This isn't one of my favorite episodes but it's a solid all the same. It's one that deals with enviormental issues but I like that I don't see that plot line often anymore. Personally I think it's an important issue because if the enviorment goes down the tube we go with it, that's fact that's science.
Some would say it's a wild idea that Bayside would suddenly strike oil which is true, but hey it's a TV show I rolled with it; though I'll admit a bit of this plot line is uncannily similar with the "What Shot Mr.Burns Part 1" episode of "The Simpsons" where Springfield Elementry also stuck oil.
We see Jesse along with Kelly are against the business as they see a problem, which of course Jesse is right. However the rest of the gang see an opportunity, which to me is understandable I personally would be in same place as Zack and the rest, just caught up in their ambitions and dreams on making the school experience even better, who would want to pass that up.
But unfortunately dreams and reality are two different things when disaster strikes. The oil has not just messed up some of the football field but it also when down straight into the Bayside pond. Zack of course tries to save that cute duck Becky that we seen in the beginning of the episode but it's too late which is sad. At that moment he realizes his dreams have became a nightmare, but also realizes the gravity of the situation that this disaster could be the beginning. And Zack is right about that, from another accident occurring but also oil fumes that could leak out or even an oil fire which are hard to put out.
I kinda like in that meeting scene what Mr.Belthing said about progress and when he brings up the space program. Yeah that is true, but the thing about the space program was those were acceptable risks each of the men that were involved knew them. With Bayside it's different because no one works for the oil company which means none have accepted any risks which makes their lives endangered.
And of course the highlight was the counter presentation that Zack and the rest give about the New Bayside, showing everyone what their about to lose and that Bayside High is in for a grim future.
To me the moral is real to appreciate what you already have because that is all you really need. Sometimes you just need to take a step back to see greatness in front of you.
