Hollywood actor Christian Oliver, his two young daughters and the pilot died in a plane crash near a Caribbean island, the Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force announced.
Oliver, whose real name was Christian Klepser, was 51. His daughters, Madita Klepser and Annik Klepser, were 12 and 10, respectively. Pilot Robert Sachs also died in the crash, reports Variety.
They were the only passengers aboard the plane. The aircraft was a small, one-engine plane owned and piloted by Sachs. It crashed one nautical mile west of Petit Nevis, a small island in the Grenadines, Thursday afternoon.
As per Variety, the plane left from the J.F. Mitchell Airport in Paget Farm, Bequia, an island in the Grenadines, around 12:11 p.m. bound for St. Lucia as its final destination.
“Moments after taking off, the aircraft experienced difficulties and plummeted into the ocean”, the Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force wrote in a statement.

Hard as it is to believe with everything going on right now, but Christmas is only about five weeks away, and the streaming market is already looking crowded. Although Netflix can probably expect to continue their dominance over subscribers through the end of 2020, Amazon Prime are releasing some notable titles for the last month of the year, including original films like I’m Your Woman and new episodes of The Expanse.
In terms of the former, it stars Rachel Brosnahan of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel in a picture about a woman who has to go on the run after her husband gets into trouble with his business partner. We’ll also be seeing the much-anticipated Sound of Metal, which features Riz Ahmed as a heavy metal drummer who develops hearing loss. This one will receive a limited theatrical release before heading to Amazon on December 4th. And elsewhere, viewers can expect...

An election season is fast-approaching in the U.S. So for its new releases in September 2020, Amazon Prime is bringing back one of its most political shows.
The Boys season 2 premieres its first three episodes on September 4. Though the show on its face is a superhero story, viewers of season 1 will know it’s really about America’s troubling embrace of entertainment with fascism. Sounds fun and not at all terrifying right before a presidential election!
That’s not the only bleak Amazon original on the schedule for September. British TV adaptation Utopia arrives on September 25. This Gillian Flynn-produced series follows fans of a comic book who believe it predicts…world-ending pandemics. Darn it. Amazon’s only original film this month is a…documentary about voter suppression from Liz Garbus called All In: The Fight for Democracy. Yikes.

Atrium TV CEO, Richard Halliwell, said Sunday that Michael Douglas-produced “Silo,” which was first shown to members in May, is moving forward with new scripts being written. The futuristic drama is set in San Francisco. Douglas will produce with Peter Horton (“Grey’s Anatomy”), who writes alongside Raelle Tucker (“Jessica Jones”).

This week’s question: During a period of political unrest, which TV show do you find yourself turning to?

This is weird, but as the inauguration of Donald Trump (and the attendant protests) have approached, I’ve been thinking more and more of “Lost,” a show filled with anxiety about the darkness humanity is capable of, but undergirded with hope about what we can do when we’re all forced to work together. Jason Statham is out and Rupert Grint is in. Here's the trailer for the TV remake of Snatch...
Guy Ritchie's 2000 movie Snatch is the latest film to get a TV remake. The original film, of course, starred the legendary Jason Statham alongside a bloke named Brad Pitt.
See related Power Rangers, boob armour, and impractical costumes
The TV take on Snatch will star Harry Potter's Ron Weasley actor Rupert Grint. He'll play Charlie Cavendish, who's been described as “dynamic, frustratingly chaotic, and utterly posh.”
Here's the first trailer...
The show's cast also includes Dougray Scott (Mission: Impossible II, Taken 3, Fear The Walking Dead) as Vic Hill, and Ed Westwick of Gossip Girl as Sonny Castillo. Fans of the film will notice that these are brand new character names, not recastings of the old crew.
Here's the synopsis, which, again, isn't identical to the film...

Tinchy Strider, Gemma Collins, Melanie Sykes and Michael Buerk (What?) were all confirmed to be taking part in I'm a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! this afternoon.
But in a few years, will we even remember them? Unless they pull some Paul Burrell or Gillian McKeith-style stunts, frankly it's unlikely.
Why? Because we completely forgot these 9 big names have been there, done that and swallowed the testicles…
9. Neil Ruddock
Long after Razor stopped playing for Liverpool, but before he was taking part in Celebrity Big Brother, we forgot that he came seventh on the ITV show. He also 'starred' in a recent episode of C5's Can't Pay? We'll Take it Away, in which he had his stuff respossessed by bailiffs. So, unlike most celebs, the jungle didn't prove to be the lowest point in Neil's career.

Cast regulars Martin Shaw (Gently) and Lee Ingleby (Bacchus) return alongside Lisa McGrillis as Wpc Coles. The new series is set at the end of the tumultuous decade and you can expect to see plenty of new innovations including furry dice and police radios.

As production work gears up Flannery gave fans in insight into the new season. “As the 60s draw to a close the issues facing policing seem more relevant than ever. Jason-Isaacs-in-Case-Histories
It’s hard to believe that it’s been almost three years since Case Histories season one aired on PBS. A second season of the very popular detective show premiered in the UK last summer and it finally makes its long awaited Us debut this week with the release of the second season on Acorn DVD.
Case Histories is set in Edinburgh, Scotland and is based on the Jackson Brodie novels written by Kate Atkinson. The central character is a private eye with a colorful past who struggles to make ends meet by taking on a wide variety of investigative work. Brodie is played by Harry Potter villain Jason Isaacs — sans the blonde wig. For someone so often cast as a bad guy, Isaacs actually does very well in this part. He’s not the most engaging or energetic bloke you’ll ever find but he’s persistent, loyal...

George Gently, Series 6
Created by Peter Flannery
Available Streaming on Acorn.TV
The police procedural is as old as television itself. Over the decades, pretty much every permutation of the genre has had its day in the sun, with the genre itself often changing as television progressed. From the original Golden Age classic Dragnet, to the increasingly serialized Hill Street Blues, to the grittier NYPD Blue and the modern era’s novelistic, realistic masterpiece The Wire, the genre shifts with each age, and reflects back on the society that produces it.
You may have noticed that all of the shows in the above paragraph were American productions, and in fact, most of the genre’s heights hail from this side of the pond. Yet the British have their own history of police shows (from Z-Cars, through Prime Suspect, and even last year’s Broadchurch) to draw from. George Gently, which just wrapped its sixth series,...

After commenting - and some might say quite extensively! - on a few recent Digital Spy articles about the future of the BBC and the TV licence, I was asked if I would like to write a guest piece on "the pros and cons of keeping a licence fee".
Well, I was flattered as I've never been asked to do anything like that before, but it is something I feel rather strongly about and so I thought it might be a good idea - if only to try to counter some of the misinformed and not-very-well-thought-out "opinions" that seem to keep cropping up in the comments section of said articles.
In the modern era, when we have so many alternative sources of "television", the licence fee is thought to be archaic, outdated and anachronistic. But is it really?
We do have another public service that was brought in some 20 years...

Inspector George Gently
The latest batch of George Gently episodes come to DVD on 1 April and you’d be a fool to miss out on this boxset. As you will recall, season five ended with Gently and Bacchus, shot and wounded on the floor of Durham Cathedral. Would they recover? Would they ever work again? Well given that there is a season six I don’t think you can accuse me of releasing a “spoiler” if I tell you that the duo made a full recovery. However, it wasn’t an easy road, especially for Bacchus whose wallowing in self-pity eventually led him down an unhealthy path of booze and gambling. Older and wiser, Gently realized that work was the best therapy and he quickly got back to doing what he does best — solving murders.
Even by George Gently‘s own standards, season six features a lot of introspection as...

George Gently
Acorn TV released the latest installment of George Gently on Monday night and the new episode saw Gently investigating some of the murkier aspects of his past and the Cold War. Gently With Honour began with a gruesome murder in a Turkish bath. Bacchus quickly jumped to his own conclusions and deduced that the murder was connected to a dispute between homosexual men. Gently reserved judgement but quickly uncovered a series of clues that led him to the British military establishment. The seemingly psychotic killer was suffering from the ill-effects of psychological experiments undertaken by the army. The man in question had been given drugs including LSD and Pcp during tests designed to create a truth serum. The military brass knew that the man was homosexual and that fact alone would have been enough to discharge him from the army. As things got murkier, it emerged that another...

Acorn TV Review: Inspector George Gently– Blue For Bluebird
Kieran Kinsella
Inspector George Gently decided to head to a holiday camp this week in the latest episode of the show which airs on BBC1 and is available in the U.S. on AcornTV. His trip was for work rather than pleasure though as Gently attempted to solve a murder mystery involving one of the camp hosts or “Bluebirds.”
The young woman’s body washed up on a nearby beach. Neither friends nor family had reported her missing but her work outfit enabled Gently and Bacchus to put a name to the body. Contrasting pictures of Megan soon emerged as Gently and Bacchus interviewed her colleagues and family members. Her snobby parents viewed her as a tearaway, her co-workers described her as a fun loving starlet with tardiness issues. The pompous camp owner attempted to brush the killing under the rug...

Martin Shaw has claimed that UK television is often too simple for viewers.
The Inspector George Gently actor said he prefers shows that encourage audiences to use their "brain power" to work out parts of the plot.
He told Pa: "I prefer the mystery to unravel bit by bit and for brain power and guesswork to be used.
"Very often there are views, shall we say, at the higher level, that want it to be plainer and more easily digested for the audience, and I tend to not like that so much.
"I think to some extent, English television has underestimated its audience for a number of years, so what both me, [Inspector George Gently co-star] Lee [Ingleby] and our directors often try to do, is to make it more, dare I say, sophisticated or challenging."
Shaw admitted that it is a "very difficult challenge to meet", as it is still important for programmes to appeal to the audience.
