Obviously, Season 6, the final one, has lapsed into the "anything goes realm." Let's see what happens. Joel is doing a pill study for Johns Hopkins where he was rejected for medical school. Ed screws the whole thing up. The pills have the affect of jazzing people up like they are on amphetamines, even those with the placebos. Shelly meets the devil who tries to get her to burn Holling's old robe. Chris buys a ventriloquist's dummy and the thing becomes a local celebrity. People ignore Chris and listen to the dummy. That about says it all. There is little charm left in the show at this point but I guess most shows, even the best (and this is about as good as it gets) have to come to an end.
