Jennifer Aniston delivered another star-powered performance in the new season of Apple TV’s flagship series, “The Morning Show.” The series follows the behind-the-scenes drama of a morning TV show in the US, with co-anchors Alex Levy (Aniston) and Bradley Jackson (Reese Witherspoon) at the center of events.
The latest season (season three) depicts Alex quite literally heading into space while she tussles with Jon Hamm‘s tech mogul as a media merger for her show’s network, Uba, bubbles away. Aniston proved herself a master of comedy with “Friends” and here shows, once again, that she has the dramatic acting chops to equal her comedic skills. Aniston is captivating every time she’s on-screen and it’s a delight to see her in one of the meatiest roles of her career, as noted by critics.

Twenty years ago, Rachel (Jennifer Aniston) got off the plane. “Friends” concluded its 10-season run on Thursday, May 6, 2004, with “The Last One,” its two-part series finale that drew 52.5 million viewers and remains the fifth most-watched series finale in U.S. history.
A lot has happened in the 20 years since the Emmy-winning sitcom went off the air. “Joey” came and went. “Friends” remains in syndication — and its enduring popularity means it’ll outlive all of us — but it has found a new generation of fans on streaming, first on Netflix and now on Max, to where the series moved when the streamer launched in 2020.
In 2021, the six stars — Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer — reunited for the Emmy-nominated Max special “Friends: The Reunion.” Five months after the special aired, James Michael Tyler, who played Gunther, died at 59 from prostate cancer. Jennifer Aniston is looking to produce a reimagining of the glass-breaking, female driven 1980 comedy 9 to 5. Juno Oscar winner Diablo Cody is writing and Aniston will produce under her Echo Films label with Kristin Hahn.
Directed by Colin Higgins and starring Dolly Parton, Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda, the movie followed three female office employes who turn the tables on their sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot boss played by Dabney Coleman. The pic was a huge blockbuster back in the day grossing over $103M.
The movie was nominated for an original song Oscar for Parton’s title theme song. The song went platinum and was also nominated for four Grammy Award nominations, winning Best Country Song and Best Country Vocal Performance.
The movie was spun off into an ABC sitcom of the same name in 1982-1983, as well as a 2008 Broadway musical which earned four Tony nominations. Recently there...

The film is currently in development, with Diablo Cody working on the latest draft of the “9 to 5” reimagining. Plot details are being kept under wraps.

Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, Dolly Parton and Dabney Coleman starred in the 1980 office satire, directed by Colin Higgins and written by Patricia Resnick. The hit comedy film spawned a sitcom of the same name, which aired on ABC from 1982 to 1983, and in first-run syndication from 1986 to 1988. Goodbye HBO Max, hello Max. Warner Bros. Discovery announced several weeks back that the company was dropping the "HBO" from the name of its flagship streaming service, and that day has come. What does that mean for you, the subscriber? For one, it means a lot more movies and TV shows will be streaming in 4K, and the list of initial titles is pretty impressive. There are, however, a few caveats.
Those who wish to watch movies like "2001: A Space Odyssey" and "Argo" in Ultra HD will need to be subscribed to the new tier offered by Max called "Ultimate Ad-Free." This goes for $19.99 per month and includes access to the service's library of 4K movies and TV shows. There is also a plan with ads for $9.99 per month and a regular ad-free plan for $15.99 per month. Sudheer Sirivara, Global Technology Platform for Warner Bros. Discovery, had this to...

Could he be any more sorry? Matthew Perry has announced that he will remove his seemingly odd, random and uncalled for Keanu Reeves bashing from future printings of his memoir.
Speaking at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books event, Perry admitted yet again that he made a seriously bad call of judgment by wishing Reeves ill will in his 2022 book, “Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing.” “I said a stupid thing. It was a mean thing to do…I pulled his name because I live on the same street…I’ve apologized publicly to him. Any future versions of the book will not have his name in it.”
The move comes after Perry rightly received backlash for the following statement in the book: “It always seems to be the really talented guys who go down. Why is it that the original thinkers like River Phoenix and Heath Ledger die,...

Jennifer Aniston recently opened up about how comedy has changed in the decades since Friends aired.
While promoting her upcoming film Murder Mystery 2, Aniston explained that comedy is more complicated today than it used to be.
“Now it’s a little tricky because you have to be very careful, which makes it really hard for comedians, because the beauty of comedy is that we make fun of ourselves, make fun of life,” she told Afp. In the past, she continued, “you could joke about a bigot and have a laugh — that was hysterical. And it was about educating people on how ridiculous people were. And now we’re not allowed to do that.”
The actress then switched her focus to Friends specifically, pointing out that when the show was airing in the 1990s, it was funny and people looked past some of the potentially more controversial takes the sitcom had.

Nostalgia reigns supreme this holiday season with the Peacock limited series continuation of director/writer Malcolm D. Lee’s successful “The Best Man” film franchise. In a rarity for most networks — streaming, broadcast, or otherwise — that Lee, whose more recent hits include Tiffany Haddish’s breakout “Girls Trip,” got all his original stars from both the 1999 film “The Best Man” and its 2013 sequel “The Best Man Holiday” to revive their characters once again for eight episodes.
Considering that those stars aren’t exactly waiting by the phone, that is quite a feat, especially when other less ambitious efforts (“Friends: The Reunion” anyone?) haven’t quite gone as smoothly. Marta Kauffman, who co-created the sitcom "Friends" with David Crane, has spoken out about the lack of diversity on the show, and she hopes to make things right by pledging 4 million to the African and African American studies department at her alma mater, Brandeis University, near Boston.
Last year's "Friends: The Reunion" special brought the show back into the cultural conversation, but reruns and streaming ensured it never completely left. "Friends" originally aired on NBC for 10 seasons from 1994 to 2004, serving as a launchpad for the careers of Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc,...

The One With a Charity Pledge: “Friends” co-creator Marta Kauffman announced a 4 million donation to her alma mater Brandeis University to establish a fund to support scholars studying Africa and the African diaspora.
Kauffman told the Los Angeles Times that she feels “embarrassed” over the lack of diversity in the hit ’90s sitcom “Friends” which ran for 10 seasons and centered on six straight, white singles in New York City. The most prominent person of color cast on the series was Aisha Tyler, who portrayed the love interest of Ross (David Schimmer) for nine episodes.
Kauffman, who created the series with David Crane, revealed that she originally thought the criticism over a lack of representation was “difficult and frustrating,” but the events of 2020, namely the murder of George Floyd by the Minneapolis police force, shed new light on her understanding of the series.

The way we watch television has changed a lot in the past couple of decades, as evidenced by the 54th Primetime Emmy Awards 20 years ago. Whereas streaming services and cable networks dominate the ceremonies now, 20 years ago NBC had the most major nominations with 47 and most major wins with 10; however, HBO was a strong contender, coming in second with 38 major noms and eight wins. This was also the first year that FX and VH1 received major nominations. Conan O’Brien hosted the ceremony on September 22, 2002, and even though some old “friends” were recognized, there were clear indicators that the major three networks were no longer in command. Read on for our Emmys flashback 20 years ago to 2002.
Although “Friends” was a leader in ratings and had received Emmy nominations in its first seven seasons, it had won very few. It finally won Best Comedy Series on its fifth nomination; this would be...

HBO Max’s pandemic-delayed Friends: The Reunion and Channel 4/Peacock hit We Are Lady Parts were the big winners Monday as prizes were handed out at the Banff Media Festival’s Rockie Awards International Program Competition.
Back to an in-person festival, the awards were very much looking at something old and something new at this afternoon’s ceremony.
The much-loved Friends Reunion, which brought all six original cast members back together, took home the Best Comedy & Variety Program prize, while Nida Manzoor’s We Are Lady Parts, the story of a female Muslim punk band, won Best Comedy Series: English Language.
The prestigious ceremony also saw big wins for Suranne Jones-starring BBC submarine thriller Vigil in Best Drama Series: English Language, while, in a year when non-English-language shows have dominated the landscape, HBO Max’s Danish offering Kamikaze took home the Non-English award.

Courteney Cox doesn’t mean any offense to Monica Geller or Gale Weathers or Jules Cobb, but there’s just something about Pat Phelps. “I don’t wanna — obviously, Monica and other characters I’ve played, but this is the one that’s just reinvigorated my passion for acting,” the actress tells Gold Derby of her role on Starz’s “Shining Vale” (watch the exclusive video interview above). “There’s just so many things to play, I’m thrilled. And then go right to comedy — in one episode you can play so many different things.”

How big was “Friends: The Reunion” for HBO Max? Almost superhero-big, according to third-party data.
“Friends: The Reunion” was watched by an estimated 29% of U.S. streaming households on May 27, the first day of its release, as measured by TVision, a connected-tv analytics provider. Viewers of the special on HBO Max were 55.4% female, and more than 50% were in the 35-54 age demo.
By comparison, DC’s “Wonder Woman 1984” reached 32% of U.S. streaming households when it bowed on Christmas Day 2020 on HBO Max, per TVision. According to Nielsen, “WW84” was the most-viewed title across U.S. streaming services for Dec. 21-27, 2020, registering nearly 2.3 billion minutes streamed.
The “Friends” homecoming special drew a larger audience than HBO Max’s April 23 debut of “Mortal Kombat,” which TVision estimated reached 16% of streaming homes — although the movie also opened in theaters the same day.
Meanwhile, “WandaVision” on Disney Plus reached 34% of streaming households on Jan.

China’s leading video streamers iQiyi, Tencent and Alibaba’s Youku are all fierce competitors, but they rallied together Friday to present an unusual united front against rival Bilibili for hosting unauthorized videos of “Friends: The Reunion” illegally on its platform.
The three streamers held the rights to officially broadcast HBO Max’s “Friends” special, which they released in China at 3 p.m. local time on Thursday, May 27. All three cut around six minutes of footage, entirely deleting appearances by musicians BTS, Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber, as well as LGBTQ fans, among other scenes.
Within hours of the official release, uncensored pirated versions of the show appeared on Bilibili, a platform initially more popular with Gen Z users interested in anime, comics and games (Acg) that has now become more mainstream and comparable to YouTube. For those for whom it hasn’t been your day, your week, your month, or even your year, there’s good news! The long-awaited and highly-anticipated Friends reunion special is hitting HBO Max (where all 236 episodes of the hit series are currently available for streaming) on Thursday, May 27! (Barcalounger chairs to enhance viewing pleasure are purely optional.) Hosted by James Corden, the episode marks the first time all six cast members will be sharing a screen in the 17 years since the show wrapped! As People magazine states in its recent cover story detailing the production, “Could we be any more excited?!”
A slew of the sitcom’s best-loved guest stars will be popping by to join in the fun, as well, including Reese Witherspoon, Tom Selleck and Maggie Wheeler (cue the “Oh my Gods!”). Justin Bieber, who was a wee six months old when the pilot aired, is also (inexplicably) making an appearance.
