I pretty much gave up on M. Night Shyamalan after his last two crappy films, "Lady in the Water" and "The Happening."
But I'm pleased to report that the teaser trailer for "The Last Airbender" is actually interesting. But then again, the trailer for "The Happening" was great too...until I saw the film.
We can at least hope that "Slumdog Millionaire's" Dev Patel will spread his magic to "The Last Airbender."
We have to wait until July 2 of next year before we can watch the film, so enjoy the teaser trailer for now.

Long before "Jai Ho" entered the international lexicon, the gap between Hollywood and Bollywood had already been shrinking. In distinctly Western style, much of the action has occurred behind the scenes: Indian cable TV magnate and Bollywood producer Ronnie Screwvala's Utv Software Communications has co-produced the latest Hollywood films from Indian filmmakers M. Night Shyamalan ("The Happening") and Mira Nair ("The Namesake"), in addition to making financing deals with Sony and Will Smith's production company Overbrook Entertainment; Disney and Warner Brothers have begun to finance their own Bollywood productions; and last year, Reliance, one of India's biggest producer of Bollywood films, made production pacts with the companies of Nicolas Cage, George Clooney and Brad Pitt before making their biggest coup -- financing DreamWorks, an investment that allowed the Steven Spielberg-led studio to leave its deal at Paramount.
However, Hollywood and Bollywood have been a little less quick

Looks like M. Night Shyamalan may just be able to turn things around after that whole The Happening fiasco. First, he unleashed the first teaser for the fantasy adventure adaptation The Last Airbender that totally rocked the casbah and now he's activated a spooktastic official site, complete with interactive goodness. There's a lot of fun to be had now and there's sure to be a lot of fun added later so go give it a look-see. The Last Airbender opens July 2nd, 2010.

The teaser trailer for M. Night Shyamalan's The Last Airbender adaptation as arrived online, and you can check it out by clicking on the Trailer tab above. The trailer debuted theatrically today ahead of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.
M. Night Shymalan's upcoming fantasy adventure film, based on the popular Nickelodeon cartoon series Avatar: The Last Airbender, takes place in a world where individuals called "Benders" can control the four elements. Although the titular character is able to fly, move at super-speed and even wield air as a weapon, he is much more than that—in the original cartoon, at least. As the "Avatar", he was born with the potential to master all four elements, which made him especially dangerous to the expansionist Fire Nation, which killed all the other airbenders to get to him (Don’t think I gave anything away; this movie, after all, is called The Last Airbender

It's quite rare to have something family friendly posted here at Qe, in fact the only other thing I can think of is City of Ember (which rocked). I'm a big fan of Shyamalan's later work like The Village and Lady in the Water (yeah I know I'm in the minority) but after The Debacle (read: The Happening) I'm a bit war of where this one could go. It starts off with a scene that's probably in countless other martial art flicks, but the ending is.. priceless. The film is based on the first season of the animated television series Avatar: The Last Airbender.
The story follows the adventures of Aang, a ten year old successor to a long line of Avatars, who must put his childhood ways aside and stop the Fire Nation from enslaving the Water, Earth and Air nations.
How's that for more fantasy Ao?
Teaser after the break.

M. Night Shyamalan, the twisty turny Sixth Sense director, somewhat down on his luck following Lady in the Water and The Happening (although The Last Airbender looks promising), is prepping Unbreakable 2, according to MTV News.Shyamalan has been saying things like this since 2001. He doesn't have Bruce Willis or Samuel L. Jackson yet ("I don't know where [they] are... Sam is, like, Mr Comic Book now..."), and as of last October (MTV again) he hadn't written it yet and didn't quite have an idea: "I want a story to pop into my head". He also seriously fell out with Unbreakable's studio Disney after they rejected Lady in the Water. But if he's still talking it up, it's still something of a possibility, and a weirdo take on superheroes might sit quite well in the current Marvel-heavy movie climate. But is there anything left to say after Watchmen?

The First Images have surfaced of director M. Night Shyamalan's next movie, The Last Airbender, which began filming this month.
I reported last June on Shyamalan being signed to the film. He spoke then of what had attracted him to the project.
Based on the popular animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender, the live-action feature film is set in a world divided into four nations: Water, Earth, Air and Fire.
The Fire Nation is waging war against the other three nations. The film's reluctant hero Aang (played by Noah Ringer) is the Last Airbender who, according to prophecy, has the ability to manipulate all of the elements, end the war and bring all the nations together.
Aided by a teenage Waterbender named Katara (Nicola Peltz) and her brother Sokka, Aang sets off on a perilous journey to restore balance to their world.
Dev Patel plays the Fire Nation's evil prince Zuko,

M. Night Shyamalan, legendary director of such films as Bruce Willis' The Sixth Sense, Marc Wahlberg's The Happening, and Mel Gibson and once-actor Joaquin Phoenix's Signs, will make movie magic once more with 2010's The Last Airbender. Shyamalan hopes to turn cartoon flawlessness into cinematic majesty. From the looks of things, with photo stills from the film recently being offered up, he is well on his way. Bringing in The Twilight Saga: New Moon star Jackson Rathbone as Sokka, Slumdog Millionaire star Dev Patel as Zuko, Cliff Curtis as Firelord Ozai, Nicola Peltz as Katara, Noah Ringer as Aang, Jessica Andres as Suki, Shaun Toub as Uncle Iroh, and Aasif Mandvi as Commander Zhao, Shyamalan has

After the gigantic mess that was "The Happening," M. Night Shyamalan takes a break from mysterious horror and dives into the world of adapting animated television series. His next project is "The Last Airbender," which is based on Nickelodeon's "Avatar: The Last Airbender," and USA Today has the first two stills from the flick, which is set to open July 2, 2010. Check them out below and read more about the film here.
The first photo below shows Noah Ringer as lead character Aang, a young boy who heads out to stop the ruthless Firebenders from controlling the great nations. Dev Patel (in the second still) stars as the evil Prince Zuko. Jackson Rathbone, Nicola Peltz, Shaun Toub, Jessica Andres and Aasif Mandvi co-star.

USA Today has the first look at The Last Airbender, the live-action adaptation of the hit Nickelodeon cartoon series. The feature film was co-written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan for release July 2, 2010.
The theatrical date is aggressive for the holiday weekend, but will pit the movie against The Twilight Saga: Eclipse (the third movie out June 30) for now. If it appears weak it could be up against an earlier shift for Robert Rodriguez’s Predators or Christopher Nolan’s Inception.
Pictured left is Noah Ringer, a 12-year-old newcomer to Hollywood playing the title character. Officially named Aang, the young boy is the last remaining survivor of the peaceful Air Nomads. Together with a waterbender, he must stop Zuko of the Fire Nation from controlling the other elements. (Click to enlarge the photo)

M. Night Shyamalan’s adaption of the popular cartoon “Avatar: The Last Airbender” stars 12 year-old newcomer Noah Ringer, who is remarkbly similar in apperance to the original cartoon character he will portray on screen, ‘Aang’. He even earned ‘Aang’ as nickname for the likeness, before hew as even cast in the film.
Ringer is a black-belt tae kwon do martial arts expert, so was ideally suited for the role in just about every possible way. He landed the part by sending in a home made video of himself practicing martial arts. His character ‘Aang’ uses his incredible martial arts skills to manipulate the weather and other elements.
“Slumdog Millionaire” actor Dev Patel stars alongside Ringer, in his first big screen job since the incredible Oscar success of Slumdog. Patel is also a martial arts expert, and has a a black-belt in tae kwon do. “I started watching it in my trailer in India,

Something happened to M. Night Shyamalan. After The Sixth Sense the guy just had so much potential which he lived up to with Unbreakable, and then Signs. Um, we all know what happened next. Now USA Today has published these first two photos of Noah Ringer as Aang and Dev Patel as Prince Zuko in Shyamalan's next film The Last Airbender, and although I'm sad that Shyamalan is not directing his original material anymore, I just have to think about The Village, The Happening, and Lady In The Water to bring me back down to earth.

Dimension Films has just released a new trailer for The Road, starring Viggo Mortenson and Charlize Theron and based on the novel by Cormac McCarthy (No Country for Old Men).
The trailer makes the movie look like a bad combination of Danny Boyle's 28 Days Later, M. Night Shyamalan's The Happening, and Steven Spielberg's War of the Worlds. However, the novel is nothing like this, and the movie is directed by John Hillcoat, the Aussie who brought Nick Cave's fantastically dark Western The Proposition to cinematic life. So we're hopeful The Road will be nothing like the unfortunate trailer mishmash.
The movie is due in mid-October and will also star Guy Pearce and Robert Duvall. The story involves a father (Mortenson) and his son wandering south across a post-apocalyptic America, which is largely devoid of life, thus turning many people to cannibalism. Screenwriter Joe Penhall adapted the novel,
