Jane is asked to clear his former psychiatrist
Tweekums17 October 2017
Warning: Spoilers
When a neuroscientist is poisoned in front of a crowded lecture theatre his ex-wife, who is also his research partner is the prime suspect. As it happened at a State University the crime comes under the possible jurisdiction of the CBI; Jane asks Lisbon for them to take the case as the accused has contacted him… she was the psychiatrist who helped Jane after the murder of his wife and child. Jane is convinced she is innocent and it soon looks as if he must be right when a group of animal rights terrorists came responsibility and promise further attacks if the research, which involves animals, isn't halted… unfortunately this isn't a great lead as the group turns out to be one man and his cats! There are other possibilities though; especially when we learn the nature of the research being undertaken.

This was another solid episode; partly because of the enjoyable central mystery but also because we learn more about Jane's past. So often in fiction a character has suffered a loss at the hands of a killer but rarely do we see that it had a psychological effect other than creating a desire for revenge; here we see that Jane was driven almost to the point of suicide by what happened. The research being undertaken does look a bit sci-fi but the resolution explains it is a way that makes clear that it doesn't work as hoped… it also provides an excuse for a great finale where the killer is exposed. There are a good number of suspects and the identity of the killer is far from obvious… I certainly didn't suspect the person who is ultimately exposed! Overall an impressive episode.

The Psychiatrist

When Patrick Jane receives a call from his former psychiatric Sophie Miller relative to the murder of her former husband and fellow scientist Alex Nelson at a symposium in the Leyland State University, he convinces Lisbon to assume the investigation. They investigate all the people involved in the case and learns that the scientists are researching a project to re-calibrate the brain for moral that has failed but has not been disclosed to the sponsor Professor Stutzer. Who might be the killer?

'Red Brick and Ivy" is another good episode of "The Mentalist". The plot has many twists and the beauty of Elisabeth Röhm are the great attraction of this great show. My vote is seven.

Enjoyable entry in the series...POSSIBLE SPOILER AHEAD...

Warning: Spoilers
Baffling murders, some sharp detective work, someone committing a crime that is traced to a worker who wanted to save the reputation of a clinic from being exposed as fraudulent--and SIMON BAKER as "The Mentalist" who devises a way to make the guilty party confess.

Well done mysteries benefit from good acting from the entire cast. Simon Baker makes an attractive lead as the man who admits to having been under a psychiatrist's care when he had a nervous breakdown. He exhibits the ability to see through other people's fears and weaknesses and Baker plays the role with dexterity and an ambiguous sort of charm.

Nicely produced series with good production values and intriguing story ideas.
