Really liked the story ideas for both "The Monster of Phineas-N-Ferbenstein" and "Oil on Candace". Especially the former, the concept of spoofing the timeless story of Frankenstein and his monster is not a new one and has been done many times in animation but it has never felt repetitive and the best examples have been quite imaginative. The latter didn't feel as inspired conceptually, but was a classic 'Phineas and Ferb' scenario in a good way.

Both episodes in execution fare extremely well. While "Oil on Candace" has a huge amount to enjoy and succeeds in pretty much nearly every area, "The Monster of Phineas-N-Ferbenstein" is brilliant and one of my favourites of the show. This is how to do an episode inspired by a very popular and oft-adapted story and not just have a classic 'Phineas and Ferb' spin on it but also a unique horror atmosphere without it being too dark.

There is very little to complain about here, though the pace in "Oil on Candace" is occasionally a little too manic.

Cannot fault "The Monster of Phineas-N-Ferbenstein" however. The animation in both episodes is vibrant in colour and rich in background detail, complete with some imaginative little touches in the whole of "The Monster of Phineas-N-Ferbenstein". Everything centered around the art in "Oil on Candace" is far from wasted and is made the most of. The music is groovy and catchy, with relatable lyrics and the ever clever title sequence. Here the theme music is given a unique treatment in the very atmospheric opening of "The Monster of Phineas-N-Ferbenstein".

All the writing throughout is accessible, smart and very funny, with a lot of lines in both episodes making me laugh out loud. The storytelling is compelling and lots of fun throughout, especially in "The Monster of Phineas-N-Ferbenstein" with its hauntingly affectionate atmosphere and a clear love for horror and the story. The main plot with Phineas, Ferb and Candace parodying the main characters in the original story in roles that suit them and their personalities perfectly is huge fun and suitably spooky and the Perry and Doofenschmirtz subplot, loosely based on Dr Jekyll is also wildly entertaining and different to their usual subplots. Of their subplots in the episodes, this one stands out even more and is very unique by their standards. Their chemistry is a sheer delight in both subplots.

Every character in both episodes are nailed, Dr Jekyll was a great addition to "The Monster of Phineas-N-Ferbenstein" and Phineas and Ferb's willingness to help a friend in "Oil on Candace" was very heart-warming to see. The voice acting is excellent, particularly from Dan Povenmire.

Overall, while hugely enjoying "Oil on Candace" "The Monster of Phineas-N-Ferbenstein" is a 'Phineas and Ferb' classic. 9/10

"The Monster of Phineas-n-Ferbenstein"

Even though our main characters are not in the episode that much, they are replaced with their equally funny, optimistic and lovable ancestors (or at least Ferbs' ancestor and the rest of the characters' lookalikes). Still, the episode could've used one more rewrite to make it funnier.

"Oil on Candace"

The episode is sweet and Doofenshmirtz's song's pretty good. Sadly, the best word to describe this episode is "irrelevant." It has some laughs but it has nothing to do with the rest of the series. The main character here, Django, doesn't speak again until his one line near the end of the final season in the episode 'Inator Method.'
