Look, I don't mind a political opinion in movies/TV here or there as long as it's subtle. This show has shoved its political opinion down my throat every single episode so far. I don't need these stupid cartoons telling me to dislike guns and Trump good lord

Subtle!? Seriously, dude?

Warning: Spoilers
Another review here is griping about lack of subtlety in an animaniacs cartoon. JFC, my eyes just rolled into my lower intestines. Also, if you think subtlety is what's going to get a message supporting sanity across to gun loving "patriotic" tRump cult members, I just can't even.

Expectations were very mixed for this 'Animaniacs' reboot. The original 'Animaniacs' is one of my favourite animated shows and a favourite overall. Likewise with 'Pinky and the Brain' (not the case with its spin off 'Pinky, Elmyra and the Brain'). Part of me was interested to see how they would work in a contemporary setting, but much of me also questioned its point because it didn't sound necessary to me as can be the case with a lot of reboots.
All three of the previous episodes were uneven, each with one brilliant segment and the others varying between good and average. They were enjoyable and better than expected though, and same goes with the reboot in general. "Bun Control"/"Ex Mousina"/"Bloopf" is again uneven, with one great segment and the others in this case being rather just okay but not much more. It does have enough things to make it worth watching, but am not jumping out of my chair.
Once again, the Pinky and the Brain segment "Ex Mousina" is by far the best. Very true in spirit to the original show in the zaniness and wit, as well as the intelligence, and Pinky and especially Brain are nailed in characterisation. Love their chemistry too and Brain's plan is classic Brain once more if not one of his most ingenious.
"Bloopf" is quite fun, the characters are in character and zany and the idea was great. More could have been done with it though and it doesn't say much new, those not as familiar with apps may get more out of this.
Was not too crazy about "Bun Control" and am another person who found it too heavy handed with the referencing. Yes it is agreed that it is relevant today, at the same time there are viewers that want to feel entertained and relaxed and just for 25 minutes or so once in a while to distract oneself from this unsettling time instead of being preached at.
Lots of things work incredibly well individually. The animation is bright and beautifully detailed with some suitably wild expressions in faces, eyes and body language, despite preferring the bolder and more traditional look. The music fits well and while it may not enhance the action it adds to it in a way that's appealing and accessible. The theme tune is hip and catchy. The voice acting, done by some of the best and most prolific voice actors in the business now and ever, is impeccable. It was a masterstroke bringing the voice actors back and the right thing to do. Cannot for instance imagine Brain being voiced by somebody other than Maurice La Marche.
Overall, another inconsistent episode but above average thanks to "Ex Mousina". 6/10.
