Much of this involves the aftermath of Norman's death. How can the show go one without him? Rumors? Anyway, there are some very strange eulogies, especially from the children, one of whom is going to the Galapagos. Sandy continues going with his cancer diagnosis, including a quicky with a Russian neighbor after he finds her dog. She is a skilled worker. There is something ragged about this one, but Norman is missing and the byplay between the boys.

Yes, we all know that, at the beginning, something is missing. But just keep watching because things happen and new wonderful characters appear.
There are very little TV shows nowadays that are deep and brilliant. But The Kominsky Method, with its stellar leading casting, is awesome. It will make you laugh and cry, and think about life, death, love, and art.
I watched this third and (sadly) last season in only 2 days (and I ever hardly watch TV shows -what I love is cinema). I couldn't stop! The writing is great and Michael Douglas, Kathleen Turner, and Paul Reiser are absolutely fantastic! Thanks a lot for creating some art! 10/10.

Come on, people. This season opener was hilarious -- one of the best comedy episodes ever.
I had to watch it twice to catch all the jokes. Kudos to the writers and all the actors who certainly delivered their lines perfectly.

Most uneven transition

I am watching all the three series in a go and from the last episode of the second season - which I watched just yesterday - to this one, it was a most abrupt transition.
For me, yesterday Norman was alive and well, getting to know his weird Scientology's grandson who had stolen one million from the church (loose end). Phoebe had just started to make amends and Lisa was - maybe - selling her house.
Today, Norman's gone, his girlfriend Madelyn made a weird eulogy speech and turned out to be mentally unbalanced (didn't see that coming), Lisa is out of the picture and Martin is playing a sub-rate Norman role to the Sandy main character.
Worst of all, the whole episode was not funny at all because it lost the self-deprecating, realistic humour that made it so special. Now the jokes are over the top or standard and cliche (such as the Russian hooker).

For two seasons, I was entertained by two aging men that suffered from the facts of life...prostate issues, retirement, relationships, loss of a spouse, memory lapses, and so much more. It was comedy gold. Then suddenly, without warning, one of those two dies. For me, that ruined the show. The dynamic that made it great was gone. Norman is gone. Lisa is gone. It's a totally different show now, and while it still has some great moments, I'm afraid it's lost its appeal. I'll see it through to the end, but I'm already finding myself nodding off in the middle of episodes now.

Although it ends the same, there IS a difference between a TV show regular dying and an actor leaving the show, suddenly. There's simply no flow from season 2 to 3 with such an important character dying.
And it's obvious right off the bat that what's Alan Arkin's loss is Paul Reiser's gain, since he's the new Norman here. And he just doesn't have the natural chops like Arkin. He seems to be doing an imitation of an old Jewish guy.
Either way this is not a good start. The Arkin memories drag and being this is the final season, it simply makes no sense for an actor to leave the show at this point with only eight episodes left.
Then again, this IS Netflix. They wrote off Kevin Spacey on HIS OWN SHOW so, this is nothing comparably.

Ok, the third season keeps the same brilliant dialogues between the lovable and smart characters, it is still mostly the same, but for one big difference: what happened with Arkin? I mean, Norman suddenly died in the biggest hole and break of continuity I've ever seen in a show.
All the characters are great, but they cannot fill up the lack of Norman, he was the perfect counterpart to Kominsky. Boys, it hurt to begin the third season with such a loss.
Sadly, in the third season the show was the same, but at the same time was not the same anymore. The loss of Alan Arkin was too heavy.

The scriptwriters made a complete hash of what could have been a brilliant opening to the 3rd season. Yes, I get that some of it is MEANT to be awkward but there's awkward, and then there's just plain bad.
Let's also not forget that this series is meant to entertain, to be funny, candid and often tongue in cheek.
This episode is not.

What Happened

The first season was a 10 - a very rare rating for me to administer. Second second a 8 - very good. This new season, terrible, not funny and little to connect with. All my wife and I said when we looked at one another half way through the first episode was "what happened?"
