What this episode does best is showcase the relationships between everyone and just how much they love each other. Every aspect of it was just funny and heartbreaking at the same time. So great!!

The human side...

While I have very "liberal" views on immigration, even people who don't can see this, and understand how DACA is so important. Mateo was just a child when he came to the US, and didn't even realize that he was undocumented (the story for many immigrants who came here as kids/babies). He was a model employee, and the only reason any of this came about was because of scare tactics that corporate was doing to prevent them from unionizing. It's EXACTLY the sneaky and underhanded tactics some "major retailers" do to prevent their employees from trying to be in a union. Heads up, because unions are being busted all over the country. Unions are being weakened all over the country.

Incredible, real life

This episode changed me. I never understood the devastation that comes from ICE raids. This episode has heart, humor, and humility. Very proud that the show writers are taking on the important issues to spread awareness. This episode makes me laugh and cry every time I watch it.

This episode did a wonderful job at showcasing the relationships and bonds the employees have formed with each other. I know some may not enjoy it due to the lack of comedy in the final stretch of the episode, but I personally watch this show more for the characters than anything else so I enjoyed seeing everyone come together to help Mateo.

Employee Appreciation Day is incredibly movie, with Mateo being hunted down by ICE and it ain't pretty. Anyway, Employee Appreciation Day brings home the plight of undocumented migrants, like Mateo, to the fore and makes it real and human and sadly ICE is inhumane. Anyway, I'm enjoying watching Superstore and I can't wait to watch seasons five and six and seeing how Superstore ends.

Amy's views towards unions start to turn as she see's the inhumane and insensitive manner that Mateo was treated, and we'll see what happens in season five to see if Amy continues to pull her weight towards unions.

It's about as funny as most episodes. Mark McKinney is on the spot with comic timing as always. If you haven't checked out Kids in the Hall you are missing his best work.

Then surprisingly in a few places it gets kinda more real than usual.

Some of that is season finale business. But overall by the end of it I felt quite emotional.

I have to give kudos to the writers for developing some of the more 2 dimensional characters in this season and doing multi-episode story arc around unionization. This is after all a sitcom. So it is surprising to see them take chances and for the most part it reaps rewards.
