He emotionally manipulated his mother into doing those trials, went behind Kevin's back and struck the first blow with seemingly little remorse. What Kevin said was disgusting but it was clearly in retaliation and you could tell he regretted his choice of words. Next season is going to be VERY interesting...

And I now hate Randall....

Warning: Spoilers
I've always had much respect for Randall, but he's now doing all he can to make himself feel better and not help others. He manipulated Rebecca into the clinical trial so he relieves himself of future guilt and then all the horrible things he said to Kevin?!?! I'm disgusted with him. Amazing episode. Can't wait for the next season. But I hope he has to severely face the repercussions of these actions he has taken.
What this show does best
lesterholt25 March 2020
This finale delivers on all levels! All the lead up is paid off (somewhat), including the main story arc of Rebeca's clinical trial. This episode brings many storylines into one explosive scene that hits emotionally in a very unique way. This show continues to manage multiple generations, stories, and plots without turning into a huge mess, as this episode could have easily been. But they deliver once again! As always full satisfaction is not guaranteed as we get even more teases into the future of the Pearson clan that leave you wanting more, but you will not deny the thrill-ride experience as the credits roll for the last time in Season 4.
KEVIN'S SEASON!!
bettttycooper25 March 2020
Ok first of all thank you to everyone who makes THIS IS US possible!!! This show is so amazing. Season 4 was by far better than season 3 and even 2!! I really loved how the characters got development this season!!! I think we can all agree that this was Kevin's best season! He grew as a person! Helped so many people! Helped his uncle nicky!! Got sobber! Learned to accept himself and kept trying to be a better man for his family! Literally built a house to make Jack's dream come true and took care of his mom in the way she wanted unlike Rendall! Obviously Rendall was a fan favorite from day 1 but Kevin is by far a better AND more popular character now because he kept growing and unlike Rendall who went downhill kept getting higher and higher! Now don't get me wrong. I still have hopes for Rendall but the point of my review is THE CHARACTER DEVEPLOMENT in this season for KEVIN, KATE, DAJA AND EVEN NICKY! Also all the actors did a fantastic job this season! STERLING , JUSTIN , MANDY ESPECIALY! I'm so happy with this season hopefully they keep it up like they always do!!! Can't wait for season 5! GREAT JOB EVERYONE!
Siblings can be vicious

Warning: Spoilers
I've always said that no one can hurt you as deeply as a sibling can. They know you so well that they can place the knife precisely where it will do the most damage. As a sister with two brothers, the down and dirty exchange near the end of this episode felt appallingly realistic to me, and so did the intimation of forgiveness. It's a primal love/hate thing.
Yay KEVIN

I have strong feelings about this one.. I have been trying to follow Randall's train of thought this whole season and give him the benefit of the doubt but I finally have to say I can't get on board with him any longer! Even Beth has doubts, which of course she does because she is the only one who can question him. (love her!) I also think they really robbed us of the subject "if Jack had lived" by making it all about Randall (like always!). But just when I'm thinking I need more Kevin and way less Randall they come through. I was thrilled to see that it was Madison because I love her also (still not believing she will be his wife though) I'm excited to see how Kevin will grow even more than he has, who is Mickeys wife!?, and so excited to see how Kate and Toby do with their new journey (thank goodness they are finally giving them more to talk about than weight)
Anyway.. I was really scared for this finale because of all the ways they could have messed it up but it delivered!
Pearson vs Pearson
smmtomas-5296827 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This was, by far, one of the most intense episodes in the series, specially when it concerns que epic battle between the 2 Pearson boys. And although Randall's always been a favorite of mine, right now I cannot stop to throw up at his sight. His psychological issues came to a point where his actions are irrational, self centered and petty. Boo, Randall! For the first time, I'm team Kevin! And even though his reply to Randall's cruel remarks was totally exaggerated and inexcusable, Kevin is a total hero in what taking care of his mother is concerned. So anxious for next season!

I dont have words for this season finale, its amazing how the characters make life and magic at the same time, everyone gets the super emotional moment, i love how everything is connected with so many details! The 10 goes to Kevin! It was his season, and he deserved it! Wooooow!
So many emotions

WOW! So many emotions so many thoughts and so many characters and twists to unfold for S5 but WOW what a finale - gotta say Rebecca and Jack and Kevin were the stand outs for me and cannot wait to know all the new characters
YES KEVIN!!!

I used to love Randall. Until season 3, I could understand every decision that he did... but this episode and the last one completely destroyed the image that I had of him. When he said that Jack died disappointed with Kevin, my heart was completely broken. Jack probably was thanking God and the hole universe that Kevin didn't have to go through that fire.
I think the person that most changed through all seasons was Kevin. In the beginning I really thought that he was a terrible brother to Randall, but he helped him so much. He gave up his first play for Randall, he went to Randall's school just to sign a paper and help him with his anxiety. He helped a lot and he cared a lot.
He was right about Rebecca's wishes, but Randall just couldn't handle the fact that he doesn't control everyone!!!
I really think that Kevin regretted what he said, but Randall deserved that. And I hope that Rebecca doesn't go to that clinical trial. She was completely manipulated by Randall. He has serious problems and I hope that in the end, he fixes his control issues.

Maybe there was too much hype around it
tenealesharman27 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I really hate to say it but this episode really didn't live up to the hype, or what I should say is, what I expected based on the hype. I don't know if anything was more shocking then the end of season 3 seeing Rebecca sick.
Without reading any spoilers it was obvious something big was going to happen between Kevin and Randall. I'm interested to know how baby jack's relevance was justified (although the connection made at the end of s4e1 was brilliant) showing him as an adult and having a baby. I think it was very obvious that Kate's friend would get pregnant after she slept with Kevin. And a few shots of nicki and Kevin with wedding rings...meh. And the part where jack and Rebecca went to see the doctor again on big 3's first birthday I found a bit flat 😔
I know so much hard work has gone into this episode and I adore this series, I just feel for me this was a letdown

My waiting for this season came with a great result
A magnificent 4th season with all its details, there is no bad or average episode . Every single one is great and what a finale 👏👏
Amazing storylines and specially randall , a great performance from all the cast specially from sterling k. Brown . A great build for the next season . Everything is great and i am happy
If This Is Us continued with the same performance in the next seasons , it would be easily from the greatest

This show is one of the best on tv! Each season just pulls you in more and more. The characters have amazing chemistry and they bring you in to their lives and you feel like you're on this journey with them. The writers on this show are just brilliant. I love this show and really can't wait to see what's up next for the Big Three!!
Future time with characters age mismatch.

In this episode's flash forward we can see a Jack Jr with about 20 yo. being father, at the same time Rebecca is passing away. In this scene Kevin has twins of about 10 yo...? Are 2 different flash forwards ? These kids greet Kevin with a distant "hello dad", does this mean a "separate" condition ? Lots of intrigues to be revealed in season 5 !
I was rooting for you Kevin, until...

No matter how irrational Randall was, Kevin went too far when he said this. Imagine telling your adoptive brother "I wish we haven't adopted you", if it's from Kid Kevin or even teenage Kevin, I think it would be bearable. But from the adult Kevin??? I know it's always been a ticking bomb with their relationship and this confrontation was so overdue
Holy Moly!

Sometimes I feel I lecture too much in my reviews. I'll only say it once. Don't lower the score because you don't like the way a character is acting! This is an amazing episode. If anything, there may be too much crammed into it. First of all, we have the first birthday of little Jack. We have an exciting future move for Kate and Toby. We see events in the future when Jack, the musician, and his wife have a baby. There's more, but at the center is the clash of forces when Randall literally extorts his mother into going to the St. Louis clinic. He betrays his siblings. Of course, inis head, he believes that he was what saved the family. Of course, he was a solid force, but life isn't just about him. Kevin finds out what he did and they have an incredibly ugly final scene. Kevin also gets some pretty remarkable news and after all these years he needs to grow up. We are given a look at Rebecca's future and the futures of the others. Season Five is going to be quite amazing. Finally, am I dense. Who's the redhead with the horse?
Seriously?
