Will Smith may have fallen in love with Stockard Channing on the set of 1993’s Six Degrees of Separation, but Channing only felt “motherly” to the rising star, who was 23 and a newly married, first-time father at the time.
Channing — who earned an Oscar nomination playing a New York socialite who connects with a young con artist played by Smith in the film — opened up about working with the rising star in a new episode of The Hollywood Reporter‘s It Happened in Hollywood podcast.
“He made a lot [of money] from his music, or even Fresh Prince [of Bel-Air],” Channing said. “Because I remember we talked about it.” Despite his massive success in music and TV at a young age, “there was no big shot stuff at all” about Smith, she said.
“He had a real survival instinct in him,” Channing added, “which was completely perfect for the part. [There was a] genuine charm and a lovely sweetness about him.

The industry has been blessed with innumerable big names over the years. It’ll be difficult to count the number of gems Hollywood has produced, with each big name having to his credit a crazy fandom. But amongst the galaxy of big names, there is one which stands out. There are many who have a star of their name on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. But there’s only one who has inspired the game, Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon.
Kevin Bacon was making a name for himself
Kevin Bacon had already carved out a name for himself in the 90s
It’s the 1990s. The decade might be one of the most illustrious decades in the history of Hollywood, witnessing the release of all-time favorites like Forrest Gump, The Shawshank Redemption, Goodwill Hunting, and Schindler’s List amongst many other films. And Kevin Bacon was emerging as one of the promising stars in the industry.

Kevin Bacon may have taken a paddle to the ass in Animal House and an arrow through the throat in Friday the 13th but he gained his first true fame with 1984’s Footloose. From there, with movies like Flatliners, A Few Good Men and, perhaps most importantly, JFK, it seemed like Kevin Bacon had worked with just about every major name in Hollywood. Thus, the greatest movie challenge of all time was born: Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon.
But, as he explained on a recent episode of Podcrushed (via Entertainment Weekly), Kevin Bacon initially thought the Six Degrees game was making fun of him. “I thought that, and this is my own acting insecurity — impostor syndrome — I thought that the joke of it was that the great actors could be connected to a loser actor like me…They were saying, ‘Look, can you believe he can be connected by Meryl Streep?...

TikTok has been filled with fans romantically spinning their pets to Taylor Swift’s “August” in recent weeks. Now, Penn Badgley and Kevin Bacon have gotten in on the action, sharing their own version of the “August” TikTok trend.
In the clip, posted by Badgley, the You actor runs through a hallway where he finds Bacon and the pair dramatically twirl around (the face Bacon makes is A+ acting material). The TikTok was likely recorded at the same time Bacon appeared on Badgley’s podcast Podcrushed in an episode that debuted earlier this week.

Kevin Bacon addressed the ongoing dual Hollywood strikes today as he unveiled his new podcast Six Degrees with Kevin Bacon.
In an interview on Today show where he announced the podcast, Bacon was asked about the current status of the strikes and a response to those who would say it’s about rich actors who just want to make more money.
“In terms of rich actors, a very small percentage of our union is doing very, very well. Most of the people are living hand-to-mouth, those are the people that we are striking for,” Bacon said. “My situation is not the same as the majority of our union. When it comes to writers and actors, we are artists, so all of our membership are artists so if you do well you get to make your art. On the other side, they’re dealmakers, so if they do well, they get to make a deal.

Roar Social, a platform at the crossroads of social media and philanthropy, launches its app today in beta after three years of development and with the industry in turmoil. Tweets are out. Roars are coming.
This is another video-sharing app but, layered on top, it’s a tool hoping to nudge Gen Z and young Millennials (16-36 core) to assert their values and channel viral content and engagement to a larger social purpose.
Specifically: users signing up pick one of a dozen “hero” causes from climate change to mental health to animal rights. Each of their posts is tagged with the matching icon, meaning all videos on the site — original content as well as repurposed work from TikTok, YouTube and Facebook Reels welcome — are attached to a cause. There’s no ‘like’ option. Instead, tapping a small cartoon pig automatically donates a penny to the cause through the platform’s proprietary Roar Giving Wallet technology.

As hundreds of black-shirted SAG-AFTRA performers joined Writers Guild of America members outside Netflix’s headquarters for the first day of a historic Hollywood labor double strike, the first in more than six decades, actor and professional DJ Evan Shafran had the volume pumped along Van Ness Ave. He’d queued up his remix of Hall & Oates’ “I Can’t Go for That (No Can Do),” its apropos chorus underscored by a clip he’d sampled from a breaking TV news report about the strike going into effect after the union couldn’t agree to a new contract with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers. As he periodically upheld one of his amplifiers, like John Cusack in “Say Anything,” toward the streaming giant’s office across the street, marchers urge him on: “You’re killing it, dude.”

The following post contains spoilers for "The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special."
If James Gunn called you and asked you to be a major plot point in a project he was doing, your answer would be yes. How could it not be? Gunn makes great -- and, more importantly, fun — movies. Case in point: "The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special," which was released on Disney+ just in time for the 2022 holidays. In the special presentation, the Guardians have taken over their new home base, Knowhere. Christmas is on the way, and the gang is looking for a good present for Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord (Chris Pratt). The guy has had a rough time of it since he lost his love Gamora (Zoe Saldaña) and found out that another version of her from an earlier timeline doesn't feel the same way about him.

Exclusive: NCIS: Los Angeles alum Barrett Foa has been tapped for a recurring role opposite Uzo Aduba in Netflix’s Shondaland murder-mystery drama The Residence, from writer Paul William Davies.
Using Kate Andersen Brower’s book The Residence: Inside the Private World of the White House as a jumping off point, the eight-episode series is described as “a screwball whodunnit set in the upstairs, downstairs, and back stairs of the White House, among the eclectic staff of the world’s most famous mansion.” Its premise: 132 rooms. 157 suspects. One dead body. One wildly eccentric detective (Aduba). One disastrous State Dinner.
Foa will play Elliot Morgan, “the first gentleman” of the White House. He knows nothing about the social culture of Washington or the expectations of his role in the White House.
Cast also includes Randall Park, Andre Braugher, Susan Kelechi Watson, Ken Marino, Jason Lee, Bronson Pinchot, Isiah Whitlock Jr., Edwina Findley,...

On Nov. 8, Norman Lloyd will celebrate his 106th birthday, which is just one more accomplishment for a man whose nearly-100-year career is filled with amazing milestones. Lloyd worked as an actor, director and/or producer in theater, the early days of radio, film and TV. He wasn’t a household name, but he has always been well known and respected within the industry — not only for his work, but for the people he worked with. That list includes Alfred Hitchcock, Orson Welles, Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton, Elia Kazan, Jean Renoir, Robin Williams, Martin Scorsese, Denzel Washington, Mark Harmon, Cameron Diaz, Judd Apatow and Amy Schumer.
As his contemporary Karl Malden summed up in 2007, “He is the history of our industry.”

Chicago – The year 2016 was a dangerous one to be a famous person. In the past twelve months, one dozen of my former photo subjects passed away, celebrities who at one time or another famously posed for my lens. However, on a positive note, at least photos are forever. Or to quote the immortal words of Pee Wee Herman – “Why don’t you take a picture, it will last longer!”
The ranking of the portraits are based on a combination of the star power wattage of the subjects, the artistic results and the difficulty of landing the quarry…for those budding smart-phone-celebrity-stalkers who may wish to play along at home. So without further adieu, I present my top 20 celebrity portraits of 2016.
