Lea and their struggles with her pregnancy and finally forcing them to make a gut wrenching decision, to choose between a DNC or induced labor!

The other story involved a senior woman and her wish to not be resuscitated in light of her having terminal cancer. The young doctor and the woman, decades apart in age, finding common ground and friendship!

This episode MUST be nominated for an Emmy Award for the awards show airing next year!

I guess they just wanted to give leah a storyline
karenstars11 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
There is no reason to build up this pregnancy so much....put up one obstacle...then another...then another. Fix things add another obstacle and in the end have no baby.

They could have had the baby and just made it a background character if they thought it would diminish the story between Shaun and Leah. Or not add to the show. They didn't have to kill her.

I read in many places people would stop watching the show if they killed the baby. If true and it is happens, they may lose their ratings. I hope it costs them.

In the end it was NOT necessary to end it this way. Maybe they just wanted to give the Leah character a bigger story line, and show her great range as an actress. This was a terrible way to do it.

The B storyline was good. That young resident is a really good actor and a very likable character as a doctor. Even though he disregarded his patients orders and saved her life against her wishes for his own reasons.... which he later realized was a mistake..

now that was a good one
Lythas_8516 May 2021
Lots of emotions and character development.. great storylines and tear jerking moments.. one of the best episodes of the show.. that's the potential of the show when they don't go woke, specially with the females making sexist remarks about men.

The writers made a huge mistake!
joetulgan11 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
SPOILER ALERT:

If you have not watched the episode, stop reading now!

If you did see it, you know what I am talking about: the writers made a big mistake. This was the opportunity to insert a Dr. Murphy-magical-good-doctor moment that we are craving! We haven't had a magical moment all season long.

Perhaps the wonderful actress playing Lea is leaving next season? That is the only sense I can make from this poor decision. Don't get me wrong, this far the writers have been outstanding--but I believe this was a huge mistake!

S4.E16 - Very Emotional Episode [9/10]
panagiotis199324 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
(S4. E16) My Live Reaction / Review for The Good Doctor Season 4 Episode 16 ''Dr. Ted''. The previous episode was good and I gave it a rating of 9/10. Let's see if this one is better or worse. Is that old lady suicidal? That's so sad. There is something wrong with the baby? That's really bad news, I really don't want them to lose the baby, I wanna see Shaun becoming a father. They find a way to fix the problem? That's awesome. More health issues for Lea? That sucks but I don't really enjoy this subplot. So they are going to lose the baby? What?! I feel really bad for the old lady, it sounds like she doesn't have anyone. It really sucks that they lost the baby, im so disappointed. Overall this episode was good and I enjoyed it. My rating is 9/10.

Heart wrenching but didn't need to be
etyke7 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
As a mother of preemie twins this episode was hard to watch and resulted in many tears. But the part that really bugged me the most is that a 22 week gestation baby can survive. This show takes place in a huge city and the NICU in the area would have the capability to care for such a preterm infant. They didn't have to make the decision to terminate which was poor medical depiction of the situation.
