Jeff Conaway, who plays "Bobby," is the star of this episode. The ever-inspired cabbie who is an actor-wannabe never seems to get a major role but keeps trying.
One day he meets "Steve," a new guy in town walks into the garage and tells everyone he wants to be an actor. Alex introduces him to Bobby and before you know it, Steve has an off-Broadway role of "Romeo" while poor Bobby is still doing commercials. His latest one here is for suntan oil and half of his face is dark and half light, leading to many derisive comments, of course, by the mean-spirited "Louie De Palma" (Danny DeVito).
Late in the show, Bobby gives a very serious little speech to Louie and it's excellent. Even the wise-guy Louie paid attention. Sometimes Taxi got serious on a few things and, mixed with the great comedy, was very effective in getting a point across, or in pointing out the human side of the main characters.
Kudos to Conaway for a nice performance.
