Peace Sells... but Who's Buying?
ttapola6 October 2010
Warning: Spoilers
The twenty-sixth episode I've watched highlights the most interesting aspect of The Hills. This happens when Spencer's sister Stephanie goes to Lauren to apologize her earlier behavior and they put their past aside and start anew. Now, since this *isn't* a scripted drama where the writer decides what Stephanie's actions are, and whether she can be trusted or not (something which Lauren discusses with her friends), but a reality show, there comes an added level to consider: Stephanie is a real human being. She is aware she is in a reality show. *Not* apologizing would make her seem immature and unsympathetic. So, does her knowledge of being seen by millions of people affect her decision? This would be a really interesting thing to find out.

Sadly, since this *is* a reality show, Stephanie and Lauren's peace comes across just as mundane as a similar event in any viewer's life would be. The drama stops and the show becomes dull. Were this a scripted drama, the writer would have devised something engaging, but in the reality we are watching, nothing like it happens. At least in this episode.
