Remember this episode (named "The Rivalry Revival") well as it completes the second series of Pokémon anime, certainly seems better compared to the last episode of the first series (Friends to the End) with Ash recovers from his sore loser mood after failure in Indigo League with a disobedient pokémon of his. And that episode of the Indigo League with full anime theme song by Jason Paige. This is also the last time of Pikachu Jukebox before using the Pokémon Karaoke-mon.
As previous episode brought new surprises like return of Brock and still no straight answer over his reaction of many keep mentioning former lady professor he left.
This episode starts off well with battle Ash finally has with his rival Gary, who we see has got an Eevee. Obviously, Gary thinks one step ahead of Ash and unsurprisingly wins the match. Even Ash swore he'll have a rematch against Gary soon, like the "Whatever" gesture Gary made as he leaves.
As for the GS Ball I can't recall much about it even as Oak gives it to Ash to give it to Kurt for inspection.
Speaking of Brock earlier, he rejoins Ash and Misty in Johto league thing while Tracey decides to stay as Professor Oak's assistant - I often wondered was Tracey looking for a job and what he used to do living and afford to travel (Pokémon watchers hardly get paid, and as Oak's assistant get paid for that) before meeting Ash and Misty. I wasn't too saddened by them leaving Tracey.
Some laughs and genius moment like Meowth saying "look sharp" - James looking at his claw when Meowth actually pointing at Gary who walks pass ignoring them. And Jessie (as lady reporter disguise) saying, in front of Brock, they're broadcasting live L-I-V-E (Ivy). When Tracey using Scyther on Team Rocket to free Pikachu thought it was James was gonna get slashed.
