I watched the last episode. It was very emotional. I rated it low because of the outcome of the tension and suspense brought to us in the previous 9 episodes. It seems like more were created from the new outcomes of the previous problems in the characters lives.
People that have been deceptive start saying the truth like Hannah and no one believes it. Hannah tells the police her son is alive and Charlie is the dead baby that was poisoned but the cops don't believe it and Mrs. Bronowski takes the blame, won't tell the truth and in her last hours is not sorry for burying a baby the parents do not know is dead and does not even repent. When she is prayed for before her death she even rejects that. She justified everything she did. She thinks she is a hero and did nothing wrong because of her sad life in Poland so this gesture makes everything right.
Major Harry talks to Isabel's aunt and threatens a lawsuit if she stops the marriage, he is a womanizer and dishonest and seems to win in the end.
Murder charges against Ned is dropped but now he is a soldier and will get sent to Somalia and not be able to stay at Berkeley Square with his love Nanny Matty.
It ends with a nice parade but most of the characters do not have a happy ending.
It seems evil and deception wins out.
This series was very hard for me to watch. Very sad situations, jumping from one emotional sad scene to the next.
Some of the characters who wanted to do the right thing did not. When they did do the right thing most situations did not change, it was too late.
Honorable characters were Matty, Lydia, Nanny Collins, Mr Fowler and maybe a few more.
Dishonorable characters--> the parents to the 3 different families who did not spend time with their children the St. Johns, the Hutchinsons and Lamson-Scribener. Charlie Hutchinson is dead and his parents did not even know this baby was not there in their house anymore and that he died from being poisoned by Nanny Simmons. The Hutchinsons also had a previous baby girl die.
The acting was good. The suspense was good the stories were interesting but the outcomes were bad. In another interview I made a statement that the writer had to be a sadist. I stick by that statement. Nothing really good came out of watching this series with deceitful people, mean people, liars adulterers, fathers that are harsh on their children and wimps with their wife get rewarded.
I am glad they did not go on for a second season.
