Jim Dial, the great American trash novelist.

Warning: Spoilers
Behind every serious news anchor is a John Grisham wannabe, but in Jim's case, it's closer to Danielle Steel. He comes to a horrific conclusion when the novel he's been writing has its heroin, Monique, secretly based on Murphy, making him question his feelings for her. Jim's beautiful wife Doris (the exquisite Janet Carroll) realizes the truth and in a girl to girl talk with Murphy reveals her feelings. But Murphy, who loves Jim like an older brother, and in their years of working together, has come to admire him greatly even if she has on rare occasion even had her own misgivings of her feelings towards him. Murphy decides that she has to fix the situation so these misunderstandings will come to an end, and this leads to some very funny twists. When Murphy tells Doris all of the little qualities of Jim that she's noticed over the years, it's a touching moment between two women that in less skillful hands would have resulted in some hair pulling. The fact that these feelings occur but are dealt with nobly makes this classy and sweet. Then of course there's the obligatory wacky secretary, a pyromaniac who Murphy doesn't even flinch at when she sees her with a lit match.
