The last couple of episodes have been a great return-to-form

I've never missed an episode, and I've been sad about the sagging ratings the last couple of seasons (and arguably plummeting ratings might be more accurate), but I can understand why. The tension between doing his specialty and taking care of his family disappeared once Conor went off to TV oblivion and Bridget is doing her own thing, and Abbey gone.

It feels like it's taken a while for the show to find a new footing, with several plotlines just disappearing, characters acting out of character, episodes ending in apparent cliffhangers that the following ones didn't deliver on the promise of, and other issues that seem to creep up whenever a high drama action series starts getting long in the tooth, when they can start feeling more like soap operas. Last season I was worried that the series was going the way that Dexter did, but this season in general proved me wrong, and it's only picked up more and more steam throughout.

But tonight's episode blew me away. Though the main reveal of the episode kind of telegraphed itself from a mile away, it was still satisfying to see how it played out. With Showtime still not announcing on renewing for another season I'm guessing these remaining episodes will be the last of Ray Donovan, but it looks like if they are they'll be going out with a bang. This may be my favourite episode yet (though I'm probably biased with one of my all-time favourite directors doing another great job), I wish more people were tuning back in to give the show another chance, because I know they'd be satisfied.

Another Amazing Episode

Warning: Spoilers
I agree with the other users about this season picking up more and more steam. I'm glad this season is focusing on Ray's life long grudge against his father and the reasons of why it got there. This episode is hinting at a big twist for the finale. I'm positive the series could go on and on, but there has to be an end in sight and if this were Ray Donovan's last season it would surely be one of the best. So far, it's getting a lot better than season 6. You won't miss Ray's son and Bridget's diminishing role in things. The core of this season is to address the rift between Ray and Mick and if there'll be some sort of redeeming.

Showtime has hands down one of the best series out there. Thing is that not too many people outside of the US know about it. If this show were on a streaming service like Netflix, it would blow out of the water so many mediocre series in a second!

Intriguing season so far

Greetings from Lithuania.

I really enjoy second half of this season - it is very involving and intriguing. I liked flashback sequences - that was unexpected and very well done - i liked performance by actor who played young Mickey - kinda wanted me see more of a prequel story of Ray Donovan, with a focus on Mickey.

Overall, with only 2 episodes left in this season - i bet they will be great. The biggest complain is that sadly is the last season, which means that we won't get a true ending of this show. This is as bad as it can be to run show for 7 season and then suddenly cancel it. Ray would agree on this one.

The 70s show

The flashbacks make a slightly more interesting story than the present timeline. A prequel, limited to one season, would probably be intriguing, especially to follow the story of Ray becoming Ray.

The present timeline leaves one wondering why they did not focus more one Ray job, instead of on his dysfunctional family. This season is particularly bad as Ray has no job at all except covering his back for what he and his family did last season.

In fact, nobody has any special story going on, but leftovers and repetitions from previous seasons, with characters Terry and Bunch in much worse situations than before, Terry being jobless, sick and aimless and Bunch dumber than ever. Talk about "much ado about nothing".

What was going on with the sound.

Could hardly hear a word of dialogue due to the excessive background sounds. Terrible for seemed like a very good episode
