The first season of 'Mind Your Language' proving an enormous hit, I.T.V. promoted the second to Saturday nights, alongside the U.S. series 'The Incredible Hulk' and the underrated 'Bruce Forsyth's Big Night'. Unfortunately for those of us in Wales, H.T.V. decided we must not be allowed to laugh on Saturdays, hence it replaced 'Language' with 'Sion a Sian', the Welsh version of 'Mr & Mrs', which was about as much fun as haemorrhoid's. When the game show ( thankfully ) finished its run, we got the remaining episodes.

At the conclusion of Season 1, Jeremy Brown's students took their English exams, and failed. Hence they were back for Season 2, augmented by two new faces - sexy Swede 'Ingrid Svenson' ( Anna Bergman, daughter of the film maker Ingmar ) and confused Hungarian 'Zoltan Szabo' ( Gabor Vernon ). Incidentallly, there was a boy in my class at school called 'Zoltan Szabo', and he came into the Registration Class each morning to be greeted by us singing ( badly ) the 'Mind Your Language' theme!.

The presence of a second 'babe' in the class upsets Danielle, and the insults start flying. The relationship between the women is every bit as hostile as that between Ali and Ranjeet. ( I personally found Jamila the most alluring female in Brown's class. Perhaps it was due to the sexy way she knitted! ). Martin Lambie-Nairn's credits were adjusted to reflect the changes in cast - with Danielle looking astonished as Ingrid sweeps past her into the room, and Zoltan holding up a wilting flower.

After the introductions have been completed, the plot kicks in. Thinking he has won the pools, Brown decides to quit his job and drafts a formal letter of resignation addressed to Miss Courtney. At the same time, he writes a love letter to Zoltan's girlfriend ( Zoltan not being able to speak English very well, much less write it ). You can see what is going to happen next, can't you? The letters get mixed up! Neither the 'Ingrid' nor 'Zoltan' characters made much impression on viewers, sadly, and they did not return for Season 3 ( though Ingrid was part of the 1986 revival produced by Albert Moses ).

Funniest moment - the frosty Miss Courtney reading Brown's love letter to Zoltan's girlfriend and thinking it is meant for her personally!
