Tina Fey was nominated for an Emmy for writing this episode, and I think she deserved at least the nomination. This may be the best episode in the first season of 30 Rock. In it, Tracy is scheduled to appear on Conan O'Brien's show, and the last time he had appeared there, he had insanely attacked Conan with knives believing himself to be a "stabbing robot." This is a quirky, creative joke, and it sets the tone of the episode. This is not an episode that's afraid to get weird.
And weirder it becomes when the staff begins to fear that Tracy in the present is too insane to appear on the show. His medication seems to fail him and he believes he's being threatened by a blue creature. You may think this is weird, but it's funny and it's different. And it lets us meet Dr. Spaceman, a funny and interesting character. This was one of the first episodes that I saw, and it led me to admire 30 Rock. Just a shame that there aren't many episodes as good as this.
