Mother and Child

Opens: 2010

Cast: Naomi Watts, Annette Bening, Samuel L. Jackson, Kerry Washington

Director: Rodrigo Garcia

Summary: A tale of a mother and daughter, separated at birth, who struggle with the damage done by the most important person missing in their lives while a young African-Americn woman deals with an unwanted pregnancy and the adoption process.

Analysis: Scoring rave reviews in Toronto, the $7 million latest effort of Rodrigo Garcia ("Nine Lives," "Things You Can Tell Just By Looking At Her") once again shows off his skill at weaving multiple narratives together in clever and unexpected ways. At its heart it's an emotional family drama, but Garcia excels with his female characters which makes the involvement of Naomi Watts, Kerry Washington and especially Annette Benning thrilling.

The few criticisms levelled at the film were toward some pacing and credibility issues in the last act, but otherwise praised it for not »

Killer Revealed in Wes Craven’s ‘My Soul to Take’

22 December 2009 3:31 AM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

From his creation of the iconic villain, Freddy Krueger, to his reinvention of the slasher genre with Scream, Wes Craven is routinely recognized as a master among horror aficionados. Despite his significant stature in the horror world, however, Craven hasn’t written a film since 1994’s New Nightmare. Luckily, that will all change in 2010 with the premiere of Wes Craven’s newest film, My Soul to Take.

In typical Craven style, My Soul to Take involves a serial killer, the possibility of the supernatural, and presumably, a healthy amount of gore. Check below for the full synopsis of My Soul to Take courtesy of /Film.

In the sleepy town of Riverton, legend tells of a serial killer who swore he would return to murder the seven children born the night he died. Now, 16 years later, people are disappearing again. Has the psychopath been reincarnated as one of the seven teens, »

A Look at Wes Craven's New Villain in My Soul To Take

21 December 2009 9:43 AM, PST | iconsoffright.com | See recent Icons of Fright news »

Wes Craven has created iconic killers the likes of Freddy Krueger and the Ghost Face Killa.  Has he added a new face to the pantheon?

Empire has posted a picture of the villain from Craven's new film, My Soul To Take, from stuntman Manny Siverio's Myspace page (wow.  People still use Myspace?).  Here he is:

Horror movies are only as good as the monsters they present.  So is this guy going to become an icon that people are referencing in 25 years?  We'll have to wait a quarter century and see.

Wes Craven's New Villain Revealed

20 December 2009 10:00 PM, PST | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

With all the recent talk about Scream 4, Wes Craven's actual current project, the just completed My Soul to Take (which started life as 25/8) has been a bit forgotten. But thanks to stuntman Manny Siverio's MySpace page, we now know what to expect from the next killer in the Craven pantheon.Frankly, he looks a bit like Rob Zombie's Hellbilly persona, which means he also looks kinda like the hobo Michael Myers from Halloween 2. Maybe it's postmodern. This is Craven after all, directing his first self-written original screenplay since 1994's New Nightmare.Hellbilly (he's not yet been officially named, to the extent that we're not sure who the actor is - is it stuntman Christopher Place, cast as "Ripper"?) is a serial killer, who may or may not still be alive after his reign of terror ended. Sixteen years on, he's back to terminate the seven »

Wes Craven’s New Killer Revealed

20 December 2009 7:00 PM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

Wes Craven's next thriller, and the first that he's written himself since New Nightmare, has settled on the title My Soul to Take. I first heard of it by the name of Bug, then it was 25/8 - as in 24/7 but one louder. After the break, there's a picture of the film's evil killer and, apparently, this image is something of a spoiler. Click on at your own peril. Here's the official synopsis for the film, which also seems to be giving an awful lot away: In the sleepy town of Riverton, legend tells of a serial killer who swore he would return to murder the seven children born the night he died. Now, 16 years later, people are disappearing again. Has the psychopath been reincarnated as one of the seven teens, or did he survive the night he was left for dead? B-d reader Joey M. pointed us over to New York stuntman Manny Siverio's MySpace page where he posted a spoilerific image from behind-the-scenes of Wes Craven's My Soul To Take (formerly 25/8) that features your first look at the killer. Those following Craven on Twitter were treated to updates leading up to the completion of the film, which Rogue will hopefully release in 2010. As legend has it, a notorious serial slayer will return to the sleepy community of Riverdale to finish off the seven children born on the night he purportedly died. But is the slayer really dead, or is he still at large? Or has the mysterious evil personality that once impelled his bloody spree entered the body of an unwary teen, who will now be compelled to do his evil bidding? Max Theirot, Denzel Whitaker, Shareeka Epps, Emily Meade star. »

Wes Craven's "25/8" Gets a New Title

20 October 2009 3:57 PM, PDT | www.ohmygore.com/ | See recent OhMyGore news »

When Wes Craven's latest fright flick arrives in theaters in 2010, it won't be called "25/8", a moniker it has held since the director began production. Instead, it is now entitled "My Soul To Take". Craven broke the news via his Twitter account this morning. ShockTillYouDrop.com says that while the title was once apropos for the film, the term "25/8" is no longer used in the story so it wouldn't really make sense to call it that. Craven adds "25/8" has always been a working title. Max Thierot, Denzel Whitaker and Shareeka Epps star in what is Craven's first film that he has written and directed since "New Nightmare" in the '90s. Thierot plays "Bug," a young man who is possibly being terrorized by his serial killer father sixteen years after his supposed death. »
