A good ending to five intriguing years of procedural Cornish Plod adventures

Wycliffe learns who his friends are. Lucy is far more tolerant of Angus (father of her child) than I would have been.

Attempted smear campaign is guessed and countered - Lucy and "the Boss" work together to tempt the "baddie" out into plain view.

This was where the series finally ended, after 37 interesting episodes set against the (often wet) Cornish landscape where "South West Constabulary" ply their trade.

Re-broadcast in early 2021 and - apart from the 1990s vehicles plus NO-ONE wearing gloves at a crime scene - an interesting insight into policing 25 years ago.

Fittine End

This was a snappy ending to this series. Wycliff is an admirable, lacking a lot of personality, but dedicated to the job. This involves a final frame that works to a T. I almost wish there had been one more year. The writing is good and makes good points.

Four seasons good; this ends the other one

I bumped this episode up to a 7 only because it ended the series with a note of closure. Season 5 has been tainted with an overdose of melodrama not present in the previous years. Although the finale was more exciting and suspenseful than the previous five offerings, the logic behind its wrap-up requires suspending an unreasonable amount of disbelief. Poorly written final chapter to what had been a solid procedural.

Side note - Kudos to Tim Wylton for making the medical examiner a bigger-than-usual asset throughout the series. He brought wit and personality to the otherwise dry assemblages at crime scenes and the morgue.

Not the best end to a good series

Warning: Spoilers
I can't get over how many plot holes and errors were in this episode. There is an accusation of a secret bank account with large deposits supposedly made in cash - and no one thinks to see if anyone at the bank could possibly identify the depositor. Wycliffe is found unconscious with an obvious wound on the back of his head but his extremely annoying superior can't consider that he could possibly have been the victim. Lucy's phone goes unanswered but she is the only officer that could be called. No mention of gun fire residue testing, no gloves worn when at crime scenes. I wish there had been another season and that the series didn't end on such a low note.
