May be disturbing first segment, but don't stop

The Hunter has taken all the characters except the Warners, and he plans to mount them on a wall. Don't stop, because the Pinky and the Brain segment was great. Great plot, and Ralph cam is also pretty funny. This episode is one of my favorites.

The 2020 reboot of 'Animaniacs' proved to be better than expected and not as pointless as feared. It is inconsistent and nowhere near as the original 'Animaniacs', but all the previous four episodes were more than watchable (none great though). Though inevitably the segments were a mix of brilliant (all the 'Pinky and the Brain' segments), decent if unexceptional and not making the grade. "Good Warner Hunting"/"No Brainer"/"Ralph Cam" sounded interesting, though one of the segments had a disturbing subject that could have gone either way.

"Good Warner Hunting"/"No Brainer"/"Ralph Cam" turned out to be pretty great, the first great one and the first one where all the segments worked in their own way (even the one that didn't sound particularly interesting conceptually). Not to mention the first one to be true to old school 'Animaniacs' throughout the entire episode rather than being so in one or two segments and not so much in the others. Not perfect by all means, but found myself liking it a lot.

Is the episode perfect? Probably not. "Good Warner Hunting" does go a little too far in showing how disturbing a hunter's thought process is, which may (big emphasis on may) disturb younger viewers.

Having said that, the segment is still full of energy, is witty, is funny and smart and the character writing for the Warners is not simplistic, smug or inconsistent this time. If anything, this is the first episode up to this early stage of the reboot where their character writing was reminiscent of the old school 'Animaniacs'. The hunter is also one of the best and most memorable of the show's too few supporting characters.

Was very surprised by "Ralph Cam" too. That didn't sound interesting on paper and the story is slight, but it is lively and very amusing. The best segment is "No Brainer", continuing the trend so far of the 'Pinky and the Brain' segments being the highlights of all the episodes. The setting was done cleverly and affectionately while also being remarkably true in spirit to to the segments in the original in atmosphere and writing and the two characters were clearly written by writers that understood the characters and loved them (especially Brain). Also loving their chemistry.

There are many elements that all three segments have in common in a good way. The animation is bright and beautifully detailed with some suitably wild expressions in faces, eyes and body language, despite preferring the bolder and more traditional look. The music fits well and while it may not enhance the action it adds to it in a way that's appealing and accessible. The theme tune is hip and catchy. The voice acting, done by some of the best and most prolific voice actors in the business now and ever, is impeccable. It was a masterstroke bringing the voice actors back and the right thing to do. Cannot for instance imagine Brain being voiced by somebody other than Maurice La Marche.

Very impressive episode overall and the first great episode in a show where there were not enough of those. 9/10.

Some purests were put off by the disturbing implications of the hunter, but this is the first episode of the reboot that felt like a perfectly old school episode. The first few were great, but this was old school "Character has something against the Warner's so they troll the living bajeezus out of him". Fast paced and constantly funny Warner torture. The Greek games but was close but this one really stuck the landing. So good!
