Ashley Judd is honoring her late mother, Naomi Judd nearly two years after she took her own life. More so, she is doing this through mental health work and advocacy. So, what exactly is Ashley doing to keep her mother’s memory alive? Keep reading for more details.
Ashley Judd Honors Mom, Naomi With Mental Health Work
It seems like only yesterday that country icon Naomi Judd took her own life after a long mental health battle. She was getting ready to set out on tour with her daughter, Wynonna Judd for the first time in a decade. They had performed as The Judds for quite some time and fans adored them. Aside from the tragic way that Naomi died, a self-inflicted gunshot wound, her younger daughter, Ashley Judd was the one who found her. This was clearly traumatic for Ashley but it did bring her and Wynonna closer together.

Ava DuVernay has only made five narrative features, but she’s one of the busiest women in Hollywood.
Before 2023, the California-born filmmaker’s last feature was her “A Wrinkle in Time” adaptation, released in theaters in 2018 — a five-year gap between releases that’s partially attributable to projects that sputtered in development like DC’s “New Gods” film and a Prince biopic. And yet, DuVernay has remained a constant presence during that relatively long gap, translating her numerous talents to producing and TV work. She created and directed the acclaimed Netflix miniseries “When They See Us,” about the controversial Central Park Five case. Several other TV projects followed, including OWN’s “Cherish the Day,” Netflix’s “Colin in Black and White,” and The CW’s “Naomi.” But while many of those projects have been terrific, it’s great to see the director of great films like “Middle of Nowhere” and “Selma...

Study Reveals Most Inclusive Episodic TV Programming; Greg Berlanti, Ava DuVernay Top Producers List
Just in time for Monday’s Emmy awards, the USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative and Dr. Stacy L. Smith, along with the the Adobe Foundation, have unveiled The Inclusion List for episodic programming, which recognizes the most inclusive series in broadcast, cable and streaming.
Following a similar effort for films, the list analyzes on-screen and behind-the-camera personnel from more than 500 programs to determine the 100 most inclusive broadcast and cable series from the 2021-22 broadcast season, as well as streaming series from 2021 to 2023. The project also recognizes 20 producers responsible for the most inclusive content.
“The goal of the Inclusion List is to recognize the stories and storytellers who are taking inclusion seriously and whose content reflects their values,” said Dr. Smith, founder of the Annenberg Inclusion Initiative. “With today’s release of the Inclusion List for broadcast/cable and streaming series, we are excited to acknowledge the creative voices championing inclusion across the spectrum of episodic content.

"I never would've guessed that I'd have won for Best Actor in a Comedy," Leonardo DiCaprio said when he collected his Golden Globe for "The Wolf of Wall Street" in 2014. DiCaprio has played many different roles -- some dramatic, some thrilling, and many that seem to be suffering perpetual panic attacks. In the past decade, however, DiCaprio has started to include levity in that anxiety.
In "Killers of the Flower Moon," DiCaprio plays Ernest, a simple guy and a veteran who falls in love with an Osage woman. But soon enough, Ernest gets involved in a crime ring and a conspiracy to murder Osage members for their money. There are hints of DiCaprio's past performances in Ernest. There's a bit of his anxiety-ridden undercover cop from "The Departed," some of the boyish charm from his earlier roles, and also the in-over-his-head escalation of "The Wolf of Wall Street." He is charming,...

While the Marvel Cinematic Universe was busy changing the way Hollywood studios approach their biggest franchises (and all which that implies), The CW and DC were off making TV history with the Arrowverse. Much like the House of Ideas' multimedia superhero property, the Arrowverse was all over the place in terms of its quality and success. Certain killjoys would tell you its flagship series went on for way too long, while others would blame its limited resources and financing for preventing it from truly doing justice to the epic comic book arcs it adapted.
Overall, though, the Arrowverse was a daring experiment in the best way. That's why we're hitting the pause button and reflecting on its legacy before DC Studios head honchos James Gunn and Peter Safran usher in their shiny-new unified vision for all things DC-related.

Ava DuVernay has “opted to not renew” her overall deal with Warner Bros. Television following its expiration at the end of the month, TheWrap has learned.
The “Selma” director signed the multi-year agreement with Wbtv back in 2018, which was estimated to be valued at around $100 million. The deal was struck with former Wbtv Group chairman Peter Roth, who left the position in 2021.
Sources said that the decision to end the deal was mutual between Wbtv and DuVernay and made prior to the start of the writers’ strike.
DuVernay, who is expected to focus on her current film slate, is currently in post-production on her film “Caste,” which she is directing. The film stars Vera Farmiga, Niecy Nash, Nick Offerman, Jon Bernthal, Audra McDonald and Connie Nielsen.

Ava DuVernay has ended her rich overall deal with Warner Bros. Television Group, multiple sources confirm to Variety.
While news of this decision comes amid the writers strike, the contract talks were unrelated. DuVernay’s deal was set to expire on May 31 and the two parties came to a “mutual decision not to renew.”
DuVernay signed the multi-year agreement in 2018, which was reported to be valued at $100 million, following the parties’ successful collaboration on OWN’s “Queen Sugar,” which signed off last year after seven seasons.
“Ava DuVernay is one of the leading lights in our industry, a brilliantly talented writer, producer, director and entrepreneur whose ability to inspire with her art is exceeded only by her ability to entertain,” former Warner Bros. GLAAD’s “Where We Are on TV” study this year found a 6% decrease in the number of LGBTQ characters across broadcast, cable and streaming — and the cancellation/ending of shows surely isn’t helping matters.
Ahead of the latest study’s measurement period, the cancellation of Batwoman, Charmed, DC’s Legend of Tomorrow, 4400, Legacies and Naomi (on just The CW alone), plus Killing Eve, Claws, Dickinson, Astrid and Lily Save the World, The Wilds, Genera+ion, Y: The Last Man, Dear White People, Gentefied and Saved by the Bell (to name but a few), had already made a dent in LGBTQ representation.

Prior to Nexstar Media Group, Inc. acquiring a 75% ownership interest in The CW Network, the TV network reported $100 million in losses, canceled numerous series and retired long-time president Mark Pedowitz, seemingly signalling the end of grooming popular DC Comics' superheroes into woke TV content 'Lqbtq' characters:
The CW's recently canceled TV series include "Supergirl", "Naomi", "Batwoman", "Legends of Tomorrow", "In the Dark", the "Vampire Diaries" spinoff "Legacies", as well as the network's reboots of "Charmed", "Dynasty", "4400" and "Roswell, New Mexico".
Final seasons this year also include the series "The Flash", "Superman & Lois", "All American", "Nancy Drew", "Stargirl", "Walker" and "Kung Fu".
Warner Bros. Discovery and Paramount Global, the current co-owners of The CW, will each retain a 12.5 percent ownership interest in the network and will continue to produce original, scripted content.

Between Warner Bros. axing her DC Comics movie, "New Gods," Netflix dropping her fantasy novel series adaptation, "Wings of Fire," and The CW canceling her DC superhero drama, "Naomi," it feels like it's been way too long since Ava DuVernay got to make headlines for good reasons. Thankfully, that changes with the celebrated storyteller's next directorial feature, "Caste," which began filming in December 2022 in Georgia ahead of planned shoots in Germany and India. This would be the "Selma" filmmaker's first time behind the camera on a full-length movie since her 2018 Disney fantasy adventure, "A Wrinkle in Time".
To her credit, DuVernay hasn't allowed those various cancelations to slow her down. Quite the opposite, she wrapped up her familial drama series "Queen Sugar" while also helming part of HBO Max's "Dmz" comic book miniseries adaptation over that same period of time (among other things — more on that to come). Following the departure of Walter Hamada from Warner Bros. Discovery, DC Films became DC Studios and the company appointed James Gunn and Peter Safran as the new co-chairs of the all-new DC Universe. However, when they stepped into these new positions, the duo weren't just given the reins to the cinematic universe containing fan-favorite characters such as Batman, Wonder Woman, and Superman. They were also brought in to oversee the television and animation projects based on the vast history of DC Comics.

New CW Entertainment president Brad Schwartz has one job: Make The CW profitable for the first time ever — and do it by 2025, as new parent company Nexstar promised Wall Street.
On Wednesday, the day his post was announced, Schwartz told IndieWire that he “hopes to beat” the deadline.
“It’s definitely not going to be easy,” said Schwartz, whose official start date is November 7. Already, he said, there are some pieces in place, including “a lot” of revenue from ad sales and digital. “We’re not starting from absolute scratch.”
Schwartz has made a career out of turnarounds, launches, and rebrands. There’s been seven to date, the most notable being the time he rebranded the TV Guide Network as Pop TV, which brought us “Schitt’s Creek” and “One Day at a Time.” We began our telephone conversation by asking Schwartz if The CW needs a new name.

Four episodes into its debut season, "The Winchesters" was starting to feel too good to be true. The idea of The CW's 15-season behemoth "Supernatural" getting a spinoff was always a daunting prospect — after all, they've tried this many times before. While prior attempts never made it past their backdoor pilots, "The Winchesters" quickly got the go-ahead for a 13-episode season (plus the possibility of a full 22-episode order). But even when the show finally started hitting the airwaves, fans were plenty skeptical of the "Supernatural" prequel.
Told from the perspective of narrator Dean Winchester (voiced by Jensen Ackles), "The Winchesters" is the story of how his and Sam's parents fell in love and saved the world — a story that was already partially told by the Og series. So why craft an entire prequel around a romance we've already seen play out? I still don't have an answer for that,...

Roughly 30-40 employees of The CW were laid off on Tuesday by new owner Nexstar Media, IndieWire has learned.
The move is the first large scale overhaul at the CW after Nexstar, the largest television-station owner in the United States, took control of the channel’s operation on October 3. Warner Bros. Discovery and Paramount Global, The CW’s previous owners, sold a majority of their unprofitable joint venture to Nexstar in June.

Supernatural fans really showed up for the premiere of the origin story of the Winchester family on The CW on Tuesday, October 11. The Winchesters was the network’s most-watched series debut since Naomi on January 2022, according to Deadline. The first episode averaged 757,000 total viewers, and it is just behind Walker as the CW’s second most-watched premiere this season. When the first season of Supernatural aired in 2005 on the WB, it was never a huge ratings performer. The show averaged a little more than 4.5 million viewers per episode. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Supernatural developed a strong fanbase because The CW’s first Netflix deal included seasons one through six of the series, which helped to develop the audience. The series finale drew in 1.38 million viewers. Tumblr also helped to boost the Supernatural fandom, with Fansided reporting the series had the largest amount of engagement on Tumblr from any live-action television series.

It’s a small success, but the CW will surely take it these days: Tuesday’s series premiere of The Winchesters was The CW’s most-watched debut so far this season in total viewers.
The Supernatural spinoff averaged 757,000. It was the network’s most-watched series debut since Naomi on January 2022, and it is just behind Walker as the CW’s second most-watched premiere this season.
It was also the CW’s most-watched telecast in the time period since June 28, 2022 (Superman & Lois).
The Winchesters is a prequel to the CW’s long-running Supernatural, centered on Dean and Sam Winchester’s parents – John and Mary. Told from the perspective of narrator Dean Winchester (voiced by Jensen Ackles), The Winchesters tells how John met Mary and then went on to save the world.
Over the weekend at New York Comic Con, it was announced that Tom Welling would join the series this season.

“We’d always talked about, like, the fact that we were starting Season 4 with a proposal, we expected people would have a wedding,” Hollier explained. “So how can we surprise them with what that wedding would be? And the answer was,...

Welcome back to the Scene 2 Seen Podcast!
This week we’re having a heated discussion about the state of Wlw television. After several cancellations of shows back to back, fans are questioning which elements are causing the targeted entertainment to get the ax. Is it poor marketing? Is it the budget cuts and layoffs at streaming companies? Is it homophobia? None of us on the ground have the answers but my guest and I do ponder where it comes from, and talk about solutions.
Today’s show features four queer speakers who include:
Audrey Nieh, and Laurel Hechanova, of the Sapphic Culture Club podcast, Princess Weekes, assistant editor at Geek site The Mary Sue, and Carolyn Bergier, co-host of the Dyking Out podcast
To expand on this idea, queer film and television has been on a steady increase in the past 10 years. There is content that caters...

When you think of the shows that have aired on The CW, you likely think of Supernatural, The Flash, Riverdale, The Vampire Diaries, and more, all shows which seemed aimed at a teenage/twenty-something audience. It turns out that the age of the average viewer of The CW is a hell of a lot older than you would have thought.

It was announced today that Nexstar Media Group is set to take a 75 ownership stake in The CW, with previous owners Paramount Global and Warner Bros. Discovery each retaining 12.5. While speaking of this transition, Nexstar President and Chief Operating Officer Tom Carter explained that the age of the average CW viewer is, in fact… 58 years old.

Nexstar Media Group revealed Monday it is set acquire a 75 majority stake in the CW Network from Paramount Global and Warner Bros. Discovery, more than six months after first beginning negotiations for the deal.
Warner Bros. Discovery (formed through the recent merger of WarnerMedia with Discovery) and Paramount (rebranded from ViacomCBS earlier this year) have co-owned the network since early 2006, when the WB and Upn were merged after nearly a dozen years on the air into a single entity, so named for the “C” in CBS and “W” in Warner Bros. Both Paramount and Wbd will each retain a 12.5 ownership in the CW and continue to produce content for the broadcaster upon close of the sale, which Nexstar expects will happen during the current third quarter.

Any actor’s directorial debut is daunting. But for “Roswell, New Mexico” star Michael Trevino, things were significantly easier thanks to his leading lady, Jeanine Mason, who apparently was “saving” him on the daily.
In Monday night’s episode, directed by Trevino, we meet Outlaw Liz (Mason). She’s a parallel version of the Liz Ortecho we’ve come to know and love, who acts on her darker impulses. Thanks to the chemical compound she inhaled, Liz is trapped in her mindscape, battling for dominance. That mindscape, of course, is an old western town, in which Liz is the sheriff, haunted by Outlaw Liz.
Mason took on double duty for the week and according to Trevino, needed very little direction from him.
“I literally was just behind the monitor, because I know how talented she is,” Trevino recalled to TheWrap. “And then I see her play this completely different character,...

It has been one heck of a run, but it looks as though the Arrowverse may be coming to an end on The CW.
The network has been canceling shows left and right as of late, with several of its DC shows, including "Legends of Tomorrow," "Batwoman," and "Naomi," all getting the axe. Now, after much speculation and rumor, it has been confirmed that "The Flash" season 9 will conclude the long-running series with an abbreviated final run of episodes. Though "abbreviated" in the case of network television still means 13 episodes. This likely signals the end of the line for the little...

It’s official: The upcoming ninth season of The Flash on the CW will be its last. It will debut in 2023 and consist of 13 episodes, making this the shortest season of its run.
As Deadline reported, speculation that Season 9 could be The Flash‘s final chapter started in January when star Grant Gustin agreed to a one-year deal, capping his Season 9 involvement at 15 episodes. The CW in May announced that next season will be held for midseason, the first time The Flash has not been on the network’s fall schedule except for the CW’s pandemic fall 2020 lineup comprised predominantly by acquisitions.

Well, this is a pleasant surprise.
Despite Kung Fu Season 2 Episode 13 sealing the fate of Zhilan, Yvonne Chapman is sticking around.

If you watch Kung Fu online, you know that Zhilan was killed off after sacrificing herself to take down Russell Tan.
It was a truly shocking development and one that got fans talking.
“It was never even a question for us that we’d be asking the incredible Yvonne Chapman back to the show,” co-showrunner Bob Berens said in a statement to TV Line.

Tom Swift is not long for this world.
The CW is pulling the plug on the Nancy Drew spinoff a month into its run.
Deadline broke the news Thursday, confirming that the network will air the entirety of the season.
The series got off to a mediocre start in the ratings in May, and is averaging around 500,000 viewers with a week of DVR factored in.
In any other season, those numbers might have been enough for The CW to keep the show around.
However, these are difficult times for the network.

“Tom Swift” has been canceled by The CW after one season, Variety has confirmed.
The news comes less than a month after the series, a spinoff of “Nancy Drew,” premiered on May 31. Sources close to the project tell Variety the decision came down to ratings, as the show failed to find an audience via linear TV or streaming. The five episodes of the series that have aired so far drew 0.1 ratings in the 18-49 demographic.
The news also comes a little over a month after The CW canceled a sizable amount of their originals, including “Charmed,” “Dynasty,” “Rosewell, New Mexico,” “4400,” “Legacies,” “Naomi” and “Batwoman.” In January, it was announced that Nexstar Media Group is in negotiations with the channel to acquire a sizable stake in it, after years of being predominantly owned by WarnerMedia.

Nexstar Media Group’s pursuit of majority control of the CW is nearing the finish line, according to people with knowledge of the pending transaction.
Word of the deal first surfaced last January, but it has taken some time to iron out details. As currently structured, the deal will see Nexstar take a 75 stake in the broadcast network, and current partners Paramount Global and Warner Bros Discovery each take 12.5. “Roswell, New Mexico” returns for its final season premiere on Monday night, and it’s bringing an old friend back into the fold — at least temporarily. Max Evans’ old partner and friend Jenna Cameron is back, and she needs his help solving what very well may be a crime committed by aliens.
Of course, this time around, Jenna Cameron (Riley Voelkel) is actually Agent Cameron, having taken a job with the FBI. But to be fair, she’s not the only one with a new title. Max (Nathan Dean Parsons) has one too; he’s currently the sheriff of Roswell (even if only in the interim). Their banter is as strong as ever, as Jenna needles Max by informing him that she only took the job “so I could outrank you, Evans.”
Jokes aside, there is a reason that Max was the one called in to help solve a bank...

Legends of the Hidden Temple will not be back for a second season. The CW has canceled its reboot of the classic Nickelodeon adventure format after one season, Deadline has confirmed.
The cancellation is not surprising — Legends of the Hidden Temple only averaged 222K Live+Same Day viewers through its run and only grew to 298K in Live+7. It was the CW’s lowest rated scripted series this past season.
The reimagining of the popular ’90s show hailed from Stone & Company, which produced the original series that ran on Nickelodeon for three seasons between 1993-1995. Hosted by Cristela Alonzo, the adult version preserved many of the original show elements including Moat Crossings, The Steps of Knowledge and the Temple Run as well as the team names such as Purple Parrots, Blue Barracudas, Orange Iguanas, Red Jaguars, Silver Snakes and Green Monkeys. While the last few weeks have seen several DC shows canceled at The CW — including Legends of Tomorrow, Batwoman, and Naomi — at least one new superhero series will hit the network next year: Gotham Knights. The new show follows the next generation of heroes to rise up in Gotham City after the death of Batman. Chief among these new vigilantes is Bruce Wayne’s adopted son, Turner Hayes (Oscar Morgan), who must take up his father’s mantle in order to keep his city safe from whoever is trying to frame him and a whole cavalcade of characters from the comics for Batman’s murder.
If the chance to see several characters from the Bat mythos in live-action for the first time isn’t exciting enough to get you excited, The CW has just dropped the show’s very first trailer, which promises lots of crime-fighting, a bit of Riverdale-style teen angst,...

The CW is bidding farewell to Riverdale.
The fan-favorite series is ending after seven seasons, the CW announced on Thursday. Its final episodes will premiere midseason, though the network did not announce a finale date or confirm the number of episodes. In the announcement, CW called the series “an iconic [show] that shaped and defined popular culture.”
Based on the beloved Archie Comics characters, Riverdale follows Archie, Betty, Veronica, Jughead and the rest of a group of high school friends as they try to bring down the evils lurking within their seemingly innocent town.

The CW opted to not renew almost a dozen scripted series ahead of the 2022-2023 season, and on Thursday morning, the network’s chairman and CEO, Mark Pedowitz, addressed why.
Pedowitz preemptively answered the question about all the cancellations before any journalist on the call had time to ask.
“Look, none of these were easy decisions,” he told reporters. “We have long conversations about studios and parent companies, and everyone recognized that this was a time of transition for The CW. So unfortunately, some difficult financial and strategic decisions needed to be made at every level.
“And despite some of the rumors out there, I want to be very clear here: Content was never a factor in deciding not to move forward with a show,” he continued. “We’re very proud of the stories we told, the producers and writers who created those shows and all the talent that we...

The CW is gearing up for some big change as a bulk of its slate was canceled much to fans’ shock and network boss Mark Pedowitz is giving context for the reasoning behind the surprising move. Among some of the casualties of the cancellation roundup include Arrowverse favorites Batwoman and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow as well as Charmed, Dynasty, 4400, In the Dark, Legacies, Naomi, and Roswell, New Mexico. And it was officially announced Thursday that Riverdale would come to an end after its upcoming seventh season. While Riverdale will have time to plot out its closing episode, some of the other favorites that met their abrupt ends with the mass series axing didn’t quite have that chance, but Pedowitz shared that it wasn’t the network’s intention to leave fans high and dry. The end is nigh for "Riverdale," and I'm not talking about Archie and the gang's impending apocalyptic showdown with the dashing, devilish menace that is Percival Pickens, either.
Per Variety, the very popular (and very weird) Archie Comics TV adaptation will come to an end in season 7. The news was made public along with The CW's 2022 fall schedule, with "Riverdale" set to debut its seventh and final batch of episodes mid-season in 2023. That also makes it the latest show to get the axe at the network, coming after the recent cancelations of the DC TV series "Batwoman," "Naomi," and "DC's Legends of Tomorrow," as...

CW boss Mark Pedowitz is well aware that the network’s unprecedented cancellation spree — which included Arrowverse series Batwoman (after three seasons) and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow (after seven seasons) — came as “a bit of a shock.” (Yeah, that’s an understatement.)
The younger-skewing network — which on Thursday confirmed that Riverdale would end after a proper seventh and final season — axed an additional seven series on May 12, including Charmed, Dynasty, 4400, In the Dark, Legacies, Naomi and Roswell, New Mexico.

During the CW’s primetime scheduling and strategy press conference, while addressing the end of “Riverdale” and the cancellation of several series such as “Legends of Tomorrow,” “Dynasty” and “Naomi,” Pedowitz said, “We encouraged all of those producers to try to treat their finales as if they could be series finales. We wanted to do the right thing by the series and by the fans.”
Pedowitz also indicated that “Riverdale” Season 7 would likely contain as many episodes as earlier seasons.
“We have not declared how many episodes yet. But I do...
