"my only interest is in your utter corruption." such a classy line. the one cgi moment which bothered me lay right at the beginning, with an unseen craft flying towards a fake looking island over an impossibly golden sea, that does look a bit rough. the rest of what we are shown is more impressive. there is a touch of the matrix with green text whizzing up and down screens, which looks cool. the computer displays and their use is much more sophisticated in this episode, it all looks convincing and futuristic, as it should be. the use of sets is very nice throughout, highly futuristic with stylish use of colour. the concept of the villain was cool, and he was really hard to beat, nearly stopping the new mutants in their tracks. the heroes should always come this close to defeat, it makes for more thrilling stories. the villain posed a potentially widespread threat, the ambition of the story was up on previous episodes. the use of cgi in general for fx such as the new mutants jet seemed to be slicker than i thought it might be. tom mccamus and john shea make for very credible adversaries and morally distinct from one another.eckhart gets to show some chilling villainy in the torture of one of his henchman which reminded me of an infamous scene from a clockwork orange. the ending has many sinister implications, the use of the villain's lab was good and the sets looked very appealing. tonight's killer martial arts scene: a daring rescue involving a bungee rope which looked so amazing i am glad that i saw it. i suspect that this will consistently become the highlight of very episode. i wonder what we will be treated to tomorrow. i can't wait.
