People toss around the word often and never really quite hit the mark with it, but every once in a while a person comes by to remind you of what true delusion really is (be it in real life or on TV), and that person for this season was Lacey.
The casting call for contestants tells you what to expect and anybody who has watched even one season of any of his shows where you cook to compete, know what to expect. Further more he tells you from day one what the reward is. It's all clear from the onset, especially considering interviews are done in advance before they even reach a bus or airplane to get to Hell's Kitchen. Yet having said all that, this doesn't stop the delusional.
Lacey lacked everything needed to not only win the contest, but even be a standard team member of any of Ramsay's establishments. She couldn't verbalize, often went silent and didn't communicate properly, blamed two dozen people for her own personal inability to present anything but a terrible attitude, and worked so slowly old ladies with walkers could pass her by. Somebody with a year's worth of employment experience from a Taco Bell would know better how to work, time manage, and prep'. She reminds me of a person who cleans their own house and then thinks they have the knowledge and skill to be a professional cleaner.
Like other delusional people before her on various Ramsay shows, Elise, Amy, Gen, Raj, Sebastian Di Modica, Lacey honestly appeared to think she not only had what it took, but that this was a training ground to help her refine her own inadequacies, even though it was made clear a leader was needed who can run an entire restaurant. The only thing she could run is her mouth. Why she was kept around for so long when it was clear as day early on she not only didn't have "it", she couldn't identify "it" if it was on her station, is confusing; perhaps he wanted somebody who would push the others to work hard and show what they got or don't have when under pressure.
It's kind of rare to be kicked off the show while in service, so you know when that happens you have a special kind of person to accomplish this, so it was no shock when it occurred. If anything, I found myself commenting aloud "Take her jacket".
And sad music for her sudden and inevitable exit? No, if ever there was a clear need for Hallelujah, this was it.
She didn't have the energy, she didn't have the passion, she didn't have the basic skills, she didn't know how to work and communicate with other people, and she didn't know how to cook meats.
what a lady with these problems does for a living and what employer would of their own free will hire her, is beyond me. I don't know where she goes from this, if her employer still wants her back after this national embarrassment. There's nothing like showing the whole world what you don't got, when you are still trying to make a living. Yikes.
