An amusing end to the third series.
Sleepin_Dragon27 September 2023
Foggy concludes that the trio are unfit after all three are breathless during their morning exercise, he recommends some physical activity.

It's a good end to the strong third series, Foggy has made a really big impact, I always thought he was a much better fit than Blamire, his eccentricity and goofiness were so funny, Wilde played the part in such a sympathetic way, he definitely provided some humour here.

Favourite scene has to be the moment in Ivy's cafe, where Sid and Ivy clash so wonderfully.

What a shame that this was the final episode for Me Wainwright and Miss Moody, the sexual tension and red blooded frustrations were very funny, I always thought the show started off with a somewhat more adult tone, which softened as time went on, when Series four started it had all but lost that adult tone, from there on in, it was very gentle.

Good end to series three.

7/10.

What IS in Compo's matchbox?
keysam-0261018 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
First sighting of the infamous matchbox in this one. As with the briefcase in Pulp Fiction, we never find out what's in it, but it causes more screaming than the movie mystery!

New librarian Miss Moody is the lucky recipient of first look, Nora the second. Both are appalled. Compo is thrilled, like a naughty 12 year old.

This is the last appearance of the librarian Mr Wainwright, indeed of the library, for some time. As usual he has designs on his female colleague, but unlike the previous one it's clear from the dialogue that Miss Moody is actually the intellectual heavyweight in this duo.

The main thrust of the episode is Foggy's attempt to get the three of them fit again. He seems to be pushing to one side the fact that they're all over sixty! At least he starts with isometrics - which gets them kicked out of the library!

An unsuccessful stab at running brings them to the cafe, which is looking particularly grubby somehow. Nora has taken a job there, to free up Sid for going out in the chip van. This can only end well...

By the end of the episode they're on horseback, interfering with a cricket game - not to be advised in Yorkshire.

And that's the end of series 3. Only a decade or so to go!

Keeping fit
Prismark1010 July 2016
Foggy decides that the trio needs to get fit and isometrics is the way to go. Pushing against an immovable object.

The episode contains some lush scenery as our trio meander down the countryside and through a brook, usually trying to avoid Foggy's crackpot keep fit ideas which results in them getting chucked out of the library as they damage the reading table.

This was the last time we saw Blake Butler's lusty lefty librarian Wainwright. The library was deemed to be surplus to requirements as there was no space for a place where people tell you to keep quiet.

However I though Wainwright was a great character and a loss to the show. Some of his randiness and flirting with his assistant was kind of taken over a decade later by Howard and Marina but without the left wing politics.

This episode marked the first occasion where we saw Compo's matchbox. We never found out what was in it that made women scream. I guess it was Captain Webb showing his full manhood.
