Our 20 Most Anticipated Movies Of 2010

As we come to the end of 2009, it’s time to look forward and put together our list of our most anticipated movies of 2010.
Last year could have been worse – 5 of our 10 most anticipated movies of 2009 turned out to live up to our expectations (including Watchmen, Up, and Star Trek), while the other five ranged from mediocre (Public Enemies) to downright disappointing (Terminator Salvation, Wolverine, Transformers 2). Of course “most anticipated” does not necessarily mean “movies we think are going to be awesome” – it’s “movies we hope are going to be awesome.”
This year the task was made a lot easier thanks to our senior editor Kofi Outlaw putting together Screen Rant’s 2010 movie preview, giving us a one-stop list from which to gather the biggies. While last year was a group effort, this year I’ve decided to pull rank and come up with the list myself, with

Hoping to earn the hand of Marion and salvage the village, Robin assembles a gang whose lethal mercenary skills are matched only by their appetite for life.

"Robin Hood" could be one of Hollywood movies which are released in 3-D theaters. According to The Wrap, a source close to the project told them that director Ridley Scott "is breathing down the neck of executives" at Universal Pictures to give an approval for making a 3-D version of his action adventure film.
Additionally, the site claimed they have got information from a knowledgeable source who said it would cost only an additional $7 to $8 million to create a 3-D version of "Robin Hood." The extra money that will be needed for the 3-D conversion is considerably small compared to $200 million that has been spent on the epic movie.
Based on the Robin Hood legend, the film follows Sir Robin Hood of Locksley, Earl of Huntington, who has returned to Nottingham after fighting in the Third Crusade and finding the oppression caused by the new Sheriff of Nottingham. Using his intelligence and military skills,

Universal Pictures has released a brand new one-sheet and a new quad poster for the upcoming adventure Robin Hood, which is set for release on May 14, 2010. The film stars Russell Crowe, reuniting with director Ridley Scott, to bring back the classic story of Robin Hood once again to the big screen. In this incarnation we find that it is the late 12th century England and Sir Robin Hood of Locksley, Earl of Huntington, (Russell Crowe) has returned to his North English village after fighting in the Third Crusade. Upon arrival, the nobleman and his servant discover the oppression caused by the new Sheriff of Nottingham (Matthew Macfadyen). Sir Robin uses his intelligence and military skills to free for his home village from tyranny and corruption in England, by taking back what is rightfully his, and by taking back what rightfully is their, to restore justice and happiness to England. First Posters From Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood

For your viewing pleasure, Collider presents some pictures of Russell Crowe looking pissed off. The good news is, they weren’t taken at the Mercer Hotel and a blood-caked telephone is nowhere to be seen. Rather, they’re international posters for director Ridley Scott’s highly anticipated Robin Hood. They feature Crowe (apparently fresh off a screening of Zombieland) in close-up, pointing a ready-to-fire bow and arrow menacingly right at your face.
The message here seems to be in line with that of the original North American trailer: Robin Hood is a badass and this summer you should come watch him do lots of badass stuff. In many ways, it’s reminiscent of the campaign that launched Zack Snyder’s 300. I know some people have taken issue with this, but I’m really not concerned. With a name like Ridley Scott attached, you know you’re in store for a

The first poster for Ridley Scott's Robin Hood is out and it's... all right, it's pretty dull. But technically it's just a teaser poster so it's not supposed to be amazing on its own -- it's just intended to arouse interest.
So does the sight of star Russell Crowe aiming a bow and arrow at an unseen enemy while bleeding arouse you(r interest) in any way? Let us know in the comments and make sure to check out the trailer here.
The official plot synopsis for those of you just joining Robin Hood and his Merry Men:
[Robin Hood] chronicles the life of an expert archer, previously interested only in self-preservation, from his service in King Richard’s army against the French. We got our first trailer for Ridley Scott’s “Robin Hood” last week and now Yahoo! released a new international trailer and it’s better than the first one.
Oscar winner Russell Crowe stars as the titular character, alongside Oscar winner Cate Blanchett (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) as the lovely Maid Marion and co-stars Vanessa Redgrave, William Hurt (The Incredible Hulk, Mr. Brooks), Mark Strong (Kick-Ass, Sherlock Holmes), Kevin Durand, Saoirse Ronan and Scott Grimes.
Crowe plays the expert archer Robin Hood who leads a band of marauders to confront corruption and lead an uprising against the English crown. Wait a second, that looks a lot like the photo we used in our trailer article. But then again, who didn't think Universal would whip up posters for Ridley Scott's Robin Hood with Russell Crowe pointing an arrow at somebody. I'm featuring this, thanks to our UK friends at HeyUGuys, because I'm curious about how they're going to market this movie. I have a feeling a poster like this (probably the Us version with the same photo) will be the first thing that some people will see from this new Robin Hood. And I'm wondering if they're going to look at this and think "awesome" or "lame"? What are your first thoughts looking at this poster?

About a week ago, I got to speak to an actor whose work I really admire: Mark Strong (IMDb resume). While many of you might not know his name, if you ever saw Body of Lies, he played a character named Hani Salaam and he was the best performance in the film. Since then, Strong has booked a ton of very high profile gigs in some of Hollywood’s biggest movies. Clearly people noticed his work and as a fan, I’m excited to see him in more movies.
Anyway, the reason I got to speak with him is he plays the villainous Lord Blackwood in director Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes. During out conversation we discussed the promotional process for Sherlock Holmes and what he’s had to do, working for Guy Ritchie again, what he did to prepare for the role, and so much more.
And for fans of Peter Weir,

Second Robin Hood Trailer is Less Gladiator, More Robin Hood

I can’t wait for Ridley Scott’s “Robin Hood”. Give this guy a big budget, a couple hundred extras with broadswords, and he always turns in a pretty worthy 2 hours or so. If nothing else, the action is going to be worth the price of admission. That looks to be the case with “Robin Hood” after seeing the first trailer. Here’s the second trailer, which eschews much of the “Gladiator”-esque action and feel of the first one in favor of, you know, actually showing more Robin Hood-esque action. Overall, I liked this one much better, if only because it stays truer to the character and is not nearly as bombastic.

Another trailer for Robin Hood has appeared, this time it's the international version. Why is it the internation versions of posters and trailers are almost always better than the domestic ones? Why do we get screwed? After all, we're the ones who made the movie, so why do they get such cool stuff overseas? Our domestic marketing people suck. Anyways, this trailer shows more of Russell Crowe channeling Gladiator, Braveheart, and now Robin Hood, while Cate Blanchett reaches back into her bag of Elizabeth and makes her dopey looking scream face when she swings a sword.Oscar winner Russell Crowe stars as the legendary figure known by generations as "Robin Hood," whose exploits have endured in popular mythology and ignited the imagination of those who share his spirit of adventure and righteousness. Last week Universal Pictures gave us the new domestic trailer for Robin Hood. Today it’s the new International trailer for Ridley Scott’s new movie which is scheduled for release 14th May 2010.
This latest version of everyone’s favourite do-gooder stars Cate Blanchett and Russell Crowe and is one of the movies due out next year which I’m most looking forward to. This new version gives us our first look at Blanchett weilding her bow and arrow along with a bit more action of how Hood and his Merry Men take on the Sheriff of Nottingham’s men. We also get our first look at the castle which featured in the HeyUGuys set visit a while back. You can see our inside look of the Surrey set footage here.

It's the shortest day of the year, but here's a bonus ray of sunshine to keep you going: a Robin Hood international trailer with England's legendary hero once again giving the Sheriff of Nottingham and the powers that be a very bad day. And yes, that's Russell Crowe channelling Sean Bean as Hood himself. This trailer makes it even more clear that Ridley Scott's film will not just centre on robbing from the rich to give to the poor in the forests around Nottingham, but all-out bloody civil war against Prince John (Oscar Isaac), with the help of Cate Blanchett's Maid Marion. The film's out on May 14, 2010. If you’re the kind of person that needs dialogue in a movie trailer, the new international Robin Hood trailer is for you. Because unlike the first trailer (from last week) which featured almost no dialogue and a lot of music, this new one is a more straight forward selling of the movie.
While the story of Robin Hood has been told a million times in movies and on TV, I’ll admit to being very excited about this new version. After all, with Ridley Scott directing and a cast featuring Russell Crowe, Cate Blanchett, William Hurt, Mark Strong, Danny Huston, and Max von Sydow, how can you not be? Also, as a huge fan of Gladiator, I’m extremely excited to see Crowe and Scott team up again on an action film.
Hit the jump to check out the trailer. Robin Hood gets released May 14, 2010.
