Psychic terror
coltras354 September 2022
A renowned psychic is teamed up with Hooker to find the whereabouts of a kidnapped young girl, using visions of the girl's whereabouts that the woman keeps seeing; but even before the pair have met, the she keeps having a recurring dream about Hooker's death. Hooker has little belief in the woman's psychic abilities and how they can help locate the young girl, and is even more sceptical about her visions of his fate; but the more the pair work together, the more the woman's visions become realised - and the closer Hooker's predicted fate looms to come true...

Shades of 'Dirty Harry', with the kidnapping/ransom demand and sending Hooker chasing from phone booth to phone booth, occurs in the last fifteen minutes. Bruce Glover (Diamonds are forever) plays a kidnapper who gets Hooker to remove his wire. But hooker smartly rigs a second one. Before all this, Hooker investigates with a psychic ( Shatner's then real life wife) and is sceptical. I like the way the psychic's prediction isn't too detailed, it's subtle. It's a good episode and quite suspenseful.

TJ Hooker, Dirty Harry style
Chase_Witherspoon27 October 2012
Action-packed episode is the closest knock-off of "Dirty Harry" of the series (the Hooker character often compared with Dirty Harry Callahan), with the abduction scene in which Callahan (here Shatner) is run all over San Fransisco by Scorpio, re-created here in LA with villain John Davis Chandler luring his prey to a cemetery where he's holding a nine year old girl for ransom. Mrs Shatner Marcy Lafferty is again on hand, this time as a clairvoyant with whom Shatner partners, while the usual sidekicks James Darren and Heather Locklear have very minor roles in support.

There's a couple of good car chases and stunts as Mr and Mrs Shatner jump in and out of blazing wrecks, while crazy-eyed Chandler is a particularly nasty villain. Also featuring is veteran tough guy Bruce Glover as a heavy and Buck Taylor playing the abducted girl's father, forced to try an raise $30k for her safe release. David Hooks is another familiar face, the white knight to whom Shatner appeals for financial assistance. Nothing remarkable, but definitely watchable episode with a capable cast and plenty of exteriors.
