Chris Rock’s live stand-up special on Netflix didn’t break through in the streamer’s global rankings, but it definitely caught on with U.S. viewers.
In the nine days after its March 4 release, Chris Rock: Selective Outrage racked up almost 1.22 billion minutes of viewing, including 798 million for the week of March 6-12. The 1.22 billion minutes equate to about 20.3 million full runs of the hourlong special.
For just the March 6-12 frame, Nielsen’s tally of 798 million minutes for Selective Outrage works out to 13.3 million hours — about three fourths of the 17.79 million hours worldwide the special recorded in Netflix’s internal measurements. (Nielsen and Netflix use different methodologies to compute their watch-time stats, but it’s safe to say the bulk of the special’s viewing came from the United States.) Netflix’s popular reality TV series, Next in Fashion, is back and better than ever. The reality show follows a crop of talented designers who compete to see who is the next big thing in the fashion world. With $200,000 on the line, the designers were willing to pull out all the stops to showcase their best work. However, there was no shortage of challenges for the competitors to overcome in order to claim the top prize. The Next in Fashion winner had to contend with long days, tight deadlines, and restrictions in order to win the sophomore season. They also had to overcome how starstruck they were around Gigi Hadid.

Though there has always been nepotism in the entertainment industry, it’s been a huge topic in the zeitgeist as of late. Thanks to the Internet, people can find out who famous actors, models, musicians, and more are connected to with just the click of a button. In recent years, the term “nepo baby” has been adopted to describe those in entertainment who have famous family members and, therefore, built-in connections to their chosen industry. But while some celebrities shy away from or outright reject the label, Gigi Hadid seems to be embracing it. The model recently opened up about her privilege.

Next in Fashion Season 2 returned to Netflix at the beginning of the month. However, there was a huge shake-up to the cast for the sophomore season. In addition to a whole new crop of designers, the season also boasts a new co-host and celebrity judge. While Tan France returned to the show for its new season, Alexa Chung was absent from the reality TV series. Instead, Gigi Hadid took over the role that previously belonged to Chung. Fortunately, the supermodel had a wonderful rapport with France. But considering the duo were besties before they ever began filming the show, this isn’t too much of a shock.

Next in Fashion returned to Netflix for season 2 earlier this month, but not everyone returned. While Tan France reprised his role as a host and celebrity judge for the show, his co-host, Alexa Chung, was noticeably missing. In the sophomore season of the fashion reality TV show, Gigi Hadid took over Chung’s role as the co-host. The supermodel seemed to bring a breath of fresh air to the series, lending her sunny disposition to the show while also providing valuable critiques. In fact, France seems to think that the show was liberating for Hadid in a lot of ways.

Netflix’s first live stand-up special, starring Chris Rock, pulled in enough viewers to make the streamer’s top 10 shows in the United States last week. It could not, however, break into the worldwide rankings.
The latter result was expected within Netflix, given that Chris Rock: Selective Outrage — the platform’s first foray into live programming — was released Saturday night in the United States, as opposed to Thursday or Friday for most of the streamer’s shows, and has a running time (one hour) far shorter than the typical Netflix series.
Despite those structural disadvantages, though, Selective Outrage placed seventh in the United States for the week of Feb. 27-March 5. Netflix doesn’t break down viewing time by country, supplying figures only for its global top 10. The company’s 10th ranked English-language series worldwide for the week, season two of Next in Fashion, piled up 16.16 million hours of viewing (but did not make the U.

Following its March 4 live debut, Chris Rock’s “Selective Outrage” standup special opened to promising figures as Netflix’s first jump into live content. During the Feb. 27-March 5 viewing window, the special managed to land on the Netflix Top 10 US chart on the English-language TV list at No. 7 despite a small window of availability.

Chris Rock’s controversial Netflix special has cracked the streamer’s Top 10 TV list in the U.S. with just one day of viewing data.
After airing live on Saturday night, “Chris Rock: Selective Outrage” ranked No. 7 in TV shows watched in the U.S. for the week as viewers caught the one-episode special Saturday evening through Sunday.
The special came several slots behind “Outer Banks” Season 3 as the drama’s third edition maintained its top spot on the English TV list with 99 million hours viewed. As fans caught up on the sprawling treasure hunt that took the Pogues from Obx to Barbados and back, “Outer Banks” Seasons 1 and 2 also remained on the list with 34 million hours viewed and 27.7 million hours viewed, respectively, as the series dominated last week’s list following the Season 3 release on Feb. 23.
Romantic drama “Sex/Life” Season 2 also entered the Top 10 list with 43.9 million hours viewed.

The streamers, led by Netflix, moved into the non-scripted entertainment space in a serious way about five years ago.
This coupled with the fact that the broadcast networks were still having disproportionate success with unscripted shows, opened plenty of opportunities for producers to create new entertainment formats.
Enter former MasterChef showrunner Robin Ashbrook and Yasmin Shackleton, also an exec producer on the Fox cooking show, who launched The Old School, an independent production company in 2018 with Netflix’s The Final Table, the streamer’s first significant move into the food space.
Since then, the pair have worked with the likes of Helen Mirren, Tan France, Alexa Chung and Gigi Hadid on a number of shiny floor entertainment shows.

With the sleepy release months of January and February behind us, the time has come to enter March, where a deluge of exciting titles await. Prepare for the much-anticipated return of fan-favorite TV series: everything from "The Mandalorian" and "Ted Lasso" to "Succession" and "Yellowjackets." Even "Riverdale" is on the way back, if that's the kind of chaos that you're into! But enough about other streaming services — what's going on over at Netflix, the Og spot for a weekend binge?
The streamer has recently revealed their release slate, detailing everything to come in March 2023 and there's a lot going on. March is a time for madness, whether it comes from basketball, Mercury retrograde, or a person’s home streaming habits. Netflix joins in on the chaos by updating its library with all three “Hangover” movies, a whole lot of workout content, “Magic Mike Xxl,” and much, much more.
On March 9, the streamer will premiere Part 2 of “You” Season 2, starring Penn Badgley, Charlotte Ritchie, and Ed Speleers. The five remaining episodes find Joe (Badgley) trapped in a volatile dance with London mayoral candidate and serial killer Rhys (Speleers), trying to prevent more murders but also not go down for the many he’s committed in the process. The trailer shows Joe and Kate (Ritchie) growing closer, more brushes with Kate’s wealthy socialite friends, and the return of Victoria Pedretti as Joe’s wife Love — or maybe the ghost of his wife, and of sins past.

France is known as one of the Fab Five in Netflix’s Emmy-winning makeover hit, “Queer Eye.” The NY Times best-selling author and influential tastemaker also fronted Netflix’s global fashion design competition series “Next in Fashion,” and also hosts popular celebrity makeover series “Dressing Funny” on Netflix’s YouTube channel Netflix Is A Joke.
In the newly created position, France will work with newly appointed advisory chair Georgia Brown, head of European originals for Amazon; festival creative director Stewart Clarke, a former Variety correspondent; and the festival’s advisory board to shape and curate this year’s event.

Netflix has produced many hit TV shows over the past seven years, ever since they started pumping out their own original programming. However, the streaming service has developed a reputation for not letting its series go on for too long. Fans know to be wary of getting attached to their favorite new Netflix shows as they could be unceremoniously cancelled after one or two seasons.
Earlier today, for instance, Hilary Swank vehicle Away was given the chop by the company after just a single outing. This makes it the 56th original series that Netflix has cancelled. That number only includes shows that were original to the platform and produced in-house, so it doesn’t count pick-ups like Lucifer, for example. Those series luckily enough to end on the creators’ own terms, such as House of Cards, are likewise not included. Shows that were axed by Netflix before being picked up elsewhere,...

Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn were perennial Emmy nominees as hosts of “Project Runway,” contending together every year from 2013 to 2018, which was their last season before stepping down from the long-running fashion competition series. They came back this spring with a new series, Amazon’s “Making the Cut,” which means they’re back on the Emmy ballot for Best Reality Host. If they get back in with another nom, Klum will set a new record as the most nominated host of all time.
Klum was first nominated for Best Reality Host in 2008, the inaugural year for that award, but she lost three times in a row to Jeff Probst (“Survivor”). Then she fell out of the category in 2011 and 2012, but when she was entered for consideration alongside “Runway” mentor Gunn, they were nominated in 2013, and they even won that race. To date that still makes them the only hosting duo to prevail in that category.

“Queer Eye” has won Best Structured Reality Program at the Emmys twice in a row (2018-2019), which is why it’s so strange that its quintet of co-hosts has never been recognized by the television academy, even with a nomination. Could Bobby Berk, Karamo Brown, Tan France, Antoni Porowski and Jonathan Van Ness finally break through in the race for Best Reality Host? They’ll have to overcome the television academy’s unusual bias against non-competitive shows.
The Emmys introduced the Best Reality Host category in 2008. And though hosts of both competitive and non-competitive reality shows have always been eligible, that first list of nominees was strictly competitive: Tom Bergeron (“Dancing with the Stars”), Heidi Klum (“Project Runway”), Howie Mandel (“Deal or No Deal”), Ryan Seacrest (“American Idol”) and winner Jeff Probst (“Survivor”).

When “Project Runway” premiered on Bravo in 2004, it entered a crowded reality competition landscape but still managed to be the first of its kind as a fashion design competition. Now, more than a decade and a half later, such fashion series are seeing a surge.
“Project Runway” alone has launched more than six spinoffs, seen franchise expansion in new countries and undergone a major revamp. But streamers Netflix and Amazon Prime Video also recently got in the game with “Next in Fashion” and “Making the Cut,” respectively.
“Everything in the world has changed,” says former “Project Runway” winner and now mentor Christian Siriano. “But what I think stays the same is that people are still really interested in the process of how fashion comes to life — how it’s created.”

Of all the major Primetime Emmy categories, the competition program field has been the most in need of a shakeup. This is a not-so-amazing race that rarely changes — although this year, ironically, “The Amazing Race” won’t be a part of it.
For the first time since the category launched in 2003, “The Amazing Race” — which won the competition series Emmy 10 times — won’t be among the nominees, as it didn’t air during the eligibility period. That will open the door for at least one new nominee — and maybe more, given the recent TV Academy rule that allows up to eight slots depending on how many programs are submitted.
Turnover in the competition race has moved at a glacial pace. Last year, Netflix’s “Nailed It” entered the category, displacing “Project Runway,” but in 2018, the five nominees were the same as 2017. And then there’s the fact that only four...
