Extremely Strong Season Opener From A Show That's Been Disappointing For So Long
kaylemstone11 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
After having been pushed away from the series last season due to the lack of good writing and storyline, I was pleasantly surprised by the amazing start to season 6.

This episode picks up 5 or 6 weeks after the season 5 finale and follows Morgan (Lennie James) after being mortally wounded. Morgan's storyline this episode was nothing short of amazing and every moment was a pleasure to watch. This is more of what I hoped for the character to be and it opens up what could be a very interesting and different arc for the character, more lining up with the 'clear' Morgan that we met in the earlier seasons of The Walking Dead.

Despite not continuing on as character in the series after this episode, the new characters introduced of Emile (Demetrius Grosse) and Isaac (Michael Abbott Jr.) were great to watch, extremely well written and acted really well.

The episode didn't at all feel slow, plenty happened, and the fight between Ranger James and Morgan at the end of the episode was choreographed fantastically. Overall one of the best, if not the best episode of the entire series and despite how I previously felt, I'm really excited to see where this show goes with the much darker vibe.

Fear's best episode yet
ethanjjacobs13 June 2021
After season 4 and 5 I didn't expect season 6 to get a start like this. The story was just so entertaining unlike a lot of season 5 and it's great to see Morgan back to killing. I love his character but the whole helping people thing was getting boring. Probably there best episode ever. Really excited to see what happens next

9.1/10.

A Glorious Return To Form
littlebizzare11 October 2020
After a so-so fourth season and a horrendous fifth, Fear TWD returns with its strongest season opener since Season 3.

Visually stunning, the cinematography is some of the best ever seen on any TWD shows.

Morgan is more complex, more layered. Less predictable. The helping storyline plays a little part in this episode, but is written more interestingly rather than the normal "help people, be happy" blah blah blah.

Flawless character development. An improvement in dialogue. There's death, there's fear.

Unlike former seasons, there was consistently fast pace throughout the episode. A good balance of dialogue and action. And the action was fun to watch, shot beautifully.

One of the best episodes of Fear, possibly the best. And one of the best TWD universe episodes.

If the next episodes are as incredible as this episode was, Fear TWD may have finally redeemed itself.

"The End is The Beginning" is spectacular.

The old Fear is dead, we're dealing with something else now
Exodus23313 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
After a couple of disappointing seasons, Fear The Walking Dead is finally back on track. Lennie James is phenomenal as Morgan Jones in this spiritual sequel of "Clear" and "Here's Not Here" from the main show.

I loved everything about this episode! The bounty hunter was a cool one-off character, same goes for Isaac. The best part of the episode was Morgan going full "beast mode" against those walkers at the dam, and picking up the axe at the end. I wonder what the key is all about, and what is the deal with the stranded submarine? I can't wait to find out.

Next week we'll check in with Alicia, Strand, Daniel and Charlie. Let's hope they'll deliver another great episode, because this is very promising!

One of the best episodes of TV I have seen in a long time
playstationonward12 October 2020
Holy wow. They took everything wrong with the last two seasons and crushed them instantly. Morgan Jones is at his best here, and the new characters are incredibly interesting. The plot is tight, the mood is intense, and the hype feels justified. This feels epic, high scale. Something The Walking Dead hasn't hit in years, and World Beyond probably won't ever hit. When Fear is good it is quite possibly the best show (or one of the best) on all of television. I can't wait to see where this goes next. Top tier.

The End is the Beginning, a visually stunning premiere that is suspenseful from start to finish, a memorable episode
Holt34412 October 2020
The season 5 finale ended with Morgan Jones who was left for dead by Virginia while the remaining members of Morgan's group have been separated by Virginia and her Pioneers and are dispersed across her various settlements. The anthology format that the showrunners have teased and told us about makes that kind of story work as we'll have the chance to follow these characters and the stories they tell and the various of locations that will be introduced, could only be a good thing but a negative part of it all is that we won't follow the whole group if I understand correctly so it will be wait an episode to get to see the other characters. I believe it will be a good season, I hope. It also seems like they have placed the Fear back into the show but I get why they wanted it to be more of hope than fear before but this lpooks promising.

This season premiere is directed by Michael E. Satrazemis, a person who have been working on The Walking Dead since the start so he knows his stuff and doesn't disappoint in the direction and camera work. The cinematography is great and there's so many shots that are visually stunning. The editing with all those beautiful shots were done so well, it's a huge step up.

I love westerns and there are a lot of themes and a feeling of western in this season, a lot more than the previous season. We get introduced to a new character, a bounty hunter who works for Virginia and at first I didn't think it would work but it did and it was entertaining and an interesting character and concept. The overall writing is so much better, no stupid actions, it have improved a lot. Even the newly introduced characters are fantastic and written in an realistic way which most of the previous characters that got introduced wasn't.

My final thoughts on this episode, it was superb. Truly suspenseful, emotional driven drama and tons of zombie kills. An episode you will remember for years to come that has Morgan Jones the beloved character at the front. The acting is some of Lennie James' best and all of the supporting cast did also a great job. The production design is perfect and its overall dark atmosphere is the reason why many loved the show from the start.

One of the Best Episodes of the Whole Series!!!
Pumpkin_Man14 October 2020
Season 6 of Fear the Walking Dead definitely kicked off with a bang. This has been the best episode since the season 4 premiere. It was a breath of fresh air. Demetrius Grosse was great as the bounty hunter named Emile. He was such an interesting character.

After Morgan Jones is shot and left for dead by Virginia, he somehow survived and waiting for death to come. Six weeks have passed, and Virginia doesn't know if Morgan is dead or alive, so she sends out the bounty hunter named Emile, who will cut off your head with a broad axe. (Seriously, I can't get over how awesome Emile is. He needs his own spin-off)

Morgan runs into a survivor named Isaac, who is trying to get back to his wife. At this point, Morgan is slowly dying, and mentally and physically beat, with walkers and a bounty hunter on his trail, chances of survival are looking slim. Will Morgan or Isaac survive, or is this the end? If you're not watching Fear TWD, right now is definitely the time! I would highly recommend THE END IS THE BEGINNING!!!

FEAR IS BACK?
hyseinienes14 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Im not even gonna comment on fear season 4 and 5. They were horrible and I was ready to give up on this show entirely. But oh wow, was 6x01 a breath of fresh air. A light at the end of the tunnel even. What I like most about this episode is that it feels old but also new. It has every element of a good TWD/FTWD episode and then more. The western-y feel, the removal of that god-awful grey filter, old Morgan back anfd little details like that hint to a great season. The bounty hunter was a really good one-episodic antagonsit and Im glad that the cat and mouse game between him and Morgan lasted for an episode and not more. Again, as a die-hard fan of this tv show that was ready to give up, I AM VERY EXCITED.

There's potential
braedynh11 October 2020
I don't believe this episode warrants an extremely high rating like most people are giving it, but what I can say is that theres a big improvement! The grey filter is finally gone, Morgan actually had some character development instead of his boring, one dimensional 'all life is precious, let's help everyone' nonsense. He could genuinely be interesting this season. The episode brought back a more dark feeling, the walkers actually seemed like a threat, and Josiah was a convincing antagonist. Virginia still seems like a terrible and unconvincing character though, she has been awfully written. Overall, it was a good start and I can see potential for this season

I'm speechless...

Warning: Spoilers
How on earth did FTWD get soo good!? Like seriously last season was total garbage but this... this was totally opposite. I'm genuinely surprised.

Thank God the colors are back otherwise I felt color blind when I watched s4 and s5. No more annoying, overly optimistic Morgan. I hated him ever since s4B but now I actually liked him.

Everything was really well done in this episode so please don't screw things up in later episodes. I'm glad that this season started so strong because World Beyond is crap so at least I'll have something great to watch till we get TWD s11.

It was amazing! Kudos.

Was that a huge ship at the end or a plane!?

I actually liked it. No more boring tapes, no more grey contrast. Actually got a bit of s 3 vibes. But still there is alot to develop.

I love both alicia and morgans characters. But i dont feel for any of ther other ones, i want to but i dont.

And really impressive from the new guy, so bad they have to kill all there characters with more potential.

Here we go again
mihmichael8 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Well, I'm guessing people voting this episode higher than 4 or 5 are AMC employees. Gangrene, 5-6 weeks, Morgan smells like dead? And he still manages to survive, without surgery. And when he had a chance to kill a guy who's out for his head, he shoots him in the arm! True Morgan, true nutcase. And people cheer for him? He caused so many deaths, he is so pitiful and yet, can't be killed? He barely walks, falls and he kills ten or so walkers! Is this improvement compared to S05? Yes, but it is still a show not worth watching. Hope it gets cancelled soon. Lennie surely got a huge contract to be a part of this shietshow.

Amazing Season Premire
mwalien11 October 2020
This is a fast paced, action packed episode with good visuals, great acting and a diffeent feel to the show which hasn't been apparent for some time. It feels like the story is moving in a more darker and stronger journey than recent seasons. I'm happy to say that Fear is back for one hell of a ride.

The best Fear has been in a long, long time.

I typically dislike bottle episodes, though with last season's cliffhanger I was more than happy to see how Morgan survived. I haven't felt suspense and interest in this show since Madison Clarke was the lead character.

Fantastic episode. I came in with low expectations based on the poor quality of last season. I can honestly say I was blown away. The three main actors in this episode absolutely knocked it out of the park. Not sure about how the rest of the season will shake out but they are definitely off to a great start.

A Good Start?

Considering season 4-5 was so bad, this episode was amazing compared to them. But they need to stop focusing on Morgan but rather focus on Alicia as this show was built up about her family and their survival since the beginning of the apocalypse

Morgan Jones...
songod-9500313 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
... is dead. You're dealing with somebody else now." Best line in the whole ep.

I do not agree with all the rave "return to form" reviews here. I admit this was better than anything in the past season and a half (yes 4 started good but became a mess in it's back 8); but there was still some lapses. "There's another way in". Okay... it takes a little longer but, why not use it?? Issac had no idea he'd find Morgan, that's he'd smell of death, that, well anything... Once he had his wife's supplies he should have simply used that other way! He blew the extra time it would have taken by finding Morgan, the whole bit with the bounty hunter, etc; plus he was already bit and would have died anyway. Bozo writing strikes again.

Scott Gimple is still in charge here so please do not get your hopes up.

A return to form?
itsame_kaia11 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
It's no secret that what has happened to Fear the Walking Dead over the past couple seasons is almost universally considered to be an absolute travesty. Just as the series hit its stride in the still fantastic third season, virtually the entire crew and a huge chunk of the cast was replaced with by far less interesting characters with terrible writing. The first half of Season 4, while frustrating, was at least watchable: Morgan is one of my favorite characters from the original series, and Lennie James is one of the best actors in the franchise. Unfortunately, with the deaths of Nick and Madison the series lost its original purpose. In the second half of Season 4 and the entirety of Season 5, it devolved into a complete parody of itself, plagued by bad dialogue, stiff cinematography, characters behaving completely unlike themselves, a terrible bare-bones plot about helping people and an insufferable gray filter over every episode.

Fortunately, almost every major gripe I had with the last season and a half or so has been done away with in this episode. The trailers for this season already looked promising, similar to TWD Season 9's exciting trailers after the disappointing Season 8. As of this premiere, color has returned to the show, gone is the empty plot from last season, and the grounded realism that made TWD's universe so compelling to begin with has (mostly) returned.

There is very little to complain about here. Morgan is once again acting in line with the direction his character arc was heading until Fear Season 5, and now seems to have finally settled into the most likeable version of himself. The dialogue, for the most part, is fine, and occasionally compelling. The cinematography, while still far different from the dirty handheld of the first three seasons, is more dynamic and loose, but again it's mostly the sharp return of vibrant color that makes it interesting to look at. The story of the first episode itself is simple, but somewhat unique in TWD universe. A character like Emile the bounty hunter could feel out-of-place and corny like much of the last couple seasons, but fortunately they smartly decided to have him be a one-off character that was dispatched of once he'd served his purpose. I even found myself getting a bit choked up at Isaac's bite reveal/death and Morgan seemingly going for good after killing Emile.

I'm not convinced this season will be amazing or as good as this episode hints it will be. The bottle episode format they're utilizing could easily get old fast, especially on episodes focusing on less compelling characters like June or Althea. But, for at least this premiere, I'm happy to say that the world of Fear feels alive again, thanks to improved writing, reasonable dialogue, a simple yet compelling storyline and visuals that don't induce headaches.

We may never be getting the original Fear of the first three seasons back, but if this level of quality is kept up, then it'll definitely be a show worth watching again regardless.

Let's not get carried away, it was good, not great, we've lowered our expectations
Rob-O-Cop14 October 2020
This would have been a decent episode in series 1 or 2, but in series 3-5 it's a good to great episode purely because the standard and our expectations have dropped so badly.

It had some nice details, which we should rightly expect for every single episode. I liked Morgan's bloodshot eyes, and his delivery of closer to dead than alive and ceasing to care either way. This was not running through the motions acting which we've become accustomed to. It had depth and meaning, and we need that, we deserve that. Issac was good, a likeable character with light and shade and motivation behind it. It's a pity he only stayed for one episode. He was a character you could care about, although a little bit close to John Dorie's character, but I'd rather have 2 of him than,.........Virginia.

A thoroughly unconvincing villain, and really a bit insulting to the viewer's intelligence. She'd have to be a manipulative psychopathic evil genius to be the slight woman that she is and command a powerful army, like she is supposed to, and we've seen none of that on display. It's all she can do to stop her self from tripping over. She reeks of klutz. Or they could come up with some other explanation for how this thoroughly unscary person commands power. Speaking threats down a walkie talkie doesn't sell it. maybe just get rid of her? Please. Emile was more interesting and believable as a villain to command respect and fear, and ........, he's not hanging around.

Maybe this whole human villain's angle has run its course. Why not make the show more about how people develop systems to establish heir lives again in a world with walking dead springing up when someone dies. Is that not a cool enough premise to explore. All the best moments are to do with that. Like mortally wounded Morgan not triggering the Dead. Now that was a worth detail and a lo more rewarding than yet an other human 'villain'.

The decline continues
david-344412 October 2020
This show was once great. After season three, the show went downhill very sharply. While the decline has slowed - it's so bad now that it can't get that much worse - it's still headed in the wrong direction.

Viewers don't watch because there are new villains or more creative ways to dispatch walkers; viewers watch because they get invested in the characters. The showrunners of this show seem completely unaware of this, since they've killed off the most-loved characters and drained the rest of their personalities.

Morgan's original personality left us last season, and now the show is removing the "new" personality, too. I expect the same to happen to the rest of the characters as the season unwinds. If the new personalities were interesting, this might be forgivable, but the showrunners seem to be incapable of creating a three-dimensional character. Every character here, both new and old, is one-dimensional and boring.

Plots are equally flat, with no creativity or depth. Stupid cliffhangers are used to try to keep the audience coming back, but ratings are showing that the audience isn't buying it.

This was truly one of the most boring 75 minutes of television I've ever seen. If you're a fan of the show who missed this episode, there's no need to watch it. You didn't miss anything.
