You reached through time and you stole.
teiixeiral26 September 2021
Wow. This was the best episode thus far. It still follows in the footsteps of the first two episodes with the slow burn approach but we get some truly amazing scenes and performances. Linklater and Cymone steal the show. The reveal at the end of the episode is awesome. I love how Flanagan is consistently exploring different types of horror in his work but keeps it grounded with the human experience.

Monologues and Creepy Wings
tristan_1925 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This episode made me care about the characters a lot. Joe and Leeza are really awesome and well fleshed out. The emotion is flowing through the roof. Once again, Riley is great. The dialogue is on point. Also loved the Sheriff, and Erin. The religion stuff is interesting and makes you think and question things.

Also, the Father Paul reveal was really intense and disturbing. What about these creepy angels ? Wow...

These actors are phenomenal. Linklater and Cymone can carry a scene or a monologue, let me tell you.

Another great installment

Once you get into the dynamics and pacing of the story, the entertainment and the thrills are well assured. The religion topics add an extra level of complexiting and chills down the spine.

Her performance... WOW. When the scene was over (after she visited his trailer), I was crying! That was such a beautiful performance, and I felt not only what she felt, but I cried like he did when she forgave him. Beautiful scene; great episode!

Miraculous times on Crockett Island
gedikreverdi2 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Leeza has forgiven Joe and the miracle made everyone want to be a better person. The conversation between the parents in the classroom was really good and Bev is getting on my nerves. Father Paul's health seems to be deteriorating. Ali who's Sheriff's son has become interested in Christianity after the miracle but his father isn't think it's not a miracle because the same god didn't save his wife and he doesn't work this way.

Then it turned out the new father is actually the younger Monsignor who brought to the island an angel whom he came across in a cave in the holy land. Is that a metaphor or is it actually a supernatural story?

Phenomenal Episode
shweta-5165725 September 2023
By this point of the series, you are already pretty intrigued by the story line: the mystery surrounding the enigmatic but strange new Father Paul, Lisa's's miracle, the bad omen found on the beaches, the strange sightings all around the island ; but not quite convinced if this show is worth your time.

If you were still on the edge of where you stood at the start of this episode, I guarantee that by the end of this episode, you will taken hook, line and sinker.

This episodes literally makes you draw in your breathe, and hold it. The last few scenes are explosive and the realisation of the reveal makes you sit dumbfounded gaping at the screen.

One particular shot in this episode stayed in mind for months. I have to say on second watching, Mike Flanagan's Midnight Mass is even better than the first time around.

The episode picks up in the last 20 mins, once you get to this point, I guarantee you will want to binge all the way till the end..

Excellent

Warning: Spoilers
Whelp... can't say I saw that coming.

Man, every episode almost feels like it's own movie. It all connects and is undoubtably one story, it has to be a series, but so much happens in each episode! I'm glad Flanagan only made this 7 episodes. No point dragging the story out more than needed.

One highlight of the episode was the conversation between Leeza and her shooter. Man... Cymone and Longstreet were fantastic in this scene. So, so awkward be so, so heartbreaking from both ends. All of Longstreet's scenes in this series have been exceptional!

I also loved the reveal about Father Pruitt. That was probably the last place I expected this show to go! I've been thinking about it all day. So, so creepy and unsettling.

And yes, the lamp jumpscare legitimately got me!

This show has done a really good job showcasing the debate that are still going on in the education system with religion, skepticism, and how far people are willing to take their beliefs, even if they can't admit that hey may not be entirely accurate or healthy...

I have a lot to say about this series in just the first half. For now, I'll say it's exceptionally acted, with perfectly placed scares, discussions that get you thinking, and some very rewarding reveals. Definitely for the more patient viewers, but as one, I'm very content. Very anxious for what's to come...

Theology is Good to Learn: Objectively.
setgetsiin27 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I was kind of annoyed in High School (early 80s) that we did not have an elective for Theology. Where open minded people could read, compare, see that that ALL those books are the same but in different colors...something GOOD to learn.

While I don't mind it so much in entertainment, it's the aura of favor toward one and the stomping on another. I prefer the base Pagan outlook, as I recognize this as the roots of every single man made religion out there, so to say one is "kinder" than the other or portray its followers (when we KNOW that isn't always the case) is very uncool. The Crusaders were an earlier version of the clowns who knocked down the Twin Towers. From the same cloth...? YEAH: They all blow when one gets lost in it.

That out of the way...I am getting serious Monsterland Vibes from this particular season. Now with the creepy angel...nearly identical to the ones in the final episode...? Must be connected, which I think is brilliant!! Linklater was in the NOLA episode.

While others might scream about the Theology, it is probably important to learn ALL of them (find out how similar they ALL are), and realize it's all born of Pagan roots. ALL of it. Wish they'd make a show based on THAT. Heads would roll, ha.

Mike Flanagan is fantastic, I've been a follower since his earliest days.

The slow burn is finally working, I was having a little trouble paying attention in the first two due to long shots and music over activity/no dialogue, but this is getting incredibly GOOD. I cannot wait to see the links, from the dog to the priest...now a disappearance which seems to be in direct 'balance' with the unnatural occurrences...

Very good. I really hope this ends well. I've been watching some other new seasons/shows, and they are fantastic till the last rushed episode (AHS and 9 Perfect Strangers): Unbelievably fantastic starts, utterly disgusting and ridiculous rushed ends. Keeping high hopes for ya, Flanagan!!!

Scene that will make you ugly cry
janinebroschat20 November 2022
I've watched this series all the way through several times over, at this point, and this episode, here, and the exchange between Leeza and Joe.... is the white-hot, blistering emotional center of this story. The sharp, perfect distillation of the theme. There are other events and moments which are obviously more of the conventionally literary narrative climax, but this is the good stuff. Robert Longstreet will tear your heart out of your chest and stomp it into the ground with his reaction to Leeza's dialogue. You will crawl into his skin and live those moments with him.

This series will pay you back in abundance for going along for the ride.

Great last ten minutes
Calicodreamin25 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The last ten minutes were awesome, with the revelation behind the Monsignor and the beast. However, the first fifty minutes were preachy and lacked any creep factor whatsoever.

Brilliant dialogue

Warning: Spoilers
Now we know directly that Paul is up to something. I keep guessing things but I have no idea if they are correct.

Beautiful long takes of conversations. I love the dialogue. It almost feels direction less because it's covering a lot of different emotions and moods.

Oh my gosh what a twist!!!!!

[7.2] The pose, the "Thing" and the red
cjonesas21 March 2022
Episode 3: Seriously, nothing really happening, aside interesting knowledgeable conversations, good acting together with the last few minutes being truly and evenly uninteresting as the series and episodes suffer from so much snail pace that by the time you finally see some actions and storyline developments, you simply don't care and watch hypnotically, bored to the bones with your blood pressure sinking and eyes vitrified to the screen, while your brain is unable to register and fully comprehend the mystically thrilling nonsense that your eyes are sending it.

Great episode
Just-A-Girl-1421 November 2021
What a great episode, I really enjoyed it. I was hoping we see some serious development in the story and we definitely got it. There was a lot going on in the episode but I especially liked the dialogue between Riley and Joe, it was excellent! Very honest and moving. We also learned what happened to Monsignor Pruitt and finally got to see the mysterious "zombie" from previous episodes. The show had a slow start but now it's picking up the pace and I'm excited to see what's next.

A pretty intriguing event happen with leeza: she can walk now and we wondering if the priest know more that he said. We know a little more about the state of Pruitt and what happened to him. Pretty intriguing and we want more about the events and unravel the mysteries arround the priest and the island. Very good episode again.

The Exorcist vibes
rodriguesalazar15 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Very heavy and dialogue driven episode, with an unexpected change of pase and a really well made jump scare. If you loved The Exorcist universe, you want to watch this one.

And Leeza's speech. She became a different actress after the miracle, I swear. Intrigued to watch how far her faith and devotion goes.

A great mix
lisichichi5 October 2021
Midnight Mass continues to be an extraordinary series in this episode!

Hamish Linklater is AMAZING. I am by no means a religious person, but how he delivers his lines in the church is so gripping, it keeps you on the edge of your seat.

I loved the great moments between Rileys parents, Leeza and Rileys brother and especially between Erin and Riley himself. Mike Flanagan makes the characters feel so real, I really care about them after just 3 episodes.

The mixture of this nice moments with the growing mystery is definitely intriguing, what a great show (if you have the patience to appreciate this slow burn)!

For the upright shall dwell in the land, and the perfect shall remain in it.
slak96u30 December 2021
Finally some answers, the pace is picking up. Best episode of the series, up till now, which is good, considering this nearly the halfway point. The scene in the school, with the parents was clunky and ham-handed. We get it, no need to further zealot'ize Bev, although it sets up good commentary between the Sheriff and his son. The final 10-15 minutes is a trip.

Enjoyable and intelligent.

Warning: Spoilers
I'm really enjoying this - just imagining island life is a delight and the cinematography is great.

If you can buy into the supernatural silliness (just go with it for the sake of the plot and it's fun) it's a really intelligent exploration of religion, belief and the human condition.

Are vampires angels now or am I missing something?

Livro Três: Provérbios

Midnight Mass (2021)

Series

1st Season

Episode Three- Livro Três: Provérbios

I confess that by the end of this episode, this whole thing about a religious leader healing his followers was reminding me, even remotely, of an episode about the Angel of Death from the first season of the series Supernatural, and I was rooting for the religious fanatic to be in control. The entity so that it could suffer a lot in the end.

As people are interested, in the beginning there was almost no one in the church, only on special days and now there is no place to breathe after the wheelchair user is cured. I still love the pace of this series.

The religious fanatic is already working overtime, I hope she suffers a lot.

Episode three of the first season of the Missa da Meia-Noite Miniseries watched on May 12, 2024.

Rating: 10/10.

Can't understand the high ratings???
laurarwh27 September 2021
Slowest paced series I've ever watched which I wouldn't mind if the narrative seemed strong but it's non existent. Every episode is centred around long boring conversations between characters. Not engaging or eerie at all. Only thing that saves it is the acting. Will not be watching the next episode.

More strange occurrences.
Sleepin_Dragon13 August 2022
Joe receives an unexpected visitor, and another miracle happens on the island.

The intrigue and suspense is definitely starting to grow, strange things are happening on the island, and things seem to be changing quickly, is there some strange force on the island, it's wonderfully interesting.

The standout for me once again is Hamish Linklater, Father Paul is such a fascinating character, Hamish really does hold the screen, he's terrific.

Many excellent scenes here, I think perhaps the moment where Leeza confronts Joe was one of the best, it was such an uncomfortable moment, very well acted.

8/10.

S1.E3 - Absolutely Beautiful Episode [10/10]
panagiotis199325 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
(S1. E3) My Live Reaction / Review for Midnight Mass Season 1 Episode 3 ''Book III: Proverbs''. The previous episode was good and I gave it a rating of 9/10. Let's see if this one is better or worse. Does father Paul have some kind of magical powers or it was God doing this miracle? Father Paul is a very positive example for everyone on the island, I like him. Leeza forgives Joe for what he did to her, that's good. Cant live with the anger and hate, it's too much. Bev is so annoying, every time she says anything it sounds wrong and cringe. Im glad to see Joe trying to stop his drinking problem. Father Paul is sick, I really hope it's not something serious. Is father Paul dying? What the hell is going on? What is this creature that attacked Monsignor Pruitt? A vampire with wings? Wait Father Paul is Monsignor Pruitt? What a twist. Father Paul is alive? Oh that's great news, I love the character and wanna see him in more episodes. What a beautiful episode! Overall this episode was good, my rating is 9.6/10.

Join the cult
sja-awesome27 October 2023
Some interesting human dynamics and conundrums but also I have a lot of religious jargon indoctrination and preachy BS... The series forces you to watch full sermons and expects it to be interesting.. Where's the horror in this story?? Mostly it's like they are trying to convince you to become Christian lol. Sooo much religious propaganda. On and on. The scary part is the religious nonsense, and not so much a monster or horror/mystery. Scenes go on for too long, drag on and it becomes really boring. The scene with the girl screaming at the guy should of been half as long honestly. Another over hyped Netflix series.
