As an ex Christian...
dannylee-7808224 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Wow some of the logic used in Bevs effort to gaslight wade is so so so spot on. The writing on this is done by some one who has a decent understanding of Christianity, which I appreciate because of so many of these shows and movies that try to somewhat blend in religion do it terribly due to shallow understanding.

Pruitts descent is becoming more diabolical and dark and more mysterious which makes this show so much more interesting.

What's going on with Erin?? What is going on with her?? Ahhh the mystery is killing me.

Wow I thought Riley was really the main character!!!!!

Amazing episode.

When we die
simon-614-38090410 October 2021
Riley's dialogue explaining what he thinks will happen to him when he dies, was in my opinion, a wonderful explanation of what will 'probably' happen when I die. And, I like the idea!

Where Riley and Erin discuss the process of dying
ChgoExtra26 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
An absolutely amazing, captivating scene. One straight shot, almost 10 straight minutes of uncut dialogue. Zach Gilford NAILS the science of dying. Erin has a completely different view in a much more religious sense. Both such great monologues.

If you're looking for a horror movie, this is not for you. But it's a brilliant supernatural thriller with outstanding character development.

That scene was so amazing. The actors, the song, everything was perfect. It made me think in a different way. Best scene I've watch since a long time. It deserve to be watch and to be mentionned.

Riley and Erin's conversation on what's after death
gedikreverdi3 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Erin's baby seems to have never existed. Bev is the embodiment of being a blind follower. And Riley is just gone like that? He's the most interesting character in the show so I hope he's not another victim of the father like Joe.

A TV Jewel... Just watch it !

Warning: Spoilers
This episode is absolutely brilliant. The dialogue and conversations are so real and well-written. You get a twist in Erin's pregnancy, just to get a double twist later, and then you think Father Paul may have been able to convince Riley, but find out Riley wasn't duped at all. The scene between Riley and his dad was really heartwarming, and made you feel great emotion for Ed. On the other hand, everything going on between Riley and Erin, and all the dialogue concerning what happens after death will bring tears to your eyes.

At the church though, you get a Father Paul who is slowly losing control, and a shocking death. Joe Collie dies right when you get a fair bit of development for his character. The last scene of the episode is also disturbing, scary and shocking, in more ways than one. Flanagan did it again, and really hit a homerun with this one. I'd give Lamentations a solid 9.5/10.

Best episode yet, mostly thanks to the ending
lareval26 September 2021
Flanagan is a genius and only a genius could gave us a depressing, bloodcurdling, terrifying ending scene. All the episode (and the story so far) build up to that. And is as unsetting as it gets. Exciting, horrific, downbeat and emotional. Best episode yet.

Warning: Spoilers
My word what an episode! The discussion about death and the speech on the boat broke me. The show doesn't try and accelerate too fast and maintains its slow burn nature which really works here, giving us more little by little.

But the ending. How could you? I mean it was really unexpected but why :,(

Religion is Evil

Warning: Spoilers
Hand on your brain over at the door.

I'm hoping the priest's assistant gets eaten. I just can't stand when people are manipulated by other people. And religious people are easy.

Kuddos to the actress for making her character someone you love to hate!

Loving this show
ocramidajzj8 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
A slow burn but creepy as hell and well produced, acted, directed and written. Like many others the discussion of death between faith and science was fantastic. I also laughed out loud at the banter between around cleaning up Father's messy leftover.

The ending was heartbreaking with that final shot over the beast as it fed on its surprising victim. Kinda got a feeling where this series was going from the getgo and I have to say it's really doing a nice job revisiting a well worn piece of mythology. Director Flanaghan has directed a few Stephen King Adaptions and this and you can tell that Midnight Mass pays homage and builds on the formula King is famous for. Really first rate production.

Slooooow
LGuerrero-a-x-e25 October 2021
While the content of Riley and Erin's conversation about death was smart and deep, and Zach Gilford's performance was top notch, it was way too long and ended up so boring I zoned out. It would have been just as good if it was half as long. Parts of this series are great by my god the long slow boring parts really take a lot away from it.

Scenes are too long
mitchell-greenaway10 October 2021
There were several scenes in this episode that were too long. Especially some dialogue. I do not need 10 minutes of dialogue in one scene from a TV series. I fell asleep and woke up during it.

Warning: Spoilers
Definitely the best episode so far.

I was worried after the reveal last episode about what's going on that the rest of the show wouldn't be as spooky or as intense, but boy was I wrong. If anything, the stakes have just raised. The implications of the REC center scenes and the unexpected death halfway through are so daunting...

The scene where Father Pruitt is just freaking SUCKING THE BLOOD OUT OF JOE WTF GET OUT OF HERE

The monster (vampire? Fallen Angel?) is so unsettling and all of his scenes in the show have been horrifying. And Erin's baby business and boiling blood? Has me very anxious...

Aaaaand Bev is a Bible-thumping bigot...

But this is still a great character piece with powerful performances. Riley and Erin's scenes were the best parts for me. I doubt Riley is gone for good, but that scene still made me upset!

Another exceptional episode.

Gilford deserves every reward known to man
bhester080610 December 2021
Gilfrod puts on an acting clinic in this episode unlike anything I've seen from a Netflix original. I don't know where he's been hiding since Friday Night Lights but I'm glad he's back.

Terrific episode
85122228 December 2021
Greetings from Lithuania.

4th episode of "Midnight Mass" was so far the best one. And not only due to ending. Characters and overall story started to grow on my. This show isn't a horror fest but so far it was more about faith, sorrow and grief. But at the end of episode 4 this might started to go more in a direction of supernatural = no spoilers.

Very good series so far.

Livro Quatro: Lamentações

Missa da Meia-Noite (2021)

Series

1st Season

Episode Four - Livro Quatro: Lamentações

The amount of anger I'm feeling towards Bev, I believe is greater than the anger towards the priest.

What a wonderful dialogue between Riley and Kate Siegel, I, who am not very religious, was moved by her speech about her son being asleep.

I didn't expect the priest sucking Joe's hair.

When the priest hugs Joe, Joe must have thought: "So he is?"

The actors and actresses are very good, but the sheriff son is a very bad actor, the conversation is serious and he is almost laughing.

Episode four of the first season of the Missa da Meia-Noite Miniseries watched on May 12, 2024.

Rating: 9/10.

Philosophy and science
trokanmariel-1776025 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
In my episode 2 review, I refrained from discussion's topic. In this review, pertaining to Erin and Riley's discussion about death, I won't refrain.

Philosophy and science. In this context, the meaning of science is the necessity of prelude. The meaning of philosophy, being the antithesis, is thus the prelude to necessity.

Deconstructing philosophy and not science was the point of the analysis.

Well that got dark very quickly.
Sleepin_Dragon13 August 2022
Erin confides in Riley when she gets some tragic news, Father Paul begins behaving very, very strangely.

Deep, maybe it could have been a little bit shorter, but I enjoyed it, I liked the content, I found it really interesting.

The scene between Riley and Erin was tremendous, the acting was captivating from the pair of them.

I was about to criticise it for being too slow, and for perhaps being a little too preachy, but as it went on, and concluded, it was all about things being put into context.

It seems that every episode, we're being purposely drip fed information, the camera, for example lingered on that crystal decanter several times, we obviously got some weird and wonderful answers there, but who or what is the being in the hat?

Enjoyed, 8/10.

My god what a boring conversation in the middle!
korn_adidas10 October 2021
Can't remember I the last time I actually skipped a scene will watching a series. The "what happens when you die" scene was so damn boring! Flat, bland and just plain awful.

Rest of the episode was fine. But my god cut out this stuff from the show. We get it, they are sad and alone. They have grief and loss in their lives.....now moving on.

So far, this is my favorite episode
caliliyah3 March 2022
Don't get me wrong, I truly dislike Bev, but she is freaking unflappable. Yes, it's her crazy religious fervor that drives it, but it is AMAZING.

Maybe it's me not being Christian, but I laughed thru a lot of this episode because of her blind faith and acceptance of absolutely anything. I hate her, but I also kinda like her.

Whack final scene
Calicodreamin25 September 2021
For the most part this episode was good, lacking in creeps and abounding in monologues. The final scene was whack and unexpected. Acting is good but gets lost in minute conversations and moves slow.

good show but this ep was tough
awal44442 November 2021
Those scenes with erin and riley were brutal. There are 20 other things going on on the island that i'd rather be watching - priest, demon, sheriff and son, un-crippled girl, religious nut, etc. Instead we get half a episode of two people just rambling on and on.

S1.E4 - Good But Not As Good As The Previous Episodes [8/10]
panagiotis199325 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
(S1. E4) My Live Reaction / Review for Midnight Mass Season 1 Episode 4 ''Book IV: Lamentations''. The previous episode was good and I gave it a rating of 9.6/10. Let's see if this one is better or worse. Erin lost the baby? It just disappeared? How? Bev knows that father Paul is Monsignor Pruitt? The light is burning father Paul's skin? Does this mean that he is fully a vampire now? Father Paul is drinking his own blood, he is definitely a vampire. Erin and Riley have a long boring conversation in this episode. Father Paul just killed Joe? Oh no, I liked Joe. Erin and Riley are a cute couple. Bev is so annoying, I hate it when she talks. The vampyric creature attacked Riley, what a way to end the episode! Overall this episode was good but not as good as the previous episodes, my rating is 8/10.
