Episode 1 is entitled "Tabula Rasa" in which SA Emily (Em) Byrne is apparently trying to make a fresh start on her life. Still shell-shocked from her period in brutal captivity and from the shocking death of Alice, Em is now on permanent leave. On the surface, she is devoting her life to protecting her son Flynn. Em's brother, Dr. Jack, is still grieving the loss of the extremely busy Alice, with whom he was having an affair.
Em has moved back in with SA Nick Durand, now a widower due to the death of Alice. Nick is investigating a series of brutal murders in Dorchester. When asked to reveal his source by his supervisor, Special Agent Julianne Gunnarsen, Nick declines in order to protect his source's anonymity. Gunnarsen also reminds Nick that he has failed to attend all of his mandated counseling sessions.
Em accompanies Nick to the old warehouse at the Garneau Industrial Park, where they discover a group of organ-harvesters at work. Nick believes that this is the tip of the iceberg on a nefarious ring.
Behind the scenes, Em has been investigating SA Gunnarsen, whom she believes may have been involved in suspicious activity when Gunnersen gunned down Alice in cold blood. A special place in her garage is devoted to Em's investigative work.
When Nick's source gets spooked and flees the café, Nick races outside only to be surprised by two goons who beat him senseless. When Nick alerts Em, she calls Cal, a trusted FBI colleague to meet her at her home. But when Em arrives, the home has been ransacked. Em is surprised by a masked man, a struggle ensues, and she is stabbed in the side.
With young Flynn away on a swim trip with his new swim coach, Rizzo, whom Em believes is suspicious, everyone seems to be spooked!
