'Avatar' Aliens Need A 'Blue' Soundtrack, With Jay-z And The White Stripes

Even though James Cameron's "Avatar" — which finally opens today at theaters nationwide — has a killer lead cast in Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver and Giovanni Ribisi, the real stars of the film are the computer-generated alien race known as the Na'vi. They're a stunning feat of technological advancement, fully realized and incredibly animated.

Also: They're really, really blue. So blue that we've had Eiffel 65's "Blue" stuck in our heads for most of the lead-up to the film's release. Considering that is unacceptable in most cultures, we decided to dig deep into the MTV archives to find out what the best "Blue" songs were.

As it turned out, there are some absolute gems. Who could forget Debbie Gibson's "Out of the Blue" or the White Stripes "Blue Orchid?" We treated ourselves to Brand New Sin's "Black and Blue" as well as Galaxie 500's "Blue Thunder." There »

Bookstore Baksheesh: The Real Estate Deals That Sell Books

30 November 2009 12:30 PM, PST | Fast Company | See recent Fast Company news »

The closer a table is to the front of the bookstore, the more expensive the real estate--and each book on each table costs publishers anywhere from $3,000 to $30,000, and even up to $50,000 depending on placement. [Viral Loop Chronicles Part 6]

Step into any Barnes & Noble and the first thing you see are tables covered in books. 'Tis the season, so there's the "Happy Holidays" table, with its quirky array of titles--Cornell West's new memoir, Ken Auletta's Googled, Alexandra Horowitz's Inside of a Dog: What Dogs See, Smell, and Know, a biography of Thelonious Monk--authors and subjects with seemingly little if anything in common. The "Gift Books" table (20% off) is stacked with painstakingly crafted art books--one with gorgeous photos of the Vatican flanked by the Marvel Comics Encyclopedia and a history of Lego, the snappable children's toy. There's "Children's Books," "History," "Biographies," "New Arrivals," and "New in Paperback." Off to the right, Dean Koontz warrants his own narrow shelf. »

Courtney Love Reveals Britney Spears' Dark Past

25 November 2009 11:54 PM, PST | Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news »

Out of the blue, Courtney Love posted a bizarre truth about Britney Spears on her Facebook. The widow of Kurt Cobain claimed that Britney was molested by her own father Jamie while she was a child struggling to be a pop star.

"Britney's dad molested her," Courtney wrote in the message filled with typo errors and misspelling. "Imagine - the father that molested you owning you for slavery while you're forced to sing songs picked for their sexual content - every night, insane, right? I have it on first-hand authority. And fight as hard as she is, she still didn't pull that card. It's a pride thing I can relate to."

She added the part where she said she is ready to face legal matters as the consequences of her statement. "They want to play dirty? let's go! I'm So not afraid of the little trolls who hit this...who are called lawyers. »

Free Flick Fridays:[p]Out of the Blue

Out of the Blue: A Film About Life and Football Director: Michael Hoffman (2007) We know it's called Free Flick Fridays, so we're a day early, but the 2009 college football season starts today, and we wanted to paint our faces. We've got a soft spot for football movies. And Cinderella stories about underdogs triumphing. Yes, those two usually go together (We are Marshall, Remember the Titans, Rudy, etc.), and today's rec is no exception. It is, though, a bit of a novelty in that Out of the Blue is a documentary - this story doesn't need the poetic license a narrative film can offer. Instead, director Michael Hoffman introduces us to the actual young men - and their coaches - who made the impossible possible on an unlikely blue field. The 2006 Boise State Broncos football team had a lot of potential, but no one dreamed they would turn that potential into a reality with such fervor, »
