S01Ep16 - "Bloodline"

Warning: Spoilers
S01EP16 - "Bloodline" - Darken Rahl pardons Mistress Denna for her earlier favour and sends the Mord'Sith out once more, this time to capture Jennsen.

The actress who portrayed Denna reported that her version of the Mord'Sith costume (which was substantially reworked in season two in order to allow Tabrett Bethell to portray "Cara" in a far more action-oriented style) prevented her from even sitting down. In this episode, she stands and exudes menace.

We find the Seeker's mother and general mayhem ensues. We also have an homage to Star Wars with a "I am your grandfather" moment which is far-better acted and far more plausible than the Darth Vader version.

Some excellent (yet not OTT) special effects add to the impressive visuals of this episode, which features quite a lot of night work. The story rattles along at a fair pace, with several twists, turns and revelations. There is a nice parable on the subject of "absolute power corrupts absolutely". I enjoyed it.

But never trust a Mord'Sith! Jessica Marais works hard and really owns the Denna character in this episode - setting a bar which only Cara in season two exceeded.

LIttle too much of a Fairy Tale
qck19 March 2013
This is a frustrating series. Richard Cypher is consistently unable to make the hard decision. For personal reasons he is unable to make the hard decision, the good of the many for the few. He is extremely naive. Considering the threat of Darken Rahl, the number of people that suffer every day that he lives, allowing him to continue is much more evil than a few lives.. It is only pure luck that things turn out alright. There seems to be a lot of this in television programs, fairy tales. I was a pretty good series, but probably failed because of the weak story lines, it only survived two seasons. However, it this respect if is somewhat consistent with the books it is based on by Terry Goodkind.
