Updated with latest: Selena Gomez revealed the Wizards of Waverly Place sequel title at Disney’s upfront Tuesday. The spinoff will be called Wizards Beyond Waverly Place. She also shared two first-look images which can be found below.
Deadline broke the news of the sequel series in January. Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas serve as writers and executive producers. Andy Fickman directed and executive-produced the pilot and will direct multiple episodes.
The original show ran four seasons, winning Emmys and doing well in the ratings until star Selena Gomez decided it was time to graduate to more adult roles. The show ran from 2007-2012, with Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie also airing on the Disney Channel in 2009. The cast returned for a stand-alone television special, The Wizards Return: Alex vs. Alex, in 2013.
There have been rumors of another reunion ever since and now, after a decade, Disney is making them a reality.

Disney Channel original movies are a great part of our cultural heritage. There was a film for every youthful taste. For those who loved music, there was Camp Rock. If magic was your thing, then Halloweentown or Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie it was. Into aggressive inline skating? Brink all the way. And for movie fans that enjoyed watching hot jocks turn into leprechauns, there was nothing better than the entertainment institution The Luck of the Irish. How this film was robbed of any sort of awards accomplishment, we'll never know, but in the meantime we'll stick to celebrating its brilliance on our own. And there's no better time to take a walk down the...

Time will tell if "Teen Beach Movie" becomes the phenomenon that "High School Musical" was, but it's off to a pretty great start.
The Disney Channel movie debuted Friday (July 19) to 8.4 million viewers, the biggest audience on all of TV for the night. About half that audience was made up of the kids and tweens that are Disney's core audience, but it also drew 1.6 million adults 18-49 -- also the best of the night.
By comparison, the first "High School Musical" drew 7.7 million viewers for its premiere in 2006 before exploding to 17.2 million viewers for "HSM2" the next year.
"Teen Beach Movie" is now the No. 3 Disney Channel original movie ever, behind "High School Musical 2" and "Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie," which brought in 11.4 million people in 2009.
Following the movie, the premiere of Disney's series "Liv & Maddie" scored a robust 5.8 million viewers.

I happened to catch the High School Musical spin-off Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure while watching a friend’s kid sister last weekend, and I have to say, once and for all, that I’m totally and completely over Disney Channel Original Movies… and it’s about time. Will "The Pacific" sweep the technical awards or will the miniseries share some of the love with its sister HBO program, the moving biopic "Temple Grandin," starring Claire Danes?
It's Saturday, Aug. 21 and time for the Creative Arts Emmys, held a week and a day before the Primetime Emmy Awards telecast. It's the awards event that honors the people behind the scenes who deserve recognition, but apparently didn't make the cut to be on the already overflowing live event.

It's nice to see that Joseph Gordon-Levitt has a sense of humor about the way people are reacting to "Inception" — not that its weekend on top at the box office should have him being defensive. The movie got a largely positive, if occasionally confused reception on Twitter in the meantime. You can check out what Shannon Elizabeth, Emma Caulfield and Ice-t thought down below.
Elsewhere, Selena Gomez had a great birthday, in case you were wondering. You can find out why, along with what Jaime King might look like as Aurra Sing in "Star Wars: A New Hope," a relationship between Bp and Mel Gibson as imagined by Kevin Nealon, and which "Cowboys and Aliens" scene Jon Favreau has been getting ready to shoot after the jump.

David Deluise, currently starring in popular Disney Channel series Wizards of Waverly Place, is the latest special guest announced for the London McM Expo.
The Emmy Award-winning comedy sees DeLuise playing former sorcerer Jerry Russo, who lives with his three trainee wizard children in Manhattan's Waverly Place.
DeLuise will also be signing autographs for his young fans free of charge - on top of the fact that children aged ten and under already get into the Expo for free if accompanied by a full paying adult (restricted to two children per full paying adult).
Son of veteran comedic actor Dom DeLuise who died in May last year, David has also appeared in other hit television shows such as 3rd Rock From the Sun and Stargate Sg-1, as well as 2009's big screen adaptation Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie.

Not everyone in Twitter-Wood chose to wear green for St. Patrick's Day, but some, like Kat Dennings, had to confront pinch mobs as a direct result of their decisions. Others, like P. Diddy and Kim Kardashian embraced the holiday, wearing green and identifying their Irish heritage.
Jon Favreau, meanwhile, still has a little bit of effects work left to do on "Iron Man 2," and he's still updating his Twitter account right into his last days on the project. You can find out what he's doing, see what Emmy Rossum thought of "Justified" on FX and see pictures that I can only assume include Selena Gomez's bowling team and a popular nickname for Christopher Mintz-Plasse on the "Kick-Ass" set. Fox 2000 has brought Selena Gomez to "Monte Carlo". Variety reports that the actress has signed on to star in the femme comedy, tackling one of three major characters. However, further details about her character are yet to be revealed.
Beside Gomez, the studio is said approaching "Gossip Girl" actress Leighton Meester to star in the movie but the deal has not been sealed. Moreover, the Disney cutie may share screen with Nicole Kidman as the 42-year-old beauty may have a supporting role in the film.
Kidman will produce "Monte Carlo" alongside Denise Di Novi and Alison Greenspan. Thomas Bezucha, who previously directed "The Family Stone", is set to serve behind the lens when the film starts production in May in Monaco, Budapest and Paris.

Let’s say you’ve never heard of Disney’s hit show Wizards of Waverly Place. You’re strolling though the DVD section of your local big box store and you see a shiny gold box in the corner of your eye. Is it a pot of gold left by a little person? No. No rainbows. Could it be what was inside Marsellus Wallace’s briefcase in Pulp Fiction? No. Well maybe, I have no idea what was in that briefcase. The gold item is in fact Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie. “Good heavens, I didn’t realize there was a Wizards of Waverly Place: The Show,” you mumble to yourself. You’re concerned about the “color-changing wishing stone with clip!” that is included in the set, but you don’t care because there is a behind-the-scenes tour with the cast, dubbed an “insider exclusive.”

USA Network made a clean sweep of the 2009 ratings race, marking the fourth consecutive win for the NBC Universal powerhouse. Per Nielsen ratings data (a blend of live-plus-seven-day and two weeks of live-plus-same-day numbers), USA drew a record 3.27 million viewers in primetime, a 14% improvement over its year-ago delivery.
For the period spanning Dec. 29, 2008, through Dec. 27, 2009, USA swept ad-supported cable's three top TV demos, averaging 1.49 million adults 25-54, an increase of 11% versus 2008, while serving up 1.32 million viewers 18-49 (up 5%). The network also held off TBS to take the younger set, drawing 616,000 viewers 18-34.
USA effectively shattered the records it set in 2008, when it averaged 2.86 million total viewers, 1.34 million adults 25-54 and 1.32 million viewers 18-49.
(When factoring in all basic-cable nets, this year marks USA's second straight win among total viewers. In 2007, non-ad-supported Disney Channel topped the total cable universe with 2.7 million total viewers, edging USA's 2.68 million in the same period.)

If you're a fan of Wizards of Waverly Place (TV), then you'll love Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie (2009), which is out now as an extended edition DVD from the folks at Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment. The film is suprisingly good. Actually, let me explain this one a bit. I don't mean "surprisingly" in the sense that I expected it to be bad; what I mean to say is it's exceptionally well done, with a movie's story -- as opposed to feeling like three or four episodes strung together -- and the producers obviously had the necessary money at their disposal, as the scope is far larger and the visual effects are significantly better than we normally see on the weekly show. Next, for those wondering why I am watching Wizards of Waverly Place, well, it's part of my gig, but I have an 11-year-old daughter who's a big...

Tacoma - Who could imagine making a documentary about dolphins could lead to so much trouble. When director Louie Psihoyos exposed what the Japanese locals were doing to dolphins in Taiji, Japan in The Cove, he found himself a wanted man. This sea-side community celebrates their relationship with the dolphin. But there’s a darkside when they herd dolphins into a cove, sell the prized ones to aquariums for $150,000 each. The remaining dolphins are slaughtered and given to school kids as whale meat. He found himself wanted by the Japanese law for various charges including videotaping undercover police officers.
Certain folks have defended this slaughter as cultural dining. How dare Americans protest what the Japanese eat. The falsely labeled dolphin meat has toxic levels of mercury. Remember that this is the same Japan that will shut off imports of American agriculture and livestock with the rumor of something being amiss.

This week's DVD release line-up may not be huge in terms of quantity, but it makes up for it with quality. Also out this week is Ang Lee's Taking Woodstock and The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard (previously only available for rental), along with the fourth season of Adult Swim's Robot Chicken. On Blu-ray, it's the third and final season of Star Trek: The Original Series and The Mel Brooks Collection, meanwhile Best Buy has the exclusive debut of Boogie Nights in high-def. Will you be doing any DVD shopping this week? Here are the new TV DVDs, in stores tomorrow.
I think I might have asked this question before, but I'll ask it again: just how many Star Trek (original series) sets are there? There seems to be a new one released every few months. I know there are Blu-ray sets being released now, but at what point does even the most die-hard Trek fan say enough is enough and they're not going to buy any more? A friend of mine loves Star Trek and seems to buy every new version of the show that comes out.

USA Network wrapped up yet another record-breaking quarter, sweeping the three major demos in primetime and drawing an unprecedented 3.45 million total viewers, an increase of 21% versus its Q3 '08 delivery.
For the period spanning June 29-Sept. 27, USA served up 1.35 million adults 18-49, an increase of 6% over its prior-year delivery, while skating to another victory among adults 25-54, averaging 1.56 million members of the demo, an improvement of 15%.
USA also wrested the 18-34 crown from TBS, averaging 570,000, up 3% from a year ago. TBS trailed in the demo by around 37,000 viewers, per Nielsen ratings data.
For the quarter, USA posted its best program delivery with the mid-season finale of "Burn Notice," which drew 9.1 million viewers upon the addition of seven days of DVR viewing. (The day after the show's August 6 airdate, Nielsen live-plus-same-day data had "Burn Notice's" delivery pegged at 7.59 million viewers. As such, time-shifted viewing raised the episode's overall audience by 20%.)
