Okino is an oiran (head courtesan) in the red lights quarter of Edo. Her youth is gone, the flow of clients is getting sparse, and she decides to quit the profession and return to her village. However, leaving the quarter is not an easy task if you don't have a lot of money.
But cunning Okino finds a way. She commissions the help of Yaji, poor widower, who makes ends meet by crafting toys out of dough. Kind and naive, Yaji can't resist Okino's "professional" charms, and agrees to help. Yaji's friend, hapless actor Kita also joins the party in hopes of starting his carrier over in another city.
And so begins the journey of these funny and likable misfits across Japan. They will encounter colorful characters, incredible and amusing situations, and by the end of the journey they will have found real understanding, sincere friendship and true love.
I loved the movie. It was funny and very warm, three main actors did incredible job, creating amusing and interesting characters, and their facial expressions were to die for! The cinematography and music were also very enjoyable. If you are looking for a nice lighthearted Japanese comedy - look no further. Lovely!
