Absolutely love Buster and Babs as characters, always have. Their comic timing is so witty and zany when the material is particularly great and they are very compelling and enormously fun characters, with chemistry that never fails to sparkle. While anything involving the Wild West setting is fun, it has been portrayed many times in animation so there was the danger of "High Toon" (no surprise what classic Western title that's riffed from) being very stale and repetitive.

"High Toon" was mostly quite entertaining and is hardly a disgrace to 'Tiny Toon Adventures'. Those that also love Buster and Babs will not have their minds changed and the Wild West setting is fun and amiable enough. There have though been funnier and fresher uses of it in animation, such as 'Dripalong Daffy' and the 'The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh' episode "Paw and Order" to name a couple of examples thought of at the top of my head.

There is a lot to like about "High Toon". The animation is vibrantly coloured and beautifully rich in detail, not just the backgrounds but also the expressions and reactions of the characters which are wonderfully loony. The music is dynamic and characterful as always and the theme song has always brought a smile to my face. Something that was the case when a child and still is now.

Enough of the writing is witty and affectionate and there is a liveliness much of the time, though it would have been nice if that was more consistent. Buster and Babs, Babs' personality particularly shines, are both hugely entertaining and easy to get behind, while the coyote bandits are fun enough if somewhat predictable (as they are pretty archetypal) conflict. The voice acting is superb.

On the other hand, the material could have done with being sharper and fresher, due to it being quite familiar territory and with not an awful lot of variation it is on the predictable and at times bland side. The extra wackiness is missing.

Also thought that the energy could have been more consistent, it did lag a little later on when things ran out of steam a bit, evident when things for my tastes ended a little too neatly.

Summing up, not great but fun enough. 7/10
