This episode was kinda confusing, I don't know why they had all these weird unnecessary plot points? It does however set a pretty good foundation for the episodes to come.

Enjoy
sing200929 October 2021
I enjoyed season 1 and just watched 2 epi's of season 2. It's still enjoyable to me. Other people may have different taste and that's ok but what really gets on my nerves are the whiners who are complaining about woke this and woke that, meaning they hate inclusion, and use negative terms such as political sewer unless it's in their favor and then it's just politics. They just want everything straight, white, nice and neat. They have a hard time acknowledging those who differ from them, who also live amongst them and deserve representation in the entertainment business as well as anywhere else. It's a sad shame.

Okay

This show is (for me) a bit of brainless escapism. I've seen better-written and better-acted fantasy shows, but this is perfectly adequate.

The people whining about woke could do with a bit of waking up themselves. Especially the reviewer that said there was no hint Duncan was gay, he mentioned his partner Brian at least twice last season....

This show is missing so much
dwuudz-357752 November 2021
I completely wrote this show off after the first season, but decided to give it another chance when the second season came out. Locke and Key has so much potential, yet for some reason I just cannot suspend my "disbelief" while watching the show. The writing just isn't good enough.

For instance, "Gabe" is actually Dodge right? So does that mean that Dodge is going to high school, for months on end, and apparently doing the schoolwork as well?

There are so many little things like that in this show and it drives me insane because it is SUCH lazy writing. This is coming from someone who watches a lot of fantasy/fiction so I understand that sometimes you have to shrug questions off, but in "Locke and Key" nearly every single scene feels completely illogical.

The irony of it is that explaining these mundane details (or really any details at all), would actually go a LONG way towards building the characters.

The Splattering!!!
wandernn1-81-68327429 July 2023
This season begins with the movie club making their own movie, The Splattering! Haha. I love seeing Admiral Souther (Martin Roach) from the expanse in this.

All the people seem to be trying to figure out what to do next. The family is starting back to senior year of high school. Gabe and his hot demon cohort get themselves a lair.

Gabe continues his plots to try to get more keys from the KeyHouse.

Bodie seems way too eager to share the keys with Gabe and actually gives Gabe the Ghost Key. Gabe learns the secret behind forging his own key.

This ep gets a 6/10.

Bodie was way too much of a dupe to just cater to Gabe's whim with the keys.

Good start

I've been enjoying this so far. It isn't the most brilliant show ever, but it's pretty good.

I've been reading the other reviews, and find it funny how predictable how the anti-woke police are. Uncle Duncan was openly gay last season, speaking comfortably about needing to get home to his partner Brian. This isn't new; they just weren't paying attention, I guess.

What a disappointment
dtavasso-907-69134713 November 2021
Moving beyond the great source material, the writers have turned this into a high school teen drama with unnecessary gore, a bunch of uncalled for "modern" clichés while the keys are just played for laughs (this one makes Bodie strong, haha).

Frustrating Watch
rjgrund-123-60343831 October 2021
The writing so far this season is killing me. Is there a ghost key for that? Maybe a mind key to change my memory? This is going to be rough season. Rough. If I didn't like the characters so much I would quit now.

Terrible
jeroen-10624 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
They're melting iron, and magically gemeente a key in return, all without having the cast or blueprint of the key's design.

Also, does the magic automatically work when a key is in (roughly) the right design?

Can you arbitrarily make up new magic by designing something a certain way? Control pigs by making a key in the shape of a curly tail?

This show is fading quickly.

I'll give it a chance because Season 1 was good...
jtb4411 November 2021
...but they're making it hard for me to keep going with this. All the same concerns other people have noted and a new one all of my own: casting directors need to stop choosing people who cannot do the accent they're supposed to have. Or get someone in and say "does that sound English?" because the answer is almost always "no!" and it's ghastly.

What a surprise, wokeness abound.
rgdavidson0135 November 2021
The imaginative storyline is still there but I'm not even halfway through the 2nd episode and they have thrown in an interracial gay relationship, mention of a lesbian relationship and they have used the word mansplaining. Enjoy that's your thing.

Woke
noelbrooksbank8 November 2021
Lack of structure, I got lost at times as to what was going on.

Also it's wokness got in the way of what could have been a really good season.

"Mansplaining".

Also! Why is there so much swearing in this series???

Boring First Episode!
alcyoneartemis26 October 2021
First season was great and when it ended you were hanging out for more. Then season two came and first episode was boring, woke and lots of plot points all over the place, very disappointing.

Well that's a change.

Warning: Spoilers
Enjoyed seasons 1 for the most part but Netflix gonna Netflix. Somehow this series evaded the woke monitors there and they clearly got the mandat to fix that. The uncle, who was in the first season, shows up again here and immediately we see he's gay. No hint of that last season. And even better, his fiancé is black so we are definitely making up for it.

Good for them I guess? Anyhow another......odd scene is we here thumping in the house only to find out the youngest is trying to move a couch through a doorway by himself (because he found a key that gives him super strength) but it doesn't fit and for some reason he keeps trying to ram it through. Clearly we supposed to see the "fun" of the scenario of a kid lifting a couch by himself but all I could think was "hey stupid, how about turning the couch for a different angle or something?" No he just hits the doorway about a dozen times. There is magic in this show so maybe he thought it would magically get wider? Whatever.

Anyhow, one episode in season 2 and it's clear to see we're done. Hopefully we'll see Netflix let a show be what it needs to be and not push its agenda onto it forcing awkward pacing.

Why?
ajwiiiaw25 October 2021
Why did you have to ruin a very good show by going into the political sewer? The story of the keys is incredibly fun but now of course you have to try to be inclusive because of cancel culture and woke nonsense. Stop it and get back to what made this interesting to start with.

Sad
AWall8826 October 2021
This show was a great family show in season 1. We watched it with our young children, and it was cheesy, and not great, but by far the best show that our 8 and 4 year old wanted to watch.

I feel like the makers of the show didn't want a tv-14 rating in the 1st season, but they were stuck with it, so they decided they might as well go all out for the highschooler/college-age crowd... but that ruined it for us and our now 9 and 5 (and 3) year old, unfortunately.

(Update after reading other reviews) My review isn't about the "political" aspects or the "wokeness." I didn't see an issue on that side of things. It's about the violence, overt sexuality, and profanity.

Woke trash.
davedemerchant24 July 2022
Signature Netflix show, they get green lit for a second season, then they shove woke ideas down our throats. Absolutely disgusting practice. Alphabet club characters can be a great addition if done well, but the Netflix writers only seem to write pathetic 2D characters meant to annoy a percentage of their audience.

Riverdale trash
ryanpatrickway13 August 2022
This episode was a huge letdown. This season opener seemed to take a turn towards a Riverdale Woke hybrid that wasn't worth watching. Very disappointing.
