Very funny with 1 exception

This Season 2 premiere episode was very entertaining with some real hilarious bits and I was so glad the show was back. It's a daffy show written with intelligence and with excellent acting. That's how I felt until 2/3 in when we are reintroduced to Karen. This actress in this show sticks out like a bad haircut at a beauty pageant. Why is she here? Is she related to a producer or married to Hugh Laurie? Didn't like her in last season either but she's somehow worse this season and aged like 20 years. Take her out and you've got a real winner that I can't wait to watch. Leave her in and the show dips down to a tolerable 7.

Why... why did I do this to myself?

I saw the first season sometime in 2020, what I remember about it is not much anymore. I still remember a number of actors, the beginning of the story and the humor that is not entirely mine.

So one evening where I have nothing else to watch, I decide to watch season 2.

I'll be up and running again in a few minutes. The negative thoughts, annoyances and irritations returned. I can honestly say, despite the underlying concept of a ship going hopelessly off course and surviving against all odds, the humor is still not my cup of tea.

Actors do a fine job, given the script they have to work with. I also believe that it has been worked on with a lot of love, but it leads me to my greatest irritation The biggest flaw, and this is something that always bothers me, whatever series or movie it is, is the incessive moving camera. That thing really doesn't stop moving for a moment. It is not that I get motion sickness, but it is exhausting to watch. I am really tired after watching the episode.

For me the reason not to finish this season. I can't remember why I watched season 1.

The series was canceled after this season, which was one season too late.

Warning: Spoilers
Two and half years ago, when the first season of "Avenue 5" aired I reviewed each episode. I felt that when the season was bad, the show was truly awful, though it picked up a little towards the end of the run. Reading back the review I wrote for that last episode, I suggested that the show should do more of the good and less of the bad, particularly I noted it should jettison the Earth-bound aspect and focus on the ship. Unfortunately, based on this first episode, that doesn't seem to be the case.

Months later, with supplies beginning to dwindle, Captain Clark (Hugh Laurie) has still not made the passengers aware of their true situation and they believe they will be home in a month, and not eight years. Frank (Andy Buckley) has become quite the on-ship star thanks to his cookery show but his wife, Karen (Rebecca Front) has been in hiding as Frank told her the passengers were furious at her for causing the delay. On Earth, Iris (Suzy Nakamura) tries to increase awareness of the plight of the ship, but soon runs up against Lucas Sato (Arsher Ali) a Government official here to take over.

I mean, it's been so long since the first season I can barely remember anything that happened in it, so it might as well be a new show again. I will say that the negative feelings I felt about that first season soon came back though. It's such a . . . Noisy show, just shrill unlikable characters circling each other with a semi improvised style that doesn't suit it. Occasionally, Hugh Laurie does work in some sort of put down that's reasonably amusing, but they're few and far between.

Were Lenora Critchlow and Rebecca Front's American accents always this bad?

I'm going to keep going, but it's more that I've started to review each episode, than any actual appreciation of the show.
