An insight to the complexity of Jules
glenn_gallagher24 January 2021
If your a fan of 'Euphoria' than you'll really like this . A monologue and rollercoaster ride of Jules' mind rolling up, down and doing twists. I'm not a millennial at all but enjoy the individuality the generation have to be who they want to be. Although very dark at times this episode displayed the complexity not only of Jules character but also a reflection of the actor Hunter Schafer and her pursuit of individuality. Cant wait for season 2 !!!

Exactly What Jules Needed
CulvertonSmith23 January 2021
Sam Levinson and Hunter Schafer have both done a fantastic job writing this episode, which gives a real insight into what Jules has been and currently is struggling with. The character has always been one of my favorites, but after watching this I genuinely felt that I had a much better understanding of her on a human level. Beautifully written, heart-wrenchingly presented, and expertly performed, this episode continues to prove that Euphoria has more stories and characters left to explore. I genuinely look forward to seeing what they are able to accomplish in the show's second season.

Warning: Spoilers
Goodness me man. This was just outstanding. Both of the specials have been so so so good, better than any of the normal run episodes. Just like Rue's episode, this delivered such a deep insight into Jules' very complex character. Not only was the dialogue superb and the pacing excellent, but the camerawork is impeccable and the cinematography is just sumptuous. Literally everything about this episode was crazy good. The sex scene that went a bit crazy near the end was ridiculously good. Honestly I hope season two is on the level that these specials are because these are really fantastic. Or else just keep making specials lmao

A surge of emotions. Opening it up with Lorde's Liability is a foreshadowing of how it's going to devastate your heart.

Masterpiece.
rafzwilliams23 January 2021
This is it. One of the best Euphoria episodes. I have been very skeptical of Jules's character before and her relationship with Rue, but now I get it. I feel like we really needed this episode to see how complex her character is. Such a layered character and brilliant writing. I loved how this episode acknowledged how good and bad Rue and Jules are to each other. Hunter Schafer is a class act! Mesmerizing performance and so happy to see she wrote the episode as well.

Mesmerizing
irinaratcu23 January 2021
There's something so enthralling in the way this episode is written and paced. Every gut wrenching moment cuts deep, every emotional beat hits its mark and every intimate tether is something like a gut punch leaving you with a feeling of unease. Rév's cinematography and Levinson's direction are brilliant as always but it's the two leading actresses' performances and undeniable chemistry that really set this show miles above anything else on television right now. The pieces fall into place so perfectly that it really makes you wonder where Hunter Schafer has been hiding all this time...

incredibly tactile

It feels like these are real people and that's the best feeling when watching a show. Every facial expression, gesture, movement, everything that Jules does feels so natural and part of the way she is. It's pretty cool that Hunter co-wrote the episode and it shows.

The Double Life of Jules
AlbertCinefilu24 January 2021
I've never conceived the though that I will ever see a Billie Eilish song and Van den Budenmayer from The Double Life of Veronique in the same series, let alone in the same episode after I've just listened to them recently. This is an astral coincidence.

This episode is my favorite of the series so far, being as character-driven, soul-crushing and packed with valuable life lessons as Rue's special episode, but with more dynamism, the typical ''Euphoria expressionism'' expressed through color and even suspense... all while exploring the other side of Jule's past and personality. Listening to Jules finally describing her perspective of the story felt so genuinely human and so satisfying story-wise. I am surprised that I didn't cry though I almost did towards the end of the episode.

Magnifique.

An 11 out of 10 from me.

The previous special episode was good but this one was AMAZING. It was so painful to see what Jules has been through. Excellent cinematography and i was so happy that this episodes soundtrack was BILLIE EILISH.

Touching
astred-8541925 January 2021
As a trans person I never expected a tv show to describe how I live or how our relationships and feelings work and how unique and different we're and how we love ourself yet we struggle with ourselves this episode just shoved all of it in 1 episode yet they interpreted it in a mesmerizing way and a part from that the acting and the cinematography and the soundtracks are on point like always it was INCREDIBLE

Very interesting episode
funnycommentor3 March 2022
First of all, I think all the characters deserve solo episodes. In my opinion, Jule's episode was way more interesting than Rue's episode. The psychological session idea was very interesting and prototype. The acting was amazing. Even though, it was an one-location episode, I didn't felt bored at all. Because, it was so interesting and emotional, sometimes. Those 2 special episodes were incredible and we need more!

Jules' mysteries
MiguelAReina27 January 2021
Nothing like a therapist to solve the narrative needs of a character. Easy script resource, especially in times of coronavirus, this episode reveals the mysteries of Jules and her difficulties in establishing a conventional relationship. But that mystery was the one that worked perfectly as a contrast to the character of Rue.

With a soundtrack that looks like a random Spotify playlist, where Zbigniew Preisner and Rosalía also have a place, the episode explains many things about Jules (an excellent interpretation of Hunter Schafer), perhaps too many things, trying to soften the vision that the character had offered at the end of the first season. A way to explain, according to Sam Levinson, the character, to justify her actions and to show another profile of a depressed "millennial" that could perfectly overshadow the main character if it were developed further in the second season (something that probably will not allow to do).

It is clear that "Euphoria" has a powerful visual style, elaborate and certainly "beautiful" aesthetically, but sometimes it falls into a certain superficiality. In this episode, the aesthetic is between the visual imagination of Gaspar Noé and the crudeness of Adrian Lyne's perfume advertisement. Without a doubt, it is an episode that reconciles the character with the followers of the show, but at the same time squanders the opportunity to build a bridge between the first and second seasons.

Beautiful, groundbreaking trans representation
jamiedaycox24 January 2021
I rarely write reviews, and when I do, I basically never rate something 10/10. Nothing is perfect, after all, so it's good to leave some room at the top. But this episode is beautiful, important inside and outside the show, something I've never seen before, and deserves a 10/10 as much as anything I've ever rated.

hunter schafer IS talent
ismaelfer200529 January 2021
I feel like this episode with jules perspective and stuff were actually so releasing. we never really understood jules and we even hesitated about if she loved rue or not. so making a whole episode on her perspective gave not only the character but the show some sort of realism and beauty that i didnt think any other character different than rue and nate could give. and specially not a character like jules who was actually like this sort of magical piece of the show and gave that vibe of fantasy and glittery that fulfilled the dark and twisted rue and her addiction. i am genuinely in love with hunter schafer in every single way. the TALENT of her is unmeasurable. im also really fond of sam levinson's job.

Borderline horror
benlongo-1933717 January 2022
Jules is my favorite character, so I may be biased. But there is a point in the episode where it felt like a psychological horror. Hunter's acting is truly terrific, please watch this if your a fan of the show.

Another masterpiece from Sam Levinson
UniqueParticle25 January 2021
A phenomenal Euphoria special all about Jules (Hunter Schaffer) releasing a lot of emotions and the phenomenal in between bits with Rue and Nate. Making me love Sam Levinson's craft even more; everything I've seen of his is masterful despite the extreme content! The sounds/music are incredibly transformative!

Poor story telling
childsdlc-9000926 January 2021
For me its a rule of thumb, if you are going to have a tell all therapist moment in a show, the therapist must be an incorporated character or one you plan on investing in later on in the show. Like Rue and Ali, or Tony and Jennifer in sopranos. Because otherwise its a copout. Its the author placing themselves into the story through this unknown and unnecessary character to force change, force realizations, force an interpersonal dialogue from a character. While this worked for Rue because her character as she has no problem talking about her troubled self, it does not work for Jules at all. She refused to talk to Rue about her issues, she adamantly avoided conversations with her father about issues, basically a staple characteristic she has is a reluctantly to deal with the emotional tole that comes with tragedy and issues in relationships.....so....to have a tell all discussion during the first meeting with her new therapist is breaking what I saw as a major rule of the character....scratch that...it avoided much needed progression to get Jules to a place where she doesnt run away, doesnt avoid, doesnt seek distraction from her traumas.... What we got in this episode was beautiful but undeserved and damaging to the story as a whole.

Jules's trauma was one of the few mysteries we had going into season 2, and they dished it out to us in a very cheap way.

Hunter apparently played a role in designing some of the key visuals of this episode and for me thats why its deserving of 4 stars instead of 1, she really did a great job incorporating some phenomenal visuals into this episode that work well with Jules.

I never write reviews
kikilangmore31924 January 2021
This show has been one of my all time favorites since the 4th episode. Somehow they step it up every episode. This is the most masterfully created and ambitious episode of the series and exceeded all expectations. I am THRILLED to see what Sam Levinson does next. And as for hunter schafer, she really brought a level of realism to it. I won't get into the specifics, I'll let you see for yourself!

my heart ached with this episode
briefexistance25 January 2021
First of all, the music in this episode was EXCELLENT. I really enjoyed Lorde, Rosalia & Billie Eilish together and the best part of it: 2 songs from Krzysztof Kieslowski´s Double life of veronica and Three colors: red!!!!!!! I loved specially the tribute in the last scene with the window and the rain. Besides music it was masterfully written (in which Hunter Schafer collaborated with Sam Levinson), beautiful cinematography, superb acting showing the fractured relationship with rue, the individual heartbreaking pain each of them are going through because of their story, background showing in mental illnesses and addiction omg I just want them to be together, be happy, be clean :´(

Jules Story

The script was brilliant, audience finally get to view the Jules story and fill in the blanks for some of the major questions & behaviour aspects of Jules in Season one. Brilliantly acted & artistically directed, the soundtrack was perfect. It truly sets up for the next season.

Perfect Episode for Jules
westonmcelhaney24 January 2021
The editing, cinematography, and screenplay was brilliant as usual. Sam Levinson is amazing but Hunter Schafer added much nuance to Jules's character; I loved how they flashed back to season one and gave us Jules' perspective on certain pivotal moments. This was one of my favorite episodes of the whole series! Hunter Schafer as Jules is NEXT LEVEL. She's incredible!

EPH FBL REVIEW
Gevacu11112 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
(8.0) I was a real fan of the previous special episode. It added so much to the series as a whole, and it was led by a pair of great actors. In this case, there's only Hunter to lead the episode. Don't get me wrong, she does a great job, and truly makes you feel what she's feeling. But the fact it's only her and her therapist, makes it more of an introspective episode without much direction. Yes, it serves as great development for Jules, but it overstays its welcome. I would have liked it more with 15 minutes less, but it still was enjoyable to watch. Mainly because of the attachment you might have after watching the first season. At the end of the day, it serves as a great standout for the Jules character, giving insight into the way she is and why she acts the way she does, but in terms of pacing is quite lacking if not detrimental to the episode.
