This was a much treasured show from my childhood. I don't think I ever saw this very first episode though. Revisiting it now is a massive nostalgia trip that is making me smile like a giddy simpleton.
This initial episode does a pretty solid job at Introducing our Planeteers with distinct personalities and motifs. We can see the seeds being Planted that will define their Interpersonal Relationships in Episodes to come. Also nice to see the background of Gaia & Hope island (shrug).
I find it amusing that they copped out and called for Captain Planet's help so Quickly.
I think I'm definitely attracted to Wheeler, which is a bit perverse honestly.
The first few seconds show how over the top this show is: logging a forest to get oil from a wildlife preserve! Talk about a moustache twirling villain stereotype- in this case a giant fat capitalist hog.
It's really fun to watch in a cheesy and satirical way. The show never made me a passionate crusader for saving the environment; it's pretty misguided.
