Unnecessary and unprovoked violence. Not quite sure what the story was trying to portray.

Unnecessary violence

An unflinching view of racism and bullying

This film was written by Limerick's William Casey, who raps under the name Willzee. It won the Virgin Media Discovers Short Film Competition, out of 600 entries. The subject is the rampant discrimination against the Traveller community, and the toxic environment this creates. Beautifully shot, directed, and acted, with amazing sound design. Well worth 12 minutes of your time, especially if this world is unknown to you. The emotional pitch is high, with strong racist language throughout.
Well worth watching

Saw this on the Virgin player which is currently showcasing new Irish shorts. It is well acted, shot and edited. Part of me wanted it to go on for longer, but not every film needs a happy or tidy ending.
I was very moved by it. Being Irish and having taught some lads who were travellers, I of course knew of the abuse the community faces, but this story still affected me greatly, Particularly fine acting from the man playing the father in my opinion. If I was still teaching, I would be making sure my classes watched this.
The review mentioning unnecessary violence missed the point. Perhaps the reviewer was unaware of the discrimination the traveller community faces in Ireland.
