One of the worst Teen Choice Awards I have seen, entirely forgettable

Warning: Spoilers
And I have seen quite a few. But first things first. This one herfe took place in mid-August 2019, so actually it is not that old even. Just one year and three months. Feels so far away that they had these large crowds at awards events. Or events in general. The director is two-time Emmy nominee Michael dempsey from California and these (awards) shows are really the basis of his career. He has directed so many of those, even other Teen Choice Awards editions throughout the years. The hosts are David Dobrik and Lucy Hale. The former is apparently a pretty famous young Slovakian guy from Youtube. Cannot say anything about him here. Never watched one of his videos and as part of the show he did not impress me either. As for Hale, I have watched Pretty Little Liars in its entirety, so really familiar with her. Always found her pretty stunning, but as an actress she has to blow me away still. Also kinda fitting that a little short-lived PLL spinoff was nominated that day. By the way, the entire ceremony took place outside at the beach. I mean why not if the weather is this great. No complaints for me there. There is a lot of other stuff to complain when it comes to this event anyway. I am not really sure what the duration here was because there were commercial breaks every ten minutes almost it seemed. Maybe twelve. They basically got in some brief hosting and introduction plus one award or performance and then boom the next commercial break happens. No excuse for that honestly. I found it truly pathetic. As for the people there, especially those receiving awards, I cannot be any gentle really unfortunately. It was an embarrassment. But also the basic execution. I mean they had so many categories that got left out and this is fairly disrespectful to the winners and nominees although honestly with this show's prestige right now, they probably should not care at all. Also what the announced said before each commercial break and God knws there were many was a bad joke honestly. Like we are led to believe that certain people will show up immediately after the break, but truth is it takes for over half an hour. Then again, if you are waiting for the likes of Taylor Swift and the Jonas Brothers who were both receiving career awards, then perhaps you deserve to be fooled honestly. Swift's introduction was especially cringeworthy with the video that emphasized all her efforts that involved the good cause and also ho she screamed when the announcer talked about her "fight" for wage equality. In general, a good idea, but honestly with Swift and most other music starlets these days I seriously doubt their involvement in these fields has any other motivation than boosting themselves and make them look good. I applaud those who do stuff like that and do not feel the need to tell the world. These are the true heroes.

Okay, as for the competitive awards, it was not looking any better. No clue why I liked Downey once. Really can't stand him anymore. He was there, so he got the award during the broadcast and also tried really hard to show us how good he is with children. Scarlett Johansson got the award in the same category, just for females, and she was not there, so she was excluded. Where's your gender equality there. Almost everybody else who won an awards was there, however. I kinda feel they told the winners already to convince them to show up. Good to see Scarjo still didn't. Somebody else who wasn't there made a video message at least. Was it Mendes? Not 100% sure. But I know that Eilish, who won the female equivalent, was not featured during the show either. A bit surprised teens are going for her already, but I guess maybe her music is generally for younger audience more than I thought. Still think she's pretty overrated, especially with her Grammy domination. Honestly, checking the list now, and there were so, so many winners that got completely excluded to an extent where I would almost say the entire show felt pointless. At least they imported another group from Korea if they could not get BTS. I mean not that I'd think much of the latter. They (as well as their lesser-known copycats in here) may be solid with dancing and the choreography, but let's not go into detail about the singing. No clue what people see in them. Needless to say BTS also won an award here. Actually, four awards I see. Well, this got way under the radar. There you see what a poor job this show did with its honors. On the film side, the (then) most recent Avengers film dominated. Meh.. could be worse honestly and nice to see Brolin won for his villain character. In terms of shows, Riverdale succeeded considerably. Cannot talk really about this one. Never seen it, but I see one of the Zack&Cody boys is in there (and won too), but that also does not really increase my interest. Lots of singing too and performances. I guess this is where the time went that did not get used for awards. Never really like it. If i want video music, I go for a concert DVD. Anyway, except the Korean (fe)males there were other artists too. All very forgettable really. Perhaps Mabel was the only one that at least slightly convinced me. catchy number. Just like Old Town Road. That one was not performed on stage, but won one category and was nominated in two others. Okay I think this is it. A lot of cringe came with this show like of course the host not knowing he would be given an award during the show (sorry, an actor he is not) or the shark idea was actually kinda cute, but maybe for teenage audiences already too childish and I am saying this with the knowledge that I as a fully-grown man enjoyed it more than I should. But I am different compared to everybody else. Okay, that is pretty much all I have to say about this event. It was not good. Very generic, very forgettable and almost no talent here whatsoever honestly. This is definitely not the program that you as a responsible and caring parent want your teenage kid (no matter if boy or girl) to grow up with. Also it was so uninteresting and bland. I am sure almost everybody forgot about it already days after it took plays. Big thumbs-down. Highly not recommended. Oh yes, final note: The sports people also did not get any screen time. Pity. I would have liked to see Curry there. Serena not so much. Nina Dobrev still winning awards, even if her vampire show is over and PewDiePie also did not show up. Boy, you can see how much time has passed by looking at Maddie Ziegler. Attractive young woman now. Okay, that is really all. Definitely skip and go for a walk with your kid once this is one. Way better choice to spend your time than this mess we got here.
