There Is No Stopping Latka......Or Is There?
ccthemovieman-114 May 2010
"Latka" (Andy Kaufman) gets a radio station that plays his own language! One day, while listening to it at the taxi headquarters, he hears there is revolution in his home country! He's all upset; what can he do? Within the hour, a fellow countryman - yes, another weird guy - "Baschi" (Larry Baker) - comes looking for Latka. He has heard the news and wants both of them to go home and fight in the revolution.

Latka's taxi cab pals don't want him to leave, but they can't stop him, either. (It also turns out Latka has a "General" ranking in his country - wow, how sad must their military be!!!) Anyway, a farewell party is thrown for Latka, with a surprise. (Yeah, you know Latka's not going to leave the show this early in Taxi's TV sit-com stint, but how will this happen?)

Along the way, "Jim" (Christopher Lloyd) as always, has some very funny lines.

Warning: Spoilers
The episode starts off with a scene that is vaguely related to the main story line. Latka is in front of a taxi listening to a hand-held portable radio, it is a station that broadcasts news in his native language for a couple of hours each day. He tells everyone a new indoor pole vault record of 12 feet has been set. When Tony mentions that isn't particularly high, Latka informs them, "The national arena only has a 10 foot ceiling!" Tony is impressed.

The main story starts when Latka gets a news bulletin that the Revolutionaries are starting to fight for the freedom of their country. It turns out Latka is a General, and plans to go join the fight.

Lenny Baker as his countryman Baschi shows up looking for him, they sing their national anthem together. Then there is a going away party for Latka at Mario's. When Baschi shows up with about a dozen other soldiers, and is asked to draw a diagram of their country, showing where they will be, Latka realizes that the dozen are the ONLY Revolutionaries, against all the government troops. Latka's reply, "You can kiss my Yaktibah, I'm going to watch the Late Show."
