A great watch

Great story and great acting throughout. Well worth a watch. I've not watched the original film so came into this cold. I thoroughly enjoyed the series. Hopefully season 2 will be made.

"The Brass Verdict"
allmoviesfan25 February 2023
Following the penultimate episode cliffhanger, along comes a highly entertaining, well-written and well-acted season finale that satisfyingly - for better or worse, depending on the characters involved - wraps up all the storylines that have unfolded in the previous nine The Lincoln Lawyer episodes, ever since criminal defence lawyer Mickey Haller, fresh off a drug addiction post-surfing injury, had the Trevor Elliott murder case (and everything, sketchy and otherwise, that came with that high-profile assignment) dropped in his lap.

As there should be with a good show, there were a few plot twists and a couple of things happen that certainly open some pretty good possibilities for a second series that has been renewed for another ten episodes - still not enough! I liked that there was just enough of a cliffhanger to whet the appetite for the show's sophomore season.

Props to the cast, especially the very engaging Manuel Garcia-Rulfo as Mickey Haller and Neve Campbell as Maggie McPherson.

More people should know about this show, because it's brilliant with a capital B. A big round of applause to all involved, especially Michael Connelly, whose literary genius started it all.

Justice, Justice, and More Justice...Almost

While I enjoyed the conclusion, one should not take too close a look at it. It's always suspect when just about every loose end is tied up. There certainly are a lot of bad guys out there. One is still left at the end, setting things up for a second season. If I'm still alive I will probably watch it. Anyway, it has provided me with a couple days of entertainment.

Magnum Opus

With so many open strands it was looking difficult to get credible closure, but the writers produced a magnificent ending that draws the threads together perfectly. There is no serendipity, or magic McGuffin, it all follows reasonably and logically from what went before.

The standard is high throughout the season with complicated interweaving plotlines, delightfully drafted dialogue, and numerous excellent performances. Some of the cinematography was sketchy, with an overuse of selective focus, a few bizarre orange casts and underexposed night scenes. There are a lot of appropriate quotations drizzled into each episode, but the finale becomes an unnecessary citation deluge.

Notwithstanding the few minor quibbles above this episode is a masterful ending and leaves the door open for a well deserved sequel.

How to do a season finale
DaStooza14 May 2022
Beautifully brought together all the strings from the season and left a few dangling for season 2 which hopefully gets made. I thought the casting decisions made this show for me and I look forward to seeing them again. Really good finale to a great first season.

season finale

Warning: Spoilers
Dude, after the twist of the rich guy actually doing the deed, i thought we were pretty much done but i guess not

so cute maggie going to him.. i really thought it was going to be izzy going to him lol, how maggie found out.. dunno, guess mickey called her off camera..

and if i remember for the books. They did get together twice.. like it happend here.. but it did not last and they split up again.. dont remember if haller gets other romantical interests.. guess not... some colabs with bosch..

think it was connellys other character that went around the block.. the reporter.. with a FBI agent and another one.. also not sure.. connelly primarily focused on bosch.. now retired and playing sidekick... to a woman.. like 40 years his senior and is able to make maverick badass bosch to defer to her.. instead of her going to him for advice and actually listening to him.. oh well, but you know how it is these days.. strong, independent.. and dont need no m...

anyways back to the last episode.

Langford, the detective, was the one that told the other detective to scare mickeys witness away on the menendez case and that blew maggies case away.. and she got angry at mickey.. funny that he did not know that until last minute.. it is not like he did that on purpose to make her look bad.. and the way she talked to him... didnt she kind do some emotional blackmail with him? Make the witness in her case, that mickey was representing, to wear a wire and she used the fixing things as him doing that.. lol why the moral highground now? Kinda jealous cause mickey got 2 wins with the trevor case and menedez while she got a 0 anyway, shouting match begins.. of course, nothings good comes ffrom that.

She saying she cant get past that.. and him saying he will wait.. come on, the way she was portrayed, she would have done the same and probably wouldnt care.. like he did..

but come on now, let us analyze the case, an innocent man is in jail because of corrupt cop.. that happened to be helping maggie in a case.. which got completely shut down because of what he did.. talk about an egostistical woman... i am sure if it were the opposite, she would not even waste time trying to be empathetic to him.. and of course, mickey would have forgiven her.. as we all know, men are always soft in tv series.

Great ending.. good twists with the judge.. and i guess maggie leaving .. but we did not find out what deal cisco made.

Totally unbelievable ending

Warning: Spoilers
Spoiler Alert

Unbelievable ending. Everyone is corrupt. Cops, Judges. Other lawyers. Defendants. Tech billionaires. It's a wonder you can go out.

Minor quibble. After the judge in the habeas proceeding (played by Bruce Davidson) twice makes the point that there is no jury, he then calls for a sidebar where he talk loud enough for everyone in the courtroom to hear. The only point of a sidebar that is taken down by the court reporter is to keep the discussion from the jury, which we established was not there.

The worst new show of the year
hype212023 May 2022
Bad writing. Riddled with clichés. Incredibly poor acting, sans 2-3 actors I won't mention. Bizarre directing especially in episodes 8 & 9. The entire show is predictable and insulting to the audience. Izzy serves as an exposition pawn. David Kelley has lost it. Avoid this mind numbing drivel.
